  1. I recall a murder in this period in Mapperley Park. A man caught a taxi late at night and when it arrived in Mapperley Park the passenger stabbed the driver many times (77?) and ran off. I think the police suspected it was a contract killing and that the driver had run up debts. The murderer was never found. I remember the story because I sometimes walked the dog in the evening in Mapperley Park.
  2. I worked at the Stag and Pheasant pub in 1982. I remember it was run by a husband and wife and unfortunately the husband was very ill. Did the pub keep running as a pub until demolition?
  3. I worked behind the bar in Zhivago's 1984-6. "Mr Veazey to Room 2" announced over the pa system was the code for a fight in room 2. Mr John Veazey was the manager, Mr Broughton (?) the asst manager. The only other names I remember are 2 bouncers - Chip and John. Every night the DJ played Billy Idol's White Wedding. We worked until about 2:30am and then went home in a taxi. Low pay but all my colleagues were cheerful, hard working and kind.
  4. My Mum had an orange Allegro for quite a few years and then a Maestro for a while - never had a problem with either.
