My project in the Garden for the last  year...has been trying to save a dying Rose.............

This particular Rose was planted a good few years since.........by my Late father in law in his small garden in Peterborough.........It was planted in memory of one of his daughters(my wifes sister) who died in a car accident...

Her mother also passed a year ago.......and when their house went on the Market we decided to try and save this Rose........dug it up and brought it to our present home........

Planted it with loving care......but earlier this year it looked completely 'Dead'....the wife wouldn't let me dig it up and get rid.........it meant too much to her..............Anyhow without her agreeing or even knowing......i transplanted it into a large fancy Plant container ..in the early spring.. along with some Earth and compost...........

At first it looked a hopeless case....so i cut it right back.......the wife was upset when she eventually realised what i'd done..............Anyhow the good news is......it has grown back to life...all green and bushy and this morning noticed it had two buds which i know will flower............Wife is over the moon..........knowing her sisters memory will linger on..............never knew i had such 'Green Fingers'........:)

Thought i'd give you an update on the wife's special Rose''..........still in a Pot...and flowered yesterday...i have 6 Roses all in Pots and its always the first to 'Flower''.....think it loves Notts...after its origins in Cambs''.........makes Donna's day on a regular basis...funny thing is it was her Mothers birthday too yesterday...Donna is sure..its her Mother saying hello...:)

Only one of my very large family of Uncles Aunts and cousins had a Telly........it was my Aunt Connie on Leybourne drive i was 8 and we all crowded in her front room to watch a tiny Telly........still recall Granddads head blocking my view......must admit i was interested even at that young age.......the Coronation and the Mathews cup final are my first memories of watching TV..........

  8. That photo cliff ton brings back so many different memories.........1950 ish school walk across fields (before Bestwood Park was built)..........there was a farm called ''Scotties'' where we would pick Strawberries....remember jumping from a Barn onto loads of ''Hay''......and the Farmer accusing us of ;Nicking his ''Strawberries'' just because we were covered in ''Juice''.......

It was also the Place where we would meet lads from 'Edwards' lane estate to arrange football matches instead of throwing stones at each other.....we'd play on the 'Camp' pitches...(Prison)

In later years we'd drink together in the Pub shown.......it was also the site of 'Swimming Baths;; and still is a ''Police Station''

Amazing how one fairly obscure photo can ''Evoke'' such long lost memories of times well past...........

Oh dear, the locals round here are really upset tonight, a load of ‘travellers’ have pitched up on the Carrington Cricket Ground, what used to be the Police Training Ground, (and I think @benjamin1945played football there many times).   They’re a law unto themselves

I certainly did Lizzie...playing for Notts Corinthians in the Thursday league against the Police..early 60s......good standard of Amatuer football......

I had a run in with the so called ''Travellers''' a few years ago in Morrisons car park Bulwell........one of them threatened to beat me up for having the cheek to use the Zebra crossing in front of them in their Van..........i stood my ground and held up the traffic whilst they kept revving their engine.........and jerking towards me and opening and closing his door as if he was getting out to me...Cut a long story short the Police (having finished their ''Breakfast'' in Morrisons canteen) confronted me and when i used that awful word ''Gypsy's'' threatened to arrest me.......yes they are a law unto themselves.....it being in Bulwell i had a gang of little old ladies sticking up for me.......even the 'Travellers' didnt argue with them.....lol
