And I also remember particularly the Vulcan bomber being tested and flying over our house in Arnold. Every time It came over it scared the life out of me, it was such an unusual shape and so damn big and loud.

I didn't have my own car in Nottingham but I had the use of a friend's minivan for a while. When I moved away from Nottingham I had a lovely little red Mini that I drove for several years until the floor gave way, in the end it was like driving a dodgem cos it didn't have a floor!!

The only boxing match I've ever been to was to see Joe Bugner fight a Spaniard at the Ice Stadium, probably at the end of 1972. Bugner won.

I've been past the Newton Building a couple of times in the last few days Michael and each time I've seen a couple of them on the ledge above the nest. They've become rather camera shy now but they're still hanging around.

So what was it about Arnold then? That's 3 'famous' artists from there, Stacey Blake, Paul Sandby and Richard Parkes Bonington. Must admit I'd only heard of the latter one though.

Now you've told 'em that Susyshoes you'll never find a parking spot for yourself! I know that car park but only ever used it to go into the store, but it is handy for Vic Centre.

Yes Babs my wifes suit was suede too . The " kinky" boots were in the fashion at the time . We were just heading off for our honeymoon in Benedorm ......wasn't that warm in March !
Those white boots were certainly the footwear to be seen in for any fashion conscious young lady at that time. The trouble was that they were plastic and used to crack (well mine and my friends did anyway) and we were always going back to Dolcis to get them replaced. The manager of the shop was OK about it to begin with but then he decided that enough was enough and refused to change them for nothing. By that time the fashion had changed anyway!

My Great-Aunt, Connie Alvey, worked at Elastic Yarns for many years as Canteen Manageress. As she was born in 1900 I assume she would have retired around 1960. She was an excellent cook but my lasting memory of her is watching her beating cake mix with a fag in her mouth and two inches of ash hanging precariously off the end of it!

Depends how old you are fch782c, Watch With Mother started about 1954/55 I think. We didn't have a telly until 1955 but before that I listened to the wireless ......... shipping forecast and then Listen With Mother !!

Yes Banjo, if you didn't get back from your fortnight in Spain with peeling skin then folks didn't think you'd had a good time, lol. We know a fella who lives on the Gold Coast and he's had a lot of skin cancer ops. My husband works in the Caribbean quite a lot and although he definitely isn't a sun-worshipper he is not careful when out in the sun. He was at hospital the other day getting a mole checked and has to go in to have it cut out in a couple of weeks time, only cautionary though because it's not cancerous.

The first time I went to the Mediterranean, as a teenager, I ended up with blisters that looked like jellyfish on my shoulders. And I do know that I put sunscreen on, it was just that we're not used to such intense sun in the UK.
