  1. I remember the name Little Eric but that's all. The Polish Club was where I first got drunk, on Barley Wine!! Dreadful stuff, and never touched it again! Would have probably gone to the Motown Night in March but will be in Florida and hopefully meeting up with Mudgie. I had the best times down the Dungeon in 65' 66 and 67 but doubt I would recognise anyone from those days now! Have a great night.

  2. just got back from afternoon in derbyshire came back via matlock . matlock bath manic trafic lights near to station bridge at matlock road works tempoery lights tailbacks all the way back to cromford we stoped cromford mill for a drinkjust as bad all round there good weather brought everyone out matlock bath full of bikers

We were there too Babs, had a hike around Chatsworth and along the Derwent. Gorgeous day once the fog lifted but the roadworks and temporary traffic lights were a real pain. We came back another way and did the journey in half the time :-)

  3. How else would they stop by the Horse and Groom for a pint?

Just a little bit of my family history ....... The Horse and Groom was in my family for probably 50+ years. My uncle ran it very successfully for 25 yrs and before that my Great Aunt and Uncle kept it. I spent a lot of time there, happy days.

  4. LizzieM, what is a 'magpie trap?'.

Also called a Larsen Trap Michael. The trouble is you have to be aware of the legalities of using such equipment. It didn't really matter where we used to live! The reason why we wanted to control the magpies was because we kept guinea fowl that used to roost in a tree and lay eggs all over the garden and these eggs were a magnet to the magpies who of course were stealing songbird eggs at the same time. Hope you find a way of controlling your magpies!

  5. LizzieM, If you are really interested in meeting fellow Nottstalgians, we have meet-ups from time to time - and may be due one before too long. So keep your eyes open on these pages for any announcements.

I'll look forward to that!! I won't miss any announcements, I'm already obsessed with Nottstalgia and forever checking the site.

  6. That's a nice coincidence, Lizzy. You could maybe ask him if he lived on James Street in Arnold in those days as I think some/all of the band did. Us kids at the nearby school used to besiege the front door of their terraced house for autographs!

Just spoken to my friend Bill the ex Beatman and although he didn't live in Arnold he said the rest of them did, have you still got your autograph book?!!

  7. I loved it! I recall seeing a live band there one Saturday morning at the Minors. they were a local group know as The Beat Men (I think they're actually still around as 'The Fabulous Beat Men'. It was all a bit close to me, I told everyone that my sister had taken me to see The Beach Boys!

Sadly this wasn't true but my big sis did go to see Freddie and the Dreamers there!

How funny is that?!!! A good friend of mine was in The Beatmen at that time, and until recent years actually. His name is Bill Moseley, We've been friends for over 40 years. They were very successful in the early 60's, even going over to Hamburg, just like the Beatles. I remember Freddie and the Dreamers playing at the Metropole but didn't go to see them, I don't think.

  8. Has anyone mentioned The Metropole in Sherwood, now a Co-Op. I have great memories of leaping off the bus before it had even stopped, outside the cinema, to get in the queue for the Saturday morning show. The place used to be packed and we'd all sing the 'We are the Ovaltineys' song. I never did like Ovaltine though!
