  1. Yeh, but there is still one set down there!
  2. Yep, if you "Aim" your pc mouse at Google, the 4 Aims you will find. PS, i know this is an old question, but im just showing Mick im doing me bit!
  3. Thats what i said Mick! However as i mention, we got hold of the wrong end of the stick back then re what the actual music was/is. Wilkpedia have stated what most folk believe it to be, and bear in mind, it gives you the power to edit on there,so some misinformed individual can post wrong info! and, as weve seen before re Dale Wintons birthplace etc, t'internet isnt always right! Ask any Jamaican person of a certain age if theres a type of music called bluebeat, and, if hes knowledgeable about music, he will say no, its called Ska. There was a programme on the telly a couple of years ago,
  4. It was only a couple of years ago that i discovered there was no such style of music as Blue beat, now before you shout "yeh there is" i too was under the misconception that the type of music coming from Jamaica in the early 60's was called that, Wrong! it is actually Ska, according to at least one JA legend, it gets its name from the noise the guitar makes as the plectrum is stroked upwards over the strings. Why do/did we all think it was called Blue beat? simple, the name of one of the record labels bringing this music to our ears, and very popular at the time for that type of music was c
  5. My part time job whilst still at Claremont, was at the local Co op shop, NCS 94 store Egypt Rd New Basford, where one of the older employees (17!) was a lad called Alan Draper, who lived in Radford, came to work on a Raliegh moped, and i recall the rest of the male members of his family worked at Raliegh, where i believe he also went to. Ring any bells with Radfordians?
  6. Now youre pressing the memory button!! Jonny Moore (who i had as a guest on my Sunday night show "Strong on Sunday") introduced me to the managers of the place one night when he bought them into the studio, and later from that i started doing a regular night there....................cant remember which one though!"!! God, my memory is sh*t!................I think it was a monday, cos shortly after finishing there, i did the Porchester, where i remember turning up for the gig , to be greeted by the old bill. It turned out the manager had been redirecting cash from the till, into his own pocket
  7. Casa was the Aviary, how could i forget?
  8. Smithylass, it isnt Radio Lincs, cos thats the BBC station (well it is in as much as its Radio Lincolnshire abbreviated ) no its simply Lincs fm, and the period i was on there....? well there were 2, but i honestly cant remember exactly when, lets just say sometime between 95 and 2001/2 ish! Apart from my own weekend shows, i used to sit in mainly for Eddy Shaw, early afters, and also for Duncan on drivetime (5 till 9). Duncans voice can now be heard doing continuity on telly on the beeb channels, UKTV Gold etc.
  9. Hmmm..............Blue Boar at Hucknall in the early 80's. and obviously many during my stint at NJD, and early days of doing Radio Trents "Electric Gramaphone" names elude me though..............Festival Inn at Trowell, numerous ones in Mansfield as part of a co promotion between Trent and Mansfield brewery, one in the cattle market, again, a bunch of em in Derby as a promo thing that Ansells did, in Ilk as well, The Poplar, and a couple of others, The one at the top of the Wells rd........... The Porchester!...............theyre coming back now........TBI........... The South bank bar? cal
  10. Dont think so, i remember The Beatles We Can Work It Out being played on the jukebox loads. It was frequented by loads of rockers at the time, i was ok then as it was before the time i necame a mod, but i remember a bloke called "Slim" being there just about every time we were, wearing the rocker uniform of tapered ice blue jeans, and a black leather jacket, which could be bought from Wakefields for either 7 pounds 19 shillings and 6 pence, or 8 guineas. Mine came from the one that was on or near the corner of Castle Gate or nearby, at its junction with Wheeler gate? (Just up from C and A, on
  11. Now, i reckon hes the one im referring to!!! certainly looks like it!. Does anyone remember the Brooke Bond PG Tips Chimps coming to one of the local cinemas? might have been Lenos.................poss Futurist........? We were also mentioning the firm i did the "Get your jeans down at Machins" ads for, they also had a shop near to Lenos, remember it? PS, im being Mr Pedantic again, but these were in the 60's, not 70's.................
  12. Almost, i used to be on Lincs fm 102.2......"from the humber to the wash"....etc......also worked on other stations in the group, Trax fm in Worksop and Doncaster, and Fosseway radio in Hinkley. I just got fed up of having to drive the 100 mile return journey (nearly) on all of their stations, so i stay closer to home nowadays.
  13. Ive done a post about curry houses, but forgot to mention that in 1978 i dj'd at the Noor Jahan, being possibly the only such venue to have a disco, saying on the mic "welcome to the East Midlands first Indian disco dine" I used to set up during Saturday afternoon, very often with me mum helping! and go back at the night time, being paid in cash at first, but then, when i started to take my girlfriend, and her sis and husband (as roadies of course!) i negotiated a deal in which we had 4 meals, and a quantity of beer instead. If youve been into the Noor Jahan of late, it is as it started li
  14. Frank, i wasnt resident at The Astoria, just did the "Trent celebrity appearance" thing, i reckon it was to do with business as Barry Noble was a big spending client . I also did the music for a few fashion shows there, as well as working alongside the guy who now owns the lap dancing club above Isis, James Ekterfari, (spelt properly??) when i introduced Technotronic.....Which reminds me........add Black Orchid/ Isis to that list
  15. BIP, as i said, despite what those sites say, he is not from Nottingham, as for the other questions raised, Blue Danube Radio was out of Vienna, not Yugoslavia as mentioned.I recall Dales close firend, and a friend of mine too, Peter Tait, also had a stint there, although i may be wrong about that. As for Dale being Gay, i cant comment, although doesnt everyone know????? And as for getting Dale to post on any forum, As Dale himself used to say, "Id show my arse in the Vatican before that ever happened!"
  16. I remeber seeing a weekly thing at Lenos on a Saturday, wher a man would say "Shazam!" and the next second you saw him flying! Was that Iron Man? Actually, it was early60's.............although, as would have been reference to Batman too....................
  17. Right on both accounts Mick, i still cant remember the name of that one down and round from Hockley though! (when i played there that is). In fact the car showroom was owned at one time by a guy i knew, i even bought a car from him, what a mistake!
  18. Still lives there, whats your brother in laws name?
  19. I actually started my dj career by accident, when the guy i had asked to dj at a gig id supplied kit for, wanted a break, he suggested i take over, i did, and the rest as they say, is history, but, in that period, i joined NJD, and they sent me to loads of different venues, before i ended up at Zak and Kurts venue "The Babel" So, apart from going back to the place i auditioned at "Annabels" on Victoria St, i worked at Toffs, at The Bridgford Hotel Oscar Wildes at Holme Pierrepont. Isabellas Goldsmith St Zaks Club, Station St Madison Goldsmith St Arrabellas/ Scamps Wollaton St Theres m
  20. Mick, for whatever reason, i didnt buy any Kefs, probably because Dixons didnt stock them, not that they had the American stuff either, by then, id left and was working for a guy who imported the other stuff, inc, Fisher, which, like Marantz, was not middle Eastern at that time.. Strange coincidence that tube stuff is back in favour, in fact my current cd player, the Eastern Electric Minimax, has a valve output stage. Should have mentioned earlier, before i could afford an Amcron ( American Crown) pre amp, i had Gordon Hill, from Nottingham Hifi, on Alfreton Rd, build me one, basically to i
  21. Started my addiction to Asian food early 70's. working next door to The New Taj Mahal, on Goldsmith st, moving onto the 3 others mentioned above, as well as just about all the others in Nottingham. Anyone else have memories of them?
  22. I used to have a mate at Claremont, called Frank Locking, he spent some time being a traveller on the fair, a "gaff lad" he called it, and, during 1965, apart from hanging around the Market Square, we would frequent Churchills cafe, near the top of Mount St, anyone go there, or remember the place?
  23. The club was originally The Dungeon, ran by Mick Parker, changing into, amongst others, The Big Apple, and Eight till late. I have done a posting elsewhere, to see who frequented The Dungeon in the 60's.
