  1. That Mansfield District Traction Bristol Lodekka is a smart looking bus.

The MGO bus with the Vernons advert on the side was an AEC lowbridge series that had four seats on the nearside and a sunken aisle on the drivers side of the upper deck.

Buses like that one often serviced the B8 route due to the low bridges around Bestwood/Hucknall before MGO bought Bristol Lodekkas.

I would think he’s had the vaccine already

According to our media he has not had the vaccination as he has been suffering from a chest ailment.

I just wish him all the best and hope for a speedy and full recovery along with all those suffering from Covid 19.

tried this with my Cannon, and it worked!

Thanks oldphil, before I try this I will go and check with my cartridge supplier to see if he will take the non genuine ones back if they don't work otherwise I will be further out of pocket.

Interestingly the shop I get them from is consistently cheaper than anywhere else I can get them even on line.

  4. I've used an Epson NX printer without any issues for well over 6 years. When I first replaced the cartridges I used a generic brand with no problems, 40% cheaper than the originals. Recently for some reason it does not recognise the non genuine cartridges, I suspect a software upgrade.

  5. Yes Ben, All the mining villages had their illegal bookies and runners and when it became legalised and licensed many of them became the legal bookie before the big end of town moved in.

Even as a kid I knew where the bookies was in my village and often wondered why the police never bothered them and turned a blind eye to their activities.

We are regular attendees at the sport of kings and only bet when we are at the races. We like to add a bit of interest by having a $1 bet on a trifecta in each race. Got the right numbers once but not quite the right order and missed out on $6,000. Off to the GG's tomorrow

  6. One of Forest's greats Peter Shilton has launched a campaign called "Shiltons Shirt Gambling Ban" in an effort to rid football of all involvement in gambling either by advertising or sponsorship.

If we look at the Premier League 8 teams have shirt sponsors that are gambling companies.

Burnley, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Leeds United, Newcastle United, Southampton, West Ham United, and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Interestingly non of the mega teams have gambling sponsors but the logos of the gambling companies adorn the billboards surrounding the pitches. Even Forest have a betting based shirt sponsor and Stoke City is owned by Bet365.

I'm with Shilton on this one, what about football followers on here!

Might have been posted before but this is interesting on the history of NCT and when bus types were changed

Thanks Stuart.C I found that most interesting including the fact that it started with the newest history whereas most historical time lines start with the oldest.

Surprising that the first O.M.O. bus operated in 1951 although in quite a different way to which we are now used to.

Post 1975 is all new to me having left the UK then.

Correct me if I am wrong but surely having dedicated colour buses on specific routes leads to having to have more spare buses of the same colour to cover for breakdowns and servicing than having a common livery with destination and route boards.

    Don't forget it's Burn's night on Monday 25th

Prince Charles is being shown around a London hospital.  Towards the end of the visit, he is shown into a ward with a number people with no obvious signs of injury or disease. He goes to greet the first patient and the chap replies: "Fair fa' your honest sonsie face, Great chieftain e' the puddin' race!  Aboon them a' ye tak your place, Painch, tripe, or thairm; Weel are ye wordy o' a grace as lang's my arm." The prince, being somewhat confused (easily done) goes to the next patient and greets him. The patient replies: "Some hae meat, and canna eat, and some wad eat that want it, but we hae meat and can eat, and sae the Lord be thankit." The third starts rattling off: "Wee sleekit, cow'rin, tim'rous beastie, O, what a panic's in thy breastie! Thou need na start awa sae hasty, wi bickering brattle! I wad be laith to rin an chase thee, wi murdering pattle!" Prince Charles turns to the doctor and asks: "Is this mental ward?" "No" the doctor replies, "It's the serious Burns unit."

When me and the wife were first 'Sparking'' we used to copy ''Brief Encounter'' and meet either on Peterborough or Nottingham stations.

I seem to remember that the Simon and Garfunkel song Homeward Bound was associated with Widnes railway station.

Why don't you write a chart topping song about Peterborough or Nottingham stations Ben

The Beatles with 'Hard Days Night' had a massive impact on the world of pop music films

I remember Wilfrid Bramble (old man Steptoe) playing Paul's grandfather.

In a 1999 survey of 1000 people involved in the British Film Industry voted it the 88th of films in the 20th century that were "culturally British"

The top 5 in the survey were

    1. The Third Man  - 1949
    2. Brief Encounter - 1945 I've never seen or heard of this one
    3. Lawrence of Arabia - 1962
    4. The 39 Steps - 1935
    5. Great Expectations - 1946 Missed this one

The most "modern" one is from 1998

    The complete list is here

Sorry if I have affeneded you OZ but its life so to speak.

You did not offend me at all Mary I just thought that putting a like against someone writing about and suffering from PD was somehow not the right response.

I sometimes wish the were other options.

  12. If I were to stock my "workshop" I would have the following. A Bridgeport turret milling machine with all the attachments, including a rotary and an angle table, a Colchester Student Lathe with face plates and steadies. Jones and Shipman surface and cylindrical grinders, a power hacksaw and welding gear. I reckon there is not much I couldn't tackle with that gear.

Stupid thing is that as companies re-equiped with multi axis CNC machine tools these things could be had for a song. Stupid me missed out as I was still working and did not have the time. I also have access to a portable forge if I need one

mary1947, I don't feel that a like is an appropriate response to your writing about PD but thank you for giving us a better understanding of the condition.

Thanks for the info OZ..........Where can i get a ''Spork''?   fed up scattering Peas everywhere............

You can get them at most shops that sell cutlery here in OZ but unless you can find a shop that stocks Viners cutlery in the UK it looks like you will have to buy on-line, Viners have a website that you can look at and I can see that there are quite a few available on EBay.

You can buy special spoons that somehow adjust for the tremble but they are many hundreds of dollars here. One brand is called Gyenno another is Liftware they all have interchangeable ends, spoons, forks and Liftware have a Spork but it looks like they don't ship to the UK I am sure one of our USA members can get one and ship it to you.

  15. My signature has never been readable so it makes no difference at all. I think it came from having to sign so much useless paperwork at work.

Has anyone thought of using a "Splayd" It is a hybrid between a spoon, a fork and a knife. The fork usually has four pronged and it is dished like a spoon and the edges have  "cutting" edges that are not sharp enough to cut your mouth but do a reasonable job on veggies and softer meats like chicken, fish, liver or sausages.

The more urbane Aussies call them Sporks They were invented in the 1940's in NSW. At one time Viners of Sheffield were the UK licencees.
