  1. Were "Notts County Rovers" anything to do with Notts County ???

    Did a newspaper search for Mabbott and Notts County and this Notts County Rovers keeps coming up .

    Here's part of a report from 1892 in which N. County Rovers beat Grantham 16-0 in the short lived Midland Alliance League !!

    J.Mabbott scored a number of times as did a C. Mabbott ..

    Thats fascinating David,ive always been interested in local football and its history and never heard of this,certainly looks like it could have been some of the reserve sides,names like Strollers and Swifts,which Rugby teams use nowadays must have been an inovation back then,

  2. See John Guy often in Bulwell he was the goalie at school,haven't seen Frank Smith for years think he went to America,he was in my class all through school,Sandra Binch and Marion Frost were also in my class in junior school (Henry Whipple),

Blondie,did'nt live in Hucknall just worked and drank there alot as a teenager,i'm from Bestwood and Bulwell and left school (padstow) in 1960,played football also early 60s for Hazel Grove celtic on Titchfield park,only remember 3 Hucknall lads from that team Tilley big ginger lad,Barry Stokely off Ruffs and Ray Bramley who was a milkman.

    However loved the Locarno' went there as much as possible,maybe we danced together a few did say yes..... :)

In a restaurant/pub the other day and a football shirted middle aged bloke about 6 tables away was talking so loud the whole place could hear every stupid word he uttered,i wanted to tell him to shut .the ....... up,but the wife pointed out he was about 16st and well over my height and it could be harmful to my health.

    I did as i was told,shes very sensible,..........
