  1. If only we knew then what we know now ......... we had an old car 30+ years ago with the number plate JJ1918, might have got a few bob for it now. My husband had so many old, and I mean OLD, cars in the 60s that just went eventually to the scrap yards. If only he'd hung on to them. He even had an Austin 7 that was a bit wrecked so he decided to dump it by driving it into a bomb crater 'darn sarf' (where he lived).

  2. Nathan, so I think you must have lived one side of the 'entry' and I lived the other side, albeit several years earlier. A morbid story concerning your house, if that was the one, was that there was a spinster living there during my time next door who committed suicide by gassing herself in the house! I do remember her, my parents invited her in for a drink on a Christmas morning and ......... funny the things you remember ....... I was lying on the floor reading my Rupert Annual that Santa had just brought me!! I remember my Mum saying after the poor lady had been found dead that she was thinking about us next door and had left a window open so the gas didn't seep through to our house. I'm pretty sure that the lady had some sort of shop in the property.

  3. I used to do Meals on Wheels years ago and loved it (only stopped because we moved away from the area). The old house-bound folk loved having a visit, especially when I arrived with their lunch! I still think about one particular old lady often. She was totally blind and had been since she was young. I would knock on her door and then go to the window to watch her get off the sofa and work her way around the room to reach the door to unlock and let me in. As I walked in she would always say that her plate was in the oven. The oven was never on and the plate was always stone cold but never mind! I had to get her seated at the table and dish out her meal and tell her what she'd got for her lunch that day. One day I arrived, knocked on the door and went to look in at the window. She was laid out on the sofa and not moving. I was a bit scared to be honest. I went to her neighbour and the man had a key and went in to check on her, with me being a coward and hanging back a bit! It seems she was just having a good old nap, lol.

  4. I watched the webcam for quite a time yesterday when the update came through. The little chick was out of the nest box at that time and Mum was feeding him and not the other three. She may have already fed the others before I turned on. Little 'erbert was nice and podged by the time she flew away with the remnants of a pigeon and he was having a good attempt at getting back into the nest. You'd think Mum could have grabbed him round the neck and dragged him in.

  5. Get a dog ....... dog walkers usually acknowledge one another, except yobbos with trophy dogs! We have strange neighbours directly opposite our house. They won't even look in our direction, never mind smile. In 10 years the bloke has spoken to us twice, one time when his cat was up a tree in our garden (I think because our dog chased it up there;-) ) and the second time when he reversed out of his driveway and bumped into a car belonging to a visitor to our house. I've actually walked almost alongside each of them along the road but I may as we'll be invisible. There's nowt so queer as folk.

  6. Welcome to Nottstalgia Russell !

I live in Mapperley Park and although I've never had to drive to Keyworth in the mornings I would think it would be a fairly easy commute as you'll be going away from town rather than with the masses driving into the city. I don't think that Nottingham traffic is particularly bad and the public transport is really good but not ideal for the route you need to take.
