  1. Just to finish my memories of the Oxford,Joe the landlord was a bit of a moaner and it really "irked him"that the blood room had been taken over by a group of pensioners that would sit in there with half a pint that lasted them all evening, whilst .playing Dominoes. So he installed fluorescent lighting and a Juke box.

All to no avail, the pensioners were mostly hard of hearing, and the spots on their Dominoes shone brilliantly in the fluorescent lighting.

  2. We used to cycle there to go fishing in the 50s from Bestwood, before it wasnt a nature reserve,we just new it as Beeston gravel pits,i had lent my mate Barry my new disgorger (a small metal object used to retrieve the hook if the fish had swallowed it) it cost me 4 old pence, anyway Barry fell in while useing it,and i was on the bank shouting "throw the disgorger out" he never forgave me.

It was a pub near there where i 1st bought a girl a drink (Sandra Webster) i was 15 and she had a Babycham(with Cherry of course) cost me 1/6 still got the stick, with Jolly anglers on.romantic fool that i am. :)

  3. Thats really nice Lizzie, its 20 yrs this year since i lost mine, and was thinking about her this morning, and remembered a rule she had with me and my brother,if we had had even slight disagreement with her, before we could enter the house again,we had to throw our cap in first,as a peace offering,

    WAS THIS A NOTTINGHAM THING?

  5. Think we learned the value of money in our youth and that it had to be earned because our parents didn't have a lot.

1£ for a mornings potato picking or 1£/10s for a days beet banging, mind you could do a lot more with it back then.

    This is very true. :)

  6. GOT the strap on a regular basis at Padstow,I once got it for laughing at the drama teacher who was reciting shakespeare on the stage,he had a real passion for it,and in the middle of his rendering he fell off the stage on to the piano before breaking wind and landing on the floor, next to me.
