  1. Before I left Nottingham for good, My parents lived in Carlton, Orlando drive and one of the people living there at the time was involved in a murder. I cant recall all the details as I was only there intermittently yet I do remember my mother saying "poor lad"
  2. Our Arts teacher was rather like that. Very volatile yet a very bad aimer of things. Was it Mr Swift(?) who was the P.T. teacher. Got me interested in to rugby and I still enjoy watching rather than playing..
  3. Had it drilled into all of us from an early age...128592. not been used since 1978.
  4. Many thanks for the advice. I already use a Canon 60D with 100-400 and 17-270 lens as well as canon 100mm macro and my latest purchase of the Canon 10-22mm lens (not boasting but just trying to ask the question) All this equipment and all I really want is a pair of Bino's that can sit on my desk and as I see things out of the bedroom window I can use the attached camera to snap away.
  5. Most mornings I am sat at the desk with my computer looking out of the window at the lovely green expanse of field opposite. Usually there is some form of wild life moving about there and I have my binoculars to hand just in case. So!, has anybody ever seen a pair of Binoculars that has a built-in camera so that whatever you look at can be saved to picture straight away? I suspect that some one somewhere has actually either made one or even bought one but so far I have never seen such an item.
  6. Was there any female teachers at County High School then. I can't recall seeing any?
  7. My wife believes in reincarnation. I think its all a load of tosh, which is so very strange because I also used to believe in a previous life.
  8. The old mans saying is " plant Pears for Heirs"
  9. There was a connecting lane between priory road and gedling road in Carlton which was always referred to as "the twitchell" Never heard that term anywhere else.
  10. I do recall and with great fondness, using the cinema at the end of Orlando drive in Carlton ( the Ritz) and the one close to the bottom of Carlton Hill called ( the regal). The regal had a lovely small but compact sweetie shop next door that sold Coltsfoot and Arrowroot as well as all the old favourite sweets in their white paper bags.
  11. Can't stand films that use one dimensional actors. Stallone, schwartzneggar, willis Statham e.t.c. Much prefer a movie that has real actors in it so that the viewer stops seeing the actor and only see's the character portrayed. for an example, Michael Caine in "harry Brown"Michael Sheen in "Damned United' John Mills and trevor Howard and such like. I am sure that we all have at least one good actor favourite. Some film titles that I could watch several times are Jesus of Montreal. (Canadian) Brotherhood ( Tae guk ci).(Korean) The Lion in Winter. Any Kurasawa film Most Depardieu films Za
  12. The last film that I saw at the cinema was "Alien". Saw it on a very big screen in a place called White Flint Mall in the Wash D.C suburbs when it first came out. Left the cinema with fingernail imprints in the palms of my hands so deep they should have drawn blood. However for those like me who are usually awake in the early hours most mornings, this site is worth checking out for some old style but good films to view in the comfort of your own house and its legal and free. http://www.bnwmovies.com/genre/action
  13. Try this, cook up some rice with turmuric. Rinse in cold water. strain and leave to dry. Meanwhile scrape and cut into tiny, and I mean tiny, cubes, One large carrot, I onion, I stick of celery, One apple, handful of grapes if available and one chilli pepper. ( I use one birds eye pepper and a bit of ginger). Mix well with the rice and set aside. Cook up some sausages and some new potato,s. When ready, cut the sausages into bite size pieces and do the new potatos into bite size pieces as well. Mix the sausages and the potato's with a good helping of Mayonnaise and serve with the rice mixture.
  14. I was born in Beeston Rylands but Dad took the Family orf to Australia back in 51 and we spent some time living in an Immigrant camp made of corrugated iron sheeting. Then into "Mrs Shadgetts Boarding house" where each and every night was an adventure with men coming into town after finding Gold, selling it and getting very drunk. The town "Collie" south of Perth W.A. had one church, one cinema, fifteen bars. We moved into a caravan out in the bush for some time and lived with creepie crawlies everywhere until Dad found us a house. The house was on stilts as it was in a swamp and the walls wer
  15. Hi to every one. I recently joined this site as I find myself awake very very early every morning. (bad dreams). I used to attend County high school from its inception to about two or three years later when I chose to leave to get out into the big wide world. I worked in a Carlton factory for six months and then moved to a job in Netherfield (Luxfers) . Stuck this for five months and then joined up and travelled the world for the following 23 years and seven months doing things and seeing things I would never ever had had the chance if I had not Joined up. Bad times and Good which outweighe
  16. Hi to all. I have just joined the site and my first contribution is....I was on the first intake of pupils to join the County High School way..way...way back in 59/60/61. Sorry but my "old-timers" is kicking in when ever I attempt to recall dates any further back that 1963. However, Professor Higgngton was the Prime minister ( head master). I was in Pundit House and prior to that I had been attending Eastwood secondary Tech based ...obviously in Eastwood. It was such a long schlep from where we lived in Gedling and I was so glad when we relocated to Arnold which was just up Gedling lane and a
