Some you love some you hate,when i began travelling the country in the 60s i was fascinated to hear all the different twangs,even around nottm,ie sneinton and meadows so different from bulwell and hucknall,and then mansfield,well another pplanet in the 60s,.Not so different nowa days but it was then. Then moving further afield,Birmingham,Manchester,Newcastle,Liverpool ,i was enthralled.To me thats what makes the UK so interesting,and i love to hear ethnic minorities with the local accent,for instance a Sikh with a broad Brummy one,.Is it me or do you find it interesting?

As ive got older i find myself being annoyed by people much more,in all ways,for instance,people who answer every question with the reply,ABSOLUTLY. and even more annoying people who end every sentance with that Aussie upspeak turning it into what sounds like a question,for instance , ive just been to the SHOPS? .Love to hear your views!

Edna was brilliant,i remember her two sons who served there John and Rob (i think)and liz and big AL,80S SAT/SUN NIGHTS, Piano going and people getting up singing(not kaioke),Pianist Harry ex popular jazz player,when Harry not there it was Dennis from New Basford,never no bother just a great night

  4. speaking of snooker,does anyone know what the connection was between Burtons tailors and snooker? there was a snooker hall above or below Burtons on Carrington st and one above Burtons in Long Eaton,and during my travels 60/70s found the same combination in a few other Towns.

  5. Knew alot of the Barraboys in the 60s by sight,and if they didnt play football on thursday afternoons they could be found playing snooker on Goldsmith st, under ground club at the back of guardian newspaper building, can,nt remember the name of the club,was it Elston and Hopkins ?

  6. back in the 60s when thursday was half day closing i played football for Notts Corinthians run by Redmayne and Todds,we played our home matches on the Embankment,i remember a few of the other teams like,City Police,county police,Forest colts can any of you recall the others cos iam blowed if i can

  7. i was a floorwalker at coop house during the 90s and have wonderful memories of it especially the staff and some offenders,in particular one old lady in her 70s who stole ladies coats at £40 a time,one day i saw her take a coat and exit the store,didnt enjoy stopping old ladies but couldnt just let her take it.anyway she was most indignant at me stopping her and under protest returned into the store with me,she wouldnt cooperate with me,refused to open her bag or give me her name.i even made her a cup of tea while trying to placate her,she was having none of it and in the end i had to call the Bill,.a PC duly arrived,i told him just want the coat back and we ban her job done. He told her just give us your details love and you can be on your way! the conversation then went, PC name luv, OLD LADY fanny, PC thats better Fanny,surname? old lady bygaslight, PC YOURE peeing me off now,one more chance, old lady, ok, PC RIGHT IST NAME,? OLD LADY, it is fanny, PC OK surname? old lady, ADAMS! SHE WAS PROMPTLY ARRESTED BLESS HER, :biggrin: :biggrin: :biggrin: LOVED HER!

  8. back in the 50s all schools football was played on sat.mornings,kicking off mostly at 10 am,i plyed for Henry Whipple then Padstow and remember catching the bus to different school grounds,we played local Derbys in Bulwell against,St.Marys,Rufford,Springfield,Highbury and Bonnington,and travelled to foriegn parts to play haydn rd,Claremont,Huntingdon st,Berridge,William Sharpe,Players,Cottesmore,Whitemore, dont think they play sat.mornings now,could be wrong,thinking back we took the Teachers for granted who gave of their time,had some brilliant ones,H.L.taylor,mr Barnes,mr Harris,mr walker,mr fyles and mr Thomas,it was compulsary after every game win or lose to give 3 cheers for the other team.ah happy days :)

  9. had one in 2003 ,i was walking the hills in staffs miles from anywhere,luck saved me,i used to go every wed.and never took my phone for some reason Donna my wife insisted i take it that day, just managed a 999 and they found me in time took me to hospital in Stoke,there for week.and never looked back,used to be a bit of a drinker,not now except on special occasions,luckiely no scarring didnt need stents,then got other probs.life aint a bed of Roses,you be ok CAFTAN and as the nottm saying goes,dont let the Bastards grind you down, :biggrin:

  10. i am from a railway family,both Grandads Shunters and wheeltappers Annesley ,Dad shunter and guard,i did 6 months as a Van Lad Midland Station 1960 on leaving school,Grandad was Secretary of the NUR Bulwell branch,plus i was Barman at BRSA Bestwood rd Bulwell circa 1963,does anything resonate with you?
