  1. Thats really nice Lizzie, its 20 yrs this year since i lost mine, and was thinking about her this morning, and remembered a rule she had with me and my brother,if we had had even slight disagreement with her, before we could enter the house again,we had to throw our cap in first,as a peace offering,

    WAS THIS A NOTTINGHAM THING?

  2. Just found this topic on Bulwell",some of the posts i found fasinating as my mothers family were from HIGHBURY VALE,she was one of 9.the family name was "JACKSON".They lived on Chatham st and Albert st,Bill and Mary were my grandparents and the kids all born in the 20s and 30s were Nell,Doris,Rose,Gwen,Marg,Connie,Bill,Joan and John.

just wondered if anyone remembered them.

  3. Think we learned the value of money in our youth and that it had to be earned because our parents didn't have a lot.

1£ for a mornings potato picking or 1£/10s for a days beet banging, mind you could do a lot more with it back then.

    This is very true. :)

  4. GOT the strap on a regular basis at Padstow,I once got it for laughing at the drama teacher who was reciting shakespeare on the stage,he had a real passion for it,and in the middle of his rendering he fell off the stage on to the piano before breaking wind and landing on the floor, next to me.

  5. My Dad had Parkinsons and being very independant insisted living on his own, despite my pleas to come and live with us.however as his condition got worse he had to make the decision a "care home" or come to us.thankfully he chose us,.just a few days before he came i was on the phone to him and he described the room we had for him (he had only visited us once about 3 yrs prior) i put it down to him having a good memory, but he went on to describe the furniture and layout of it,i thought this a bit spooky until he told me,"what programme i was watching"i even changed channel and he still knew.

Obviously the move was on his mind and he was taking alot of tablets, but how strange,

    we know NOWT,do we.

  6. As a family we are cat lovers and over the years they have given us many funny moments, when we lived in Old Basford out garden backed on to some allotments and FOXES were regular visitors.we had 3 cats and we always fed them outside, and the Foxes often joined them for breakfeast all eating together often from the same dish.magic moments!

  7. Cup final day 1953,(the matthews final) i was 8 and decided i would venture to Jelly Lake at moorbridge, which is now a nature reserve at the corner of Hucknall rd and Bestwood rd,its 2 mile from where i lived on Andover rd.I thought my mates had gone there.

Its where we used to go in a gang to catch Newts,Frogs and tadpoles, when i got there none of my mates were there, only another gang i"d not seen before,)they had Air guns and were shooting F)rogs the small pond was full of dead ones.I was really upset and angry and demanded they cease.Ofcourse they took no notice and turned me into their target and was shot in the ankle.

I ran all the way home and getting there no one was in,so i went to my aunts on the next road, and about 12 of the family were there, all watching the cup final my aunt was the only one with a telly). It was a while before i went anywhere alone again.

and oh yes MY MATES HAD GONE TO VERNON PARK!

  8. Seriously Forest have shot it,reading between the lines today in the POST,Its obvious FAWAZ is the manager and runs it his way,he will choose the players that come in,he may as well pick the team.he states he knows football and has even played in KUWAIT.WOW!
