  1. Saw the Who in concert 1971 - Saratoga, New York - Mylon and his Holy Smoke Band opened the show. After Mylon, the Who sounded like a high school band on a Sunday afternoon in the park. I was 15 and hitch-hiked home. Mylon rocked - the Who were just loud - and I liked about six songs.
  2. The Dave Clark Five was one of the first albums that I bought in my youth.....back then Glad All Over - Bits and Pieces - that was almost hard-rock back then - Love's Da-Capo (Neil Young edited the tapes) was progressive - Iron Butterfly was Heavy Metal.....".In The Garden Of Eden" was the original title.
  3. He worked with Alvin Lee on Alvin's "Zoom" album and was in the video as well - 1992
  4. Dear Katyjay, I of course never knew your friend, Rob237, but I'd like to add something to his memory R.I.P. Rob Pollard. September 5, 1942 - February 2012 - A friend to everyone. From Roy Harper: When An Old Cricketer Leaves The Crease. When the day is done, and the ball has spun, in the umpires pocket away, and all remains in the groundsman's pains, for the rest of the time and a day. There'll be one mad dog and his master, pushing for four with the spin. On a dusty pitch, with two pounds six, of willow wood in the sun. When an old Cricketer leaves the crease, well you never know whethe
  5. OK - did a little research. The Dancing Slipper Ballroom was aslo known as The Nottingham Jazz Club. In an article I have, in an old Midlands Newspaper - it list Alvin Dean (not Alvin Lee) a misprint I'm sure - anyone have any memory of this Alvin Dean name? Next, Ivan Jay - Ivan Jaye and Ivan Love and the Jaybirds. While in Hamburg as The Jaybirds, as the Beatles were heading home, as the Jaybirds were moving in, an article says. While there, Leo Lyons (bass) also played with Tony Sheridan. On another note, do any of you remember or know Greg Dix - drummer with "The Hoodoos" he and I have

LizzieM - I'm chomping at the bit here....tell me more about Sons of Adam......it was the first group that Chick Churchill from Ten Years After was in. Can you fill me in on the rest? Ric Lee was in the Mansfields......then of course Alvin and Leo Lyons were in the Jaycats and the Jaybirds. Looking for more photos of pre Ten Years After history. I can tell you this - Ivan Jay passed away.....I'm looking for Dave Quickmire......and I also know Gary.....I'll get back to you on that.
  7. Thanks, let my Brigitte have a look first, she's our webmaster - I'm just the flunkie/lacky here. Also, paying for a good service this time is no problem for us....when I first came to Germany I was poor - but I'm much better now - no pocket money, but free of debt. Thanks again for your help.....from the heart.
  8. This question is directed to Mick2Me - On our website we're using bravenet message board and guestbook. They have served us very well in the last 11 years. Bravenet is now putting pressure on us to up-grade - thus going from a free service, to a pay service. My question is, are you happy with your message board? As a new user, I find it easy to use, and the post come up quickly - and it gives you the option to make corrections anytime you like. Where - or who do we contact to use this same service here in Germany....we go through STRATO as our main provider - which is itself outside of German
  9. Thank You Katyjay, I like honest replies like yours. I was taking care of my grand-mother during that period, we watched 9/11 right after the first plane hit the tower, we caught the second one hit. My gram was in shock, no one had ever attacked our country, long story short, she died because of this event roughly 37 days later - she just willed herself to death....she had enough of life - she was 96. But please don't tell me she had a long life, because before 9/11 she was basically healthy - her walking was a little slow, she ate well and I'd take her out on my car to visit family and frien
  10. Thank You Stu.....I bought that album when it first came out in 1970 - a great year for music. By the way - do you remember the band - CACTUS - they opened for Ten Years After on one of their tours of America. This Saturday night, I get to see Tim Bogert and Carmine Appice again - saw them last time in Hannover, Germany at the Blues Garage when they were Vanilla Fudge. I really want to meet Jim McCarty in person this time - Tim and Carmine were in Da-Fudge and Jimmy was guitarist for Mitch Ryder and his Detroit Wheels....singer Rusty Day (RIP) was with Ted Nugent on one early album. I have
  11. Dear Jill, My sister's middle name is Jill. (just saying) When I was in grade school, our books went from "History" and changed over night to "Social Studies" - to usher in "Socialism" to the American culture. You've heard of the American Dream....it's only a dream, because you have to be asleep to see it. Dave
  12. Thank You Kindly "OLDACE" - As good as place as any to post "The Alvin Lee Tribute Concert In Paris" April 7, 2013 - A Sunday Night. Hi Mr. Booth and Mick2ME. I'll try to give you the short version. First of all, to my way of thinking, it should have focused on Alvin Lee's passing. It wasn't. Ten minutes before the show they played a recording of Ten Years After Live At Woodstock 1969 from the Soundtrack Album Followed by a few stage comments and then a moment of silence - nothing more! First act up was Tommy Emmanuel - excellent performance. Second, Edgar Winter playing Free Ride from the
  13. Hello Mr. Ford, In the golden days - or good old days back home, and well before my time, there were street cars in Albany and another one outside of Albany that ran east to west for about 30 miles. They should have kept them in operation, and ran the roads around them. I'm not exactly sure, but one of two things happened to them (they were electric by the way).....they either dug up the tracks.....but as I remember it, they just paved over them and installed the road system. Thank you for explaining the differences to me, as what was common place for you and others in England, was a rare th
  14. I was born in Albany, New York and raised in Latham, New York. Latham is just ten miles outside of Albany, when it used to be out in the country-side. I'm writing to you from Hiddenhausen, Germany - out in the countryside, and right in the middle of Germany. I moved here in 2002 to be with my partner girl-friend Brigitte. My parents and sister are still living just outside of Albany. Now, if I might respectly ask - why are you in Arizona of all places? I have the feeling that given the chance, you and I would have a lot to chat about. Dave
  15. Hello Katyjay, pleased to meet you here. Arizona I see - was there once or twice - the perfect place to live. I back-packed it through there, slept on a school lawn, woke up happy and moved on, that was 1974. The last of the good years in my opinion.....it was safe and sound - just like those bus - trolley's in Nottingham.
  16. Please excuse my ignorance - in America we had trolley-cars - I never heard of a trolley bus - I learn as I go, and really liked the photos posted on this page - as safe as yesterday! Dave
  17. Mick2me - I agree with you 100% - They Only Come Out At Night - fantastic album....I also like - Edgar Winter's White Trash (green street cover) and Roadworks 1972 - Still Alive and Well and Back In The USA by Derringer.
  18. Hi Michael, thank you. Yes, it was a very sad event. But all in all - it did give many people, some peace of mind, by giving final respect to our life long hero. Tears flowed that's for sure. It was great to be with so many wonderful people - thank you everyone. I felt bad for Johnny Winter, although he did walk on stage by himself - and gave it his all. Now there's a man to respect while he's still living and playing - please do that....show him some love and support. Dave
  19. Alvin Lee passed away suddenly on March 6, 2013 - a shock to everyone, band members past and present are still numb over it. Brigitte and I (Dave) just returned from Paris where there was a "Tribute" to "Alvin Lee" as he was to play here (in Paris) on Sunday April 7, 2013......On the original concert bill, was to be another meeting of Johnny Winter and Alvin Lee, that has not happened in 30 years. At this tribute concert, it was Johnny Winter, Edgar Winter, Jimmy Gallagher, Tommy Emmanuel, Robben Ford. Ten minutes before show time, the Woodstock 1969 version of, Ten Years After's - "I'm Going
  20. Thank You Michael, for the warm welcome, looking forward to exchanging information with you and the others here, should be lots of fun. From Dave
  21. Hello Everyone, just joined this group a few minutes ago. Seems like the perfect place to come, after the sudden passing of Alvin Lee. Like most people in the world, got my first sight of Alvin and Ten Years After during the movie Woodstock, and my girlfriend and I have been loyal fans from that time forward. Tomorrow morning we head for Paris, for the "Alvin Lee Tribute Concert" and upon our return next week we'll be posting our photos and concert review, as soon as possible. One of the reasons that we joined this website was to ask you nice folks in Nottingham for some help. We're looking f
