  3. Oh come on now! There must have been more than one? You do not have to play anything on that horn, but it may harm your defence if you do not play when requested any tune you later rely on in court. Anything you play will be given in evidence.
  4. I was gonna put this under the Local Nutters thread, but this guy is more of a character than a nutter. You may have seen him around the City or in Radford during the 60-70s. Mr. Williams was a rotund black gentleman, he must have been at least in his 80's when he died late 70's- early 80's. He was distictive because he wore a white pith helmet, and walked with a cane or umbrella. He had milk bottle bottom glasses. Once seen never forgotten. He lived in the Raliegh Street area of Canning Circus, and was a retired school teacher, teaching somewhere in Nottingham. I wonder which school he w

  6. This fantastic photograph taken on 16th February 1895 shows the River Trent at Wilford in Nottingham completely frozen over. The wooden pile structure in the background is the contractor's temporary bridge in readiness for the construction of the impressive Trent Viaduct. Note the wave formations in the ice.I bet even Al can't remember this far back? :D
  7. Ey'Up! :o Japanese Uniform Huh. Now would that be from that Army Surplus store on Arkwright Street? I remember me an me mate John Vincent bought two Army great coats from there. Well actually they were Womens Civil Defence Coats. What Bobby Dazzlers we looked walking through town with the the coats brushing the ground. Everybody stared at us, those were the days before Ozzy Osbourne. That would have been 1968-9, and the coats cost ten bob (50p). I think we were the first in Nottingham with those coats, as they had just come into stock. The fashion certainly caught on. :D

  10. Note that at that time, Arkwright Street was the main A52(A60) out of the city. This was the continuation of the main route which was DOWN Derby road to the City, Through Chapel Bar, Past the Market Square, Down Past C&A Listergate, Through Carrington Street, what is now the Broad Marsh Centre, and straight across past Midland Station.

  16. I on't Know about the violin case, perhaps that was the bods going to the Becket School? I undestood that the folks over the river lived in big expensive houses and consequently had to survive on Bread and Lard. We in the Meadows with more modest abodes could afford dripping for our toast!
  17. Hello Norma Welcome aboard Sorry I did not leave till late 60's. Why don't you post a list of your ex school friends in the 'where are they now' forums. That will mean their names will also appear in search engine results. in case other school friends are searching for their class. As you were at TB earlier we would be interested of your memories of the school or teacher. 21. This image shows the full extent of the eastern area of the meadows, looking north across Trent Bridge. Wilford Cresent can be seen top left, with Arkwright Street (centre) and London Road on the right. Note how the sprawling terraced houses reach right across Arkwright Street, to London Road. Bottom left of London Road, just above the end of Meadow Lane, the Alms Houses and their grounds can be seen.
  22. Don't even think about Portugal for your hols. You walk down the street with your mates, minding your own business. <_< The police whip you within an inch of your life, then arrest you for Football Hooliganism. :o What's the world coming to?
