@Brew Nice to hear he's ok, although he seems to be doing well despite the NHS bureaucracy, rather than because of it.

Just looked on Google and 113 Sneinton Boulevard is next door to an old Marsdens shop, wonder if our Ben did a stint there?
That Marsdens..... https://maps.app.goo.gl/cfLnPVHt3q65ZsQT9 ....has been mentioned here before in the other thread.
Ben gets everywhere.

I'd forgotten I ever found that postcard - even though it's only 2 years ago. Nice to see a proper Nottstalgia subject reappear. And further proof of the old theory that everyone on Nottstalgia is ultimately connected to everyone else.

...and also had a Clifton connection ?

I've been reminded of this on another forum where it was mentioned. 'Listen with Mother' in the early 60s; this is the music which played out the programme.

There was always a rush in our house to turn the radio off as soon as we heard this
I could never understand what he was saying/shouting. I thought it was just a random noise. It was only many years later that I discovered it was 'Wakey Wakey'.

I was made redundant twice during my working life. Neither occasion was unexpected, but both times it turned out to be a blessing in disguise, and before long I was in a better position than I was before it happened.

Incredibly, it was because the screen-wash froze.

I don't think Fox & Grapes was ever officially known as 'Pretty Windows'; that was just a nickname, although it was probably better known than its official name.
It also had a makeover a couple of years ago and now looks quite civilised. https://maps.app.goo.gl/2Z2FqoWv1HvsyxxZ8

I did O Level Latin and I've found it more useful in later life than I might've expected.
It has often helped me to a very basic understanding of the written version of many European languages, because a lot of them have Latin origins and there are similarities in many words.

Just to play devil’s advocate…… Aren't all languages evolving? For example, we don’t still speak or write in the same manner that Shakespeare or (even worse) Chaucer used.
Exactly. Although I did A-Level English I never understood Shakespeare - in any sense of the word. Either reading or listening to his material, I find it difficult to understand; both in his sentence construction and use of words.
It's easier to read his plays because you can keep staring at a particular passage to try and make sense of it; but when they're performed on stage or on film it could almost be a foreign language.

As an example, if you use Google to search 'Farrands grocer', one of the results will link you to Nottstalgia and Ben's favourite thread. And that wouldn't have happened a few days ago.
So now all his previous lady friends will be coming back.

For the last couple of years, Nottstalgia has been slowly drifting along going nowhere, often with the same 10-12 people talking to each other about nothing in particular. Contrast that with a few years earlier, when there were many more people logging in, browsing and contributing to a variety of topics.
A major reason for the drop in activity is that Google wasn’t looking at Nottstalgia when producing search results.
For example, if someone - anywhere in the world - searched ‘Fairham Comprehensive Nottingham’ or ‘Bulwell Nottingham’ using Google, the results would not include any links to Nottstalgia, because Google simply ignored it. So very few ‘new’ people were finding Nottstalgia and making any contribution.
Other Search Engines (such as Bing or Yahoo or DDG) do include Nottstalgia in their results, but since Google accounts for around 85% of all internet searches, that’s a big loss.
Various technical changes have been made, and Google is now looking at Nottstalgia again, so hopefully a lot more new people will start finding the site and posting on it.

I am quite happy with new tech, however, when it reduces human interaction, it also reduces humanity.
I completely agree with that; automatic switchboards being a good example of loss of human contact.
But tech can also greatly increase human interaction. I've lost track of the number of people I've met - or re-established contact with - thanks to the internet.

If the technological future hadn't happened, this forum wouldn't exist for people to say technology is a bad thing.

It was surprising last year to see the McDonald's at the bottom of Exchange Walk had closed down.
It's presumably a result of the total lack of shops and passing trade in that area.
-
Regardless of the food, I just don't like McDonalds for the plastic interiors and look of the place.
And I'd love to know who thinks that Snot Green is a good choice of corporate colour for the exterior of their buildings.

It's probably the most sickly, revolting colour anywhere in the city centre.

I wasn't quite old enough to consider making such a move in the early/mid-70s, but in later years I sometimes wondered if I would've taken a chance had I been born a few years earlier.
-
That's something which I increasingly find as well. People you know are getting more frail and fragile. Even if you think you're still relatively active and mobile, other people seem to be getting older and slower.
-
And if you look at present-day maps, the three names have (just) been preserved along current stretches of the surviving road.

If you scroll down to Bridlesmith Gate, the answer appears to be Yes.

Among his achievements is being married 5 times.

Give us a clue......for those who don't know (which is probably quite a few) where was Mr Millers nightclub ?
I may have just answered my own question. It seems to have been on Bridlesmith Gate and was the same place as The Hippo/Coco Tang/ and various others.

Trent Bridge and the floods on the news this morning. Will another notch be chiselled on the wall?
The Trent here in our Staffs village is covering a few hundred acres. It will eventually all pass under Trent Bridge.
At Trent Bridge this morning, the river is higher than it was on my photo of two days ago.

This is the Shirley Abicair song.
But the song about "...swam and they swam right over the dam...." is another song, which was recorded by many different people.
