Marks & Spencer & British Home Stores were there too. The Town Arms was more familiar to me as we hung out on the Trent Embankment, though I didn't drink as I was still too young It all looks so small today,& even when I go back it even feels small. Caz

  20. NO No!! It's just that I personally don't remember the corner shops that you do. I have very fond memories of the corner shops when I was a gel. I particularly remember the shop right on the corner of Turney St, we used to get our penny suckers [as we called them] from there, they were really yummy & lasted for ages & sherbert saucers that made your cheeks laugh.oooo! I can also remember the smell of the Off Licence, where we used to get our ciggies,we would only get one & share it in the girls loo,we would all be in there one at each side, one on the bog & two at the fron
  21. Hi John Ryehill St had London Rd on one side & Arkwright St on the other. The Greyhound pub was on the corner of the London Rd end. I lived facing the old Almshouses @ # 6 .It can be seen on the map above these posts but it's very tiny,it's adjacent Muskham St if you can see that? Caz
  22. Well metaphorically speaking BIP is right about the red & white stripes. I understand that in days gone by barbers used to do something called bleeding which was done to rid the body of poisons & all manner of health problems, I assume the dentistry story is one & the same thing. I was just being specific. Caz
