Here's a rare one came up in my facebook feed

    Mackeson Coach

Did they serve milk stout on the Hucknall run?

    Surely you mean Makemsons

There is a great slideshow here with some shots of a Marsden store for our Ben

The Omnibus Society | Makemson, Bulwell, Nottingham (zenfolio.com)

There is also some good stuff on the Bulwell photos Facebook site including a red and cream Makemsons single decker in a montage of a number of their coaches.

    No photo description available.

  2. Our ex-Prime Minister, Scott Morrison has admitted that he took medication for severe anxiety whilst he was in office.

He explained "how his faith had intersected with his time as leader" (what does that mean) and that the toll of the job had worn on him and that his waves of anxiety had become acute.

As arguably the worst Prime Minister Australia has ever had. I can assure him that he caused endless anxiety to countless millions of Australians who lost their faith in him and his Liberal (Conservative) government with their endless rorts and waste of public money. The deliberate policies of grinding the less well off in our society further into the dirt were nothing short of scandalous. Their automated "Robodebt" debt recovery system and pursuit of people that were alleged to have been overpaid by our social security system was bordering on criminality. He won't get much sympathy from many Australians.

  3. Just came across some information on season ticket prices for the EPL

All prices are in GBP as a I can't get a pound sign on this forum

    Forest 850 - 550 A child ticket is 190

    Arsenal, the most expensive, 2050 - 1073 A child ticket is 1025.25 - 536.50

Not including the other relegation threatened clubs Forest's is one of the cheaper ones.

How does the average Joe afford to take himself and two kids to the game on a Saturday?

  4. Fair do's Mess, here you go.

    Burnley

27th April away at Manchester United who are still in the running for a place in Europe. A loss 0 points

4th May home to Newcastle United, they too have an outside chance of Europe. A draw 1 point

11th May away at Spurs, Also battling for Europe. A loss 0 points.

Burnley have by far the most difficult end of season run in than all the other clubs under threat and I can't see them finishing on any more than 24 points.

I think many of the Forest players gave up ages ago and it is no doubt many are not equipped with the skills and drive for the Premier League and should have been cleared out a long time ago. There is something seriously wrong with recruitment at the City Ground.

The latter route included going along Wilford Lane which had a low railway bridge. All the operators (NCT, South Notts, WBUDC) had low-bridge buses to cope with that bridge.

As an aside wasn't the Chateau, a Berni Inn on Wilford Rd.

In all the years of going to Nottingham I never travelled on a South Notts or a WBUDC bus. NCT Trent, Barton. MGO, Gash's but never those two.

70000 Civil Service Jobs to be cut to fund increased defence spending

Having worked in the public service for a while. I am a firm believer that you could sack at least 30% of the work force and make no difference to the services offered. I am not talking about the front-line workers in our health services, emergency services, armed forces, transport etc. I am talking about the rapid proliferation of "administrators/managers" whose sole aim appears to come up with more ways of having the front-line staff do more reporting and data collecting thus spending less and less time on doing what actually matters. Political staff should be reduced in all levels of government as this army of advisors have very few real-life skills and even less life experience yet are advising our political masters on what needs to be done. There are far too many justifying their own existence rather than doing what matters.

  7. Given that it looks like the battle to avoid relegation is now between Forest and Luton let's look at what games are left

    Forest

28th April, home to Manchester City who are still in the premiership race. A loss 0 points

4th May, away at Sheffield United who may well have been relegated by then and playing for pride. A draw 1 point

11th May, home to Chelsea who may have lost interest having nothing to play for. A win 3 points

19th May, away at Burnley who also may be relegated by then. A win 3 points

    Luton

28th April, away at Wolves who have a solid home record. A loss 0 points

4th May, home to Everton who are playing well at the moment. A draw one point

11th May, away at West Ham who play better away than at home. A draw one point

19th May, home to Fulham who don't have the best away form. A win 3 points

Summary Forest finish on 33 points, Luton finish on 30 points. If my predictions are any good Forest will survive, just.

  8. Forest - After Everton beat Liverpool 2-0 last night and putting a big dent in their premiership hopes they move themselves to 33 points, seven points clear of Forest. It looks like the battle for survival has now come down to Forest or Luton to fill that final spot. Whilst not yet mathematically certain it looks like Sheffield United are doomed and that Burnley only have an outside chance of survival.

If it had the long seats upstairs I assume it is a lowbridge bus.

Yes it was the, the upstairs side walkway protruded into the lower deck and many a passenger bumped their heads when standing up to get off the bus. The Midland General B8 from Mansfield to Nottingham via everyone's back garden was often an AEC Regent III RLH (Regent Low Height) and Barton Transport had a very special Dennis Loline II which was the lowest ever for a fully enclosed double deck bus in the UK

This morning I watched the Remembrance  Day parade etc. I thought about family members in both WW1 and WW2.

Tomorrow Australian time we celebrate our Remembrance Day

25th April is ANZAC Day The day starts with dawn services symbolising the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps that took part in the Gallipoli campaign in 1915. Whilst I have no relatives in Australia who took part in conflicts I do take time to remember my Dad who survived Dunkirk, was posted with the 8th Army to North Africa then invaded Sicily and fought up through Italy. My mum was in the WAAF initially on balloon crews and then on the bomber airfields of Notts/Lincs. My Maternal grandfather fought with the Royal Ulster Rifles in Fance during WWI. I am immensely proud of being named after my mum's brother who tragically received fatal wounds at Dunkirk who like his father was in the Royal Ulster Rifles. I have all my family medals proudly displayed in a cabinet in the entrance hall of our home. Mum would only have to hear the opening bars of the last post to burst into a flood of tears and I freely admit to the odd tear at times.

  11. Had an interesting time with a plumber yesterday. The pressure relief valve from the hot water tank was leaking and to set about replacing it he had to turn off the supply to the solar water heater on the roof. Easy job valve replaced but when it came to turn the water on again the stop tap for the solar water heater would not stop leaking.

He called his apprentice to get a new one and it was soon fitted with no problem. Just one job left, that was to change the cold water supply to the kitchen from tank water to mains. We had to top the tanks up with mains water a few weeks ago as we have had no meaningful rain for months He went to the main supply stop tap and turned the handle towards the off position but the handle came off in his hand. Not surprising given that to my knowledge it has not been operated in the 8 years we have been here. The result was a ten foot fountain effectively watering the garden and lawn with free water as the tap was on the supply side before the meter. A quick call to the local water supply company who said that they would be there within 5 hours. An hour and a half later they turned up and fixed the leak. We will try and finish the job today.

  12. If Nuno was half as good as he thinks he is and his overpaid prima donnas had put some effort in they would not be where they are today. Blaming everyone else for problems entirely of their own making throughout the season smells of absolute desperation to me.

    Watching the Olympics

It is just short of 100 days until the start of "The Limp Dick Games"

The free to air TV channel that is telecasting the games is bombarding us with jingoistic adverts. Obviously all about Australian participants. When it is on we only see events where the Australians participate and never see any of the non main stream but nevertheless interesting sports. FFS Break dancing is not a sport neither is "sport" climbing or 3x3 Basketball, what in the heck is artistic swimming? Where are they going to surf in Paris? Have a guess, it will be in Teahupo'o in Tahiti, French Polynesia. What a bl**dy joke! Apparently Baseball, Softball and Karate are being dropped for Paris.

Small wonder that I will not be taking any interest in it. It is about time they stopped this expensive event along with the Commonwealth Games as nobody wants to host them. Rumblings are happening over the cost of the 2032 games in Brisbane. Melbourne cancelled the 2026 Commonwealth Games and The Gold Coast have withdrawn their nomination they are now without a host city and may be delayed by a year or cancelled altogether.

  14. Forest- Fail to capitalise on the game in hand over Luton by losing 2-0 away at Everton. The referee and VAR came in for severe criticism for failing to award penalties to Forest, one handball appeared obvious yet was denied.

Everton scored the first of their long range efforts in the 29th minute when Idrissa Gueye fired one home. McNeil put the result beyond doubt when his 25 yard shot went in off the post in the 76th minute. At the end of normal time the game was stopped for 8 minutes after Everton player Beto was injured during a challenge by Morgan Gibbs-White and had to be taken off on a stretcher. Apart from the non awarding of penalties Forest were denied a goal when Everton 'keeper made a smart save from Chris Wood when the score was 1-0. Home to Manchester City next Sunday and I cannot see any points to aid their survival there. For now they remain 1 point ahead of Luton on the same number of games. Luton are away at Wolves next Saturday

  15. Somewhere I have a medallion given to all the employees of the automotive components company I worked for in Sydney celebrating 75 years of operation. They only went and spelled the name of the company wrong didn't they. HR who organised it and did the proof reading of the artwork got an almighty bollocking from the MD. I suppose one day it might be worth something.

  16. Apparently hedgehogs are quite tasty. Back in the 50s we often had genuine travellers/gypsies camp near the end of our village and they told us that after dispatching the little critters and gutting them then covering them in clay and baking them in a fire. The spines come off with the skin along with the clay. Apparently, hedgehog stew is quite popular too.

It is illegal to domesticate them in the UK but it is not illegal to eat them. in January 2023 some travellers in Belgium were fined 1,600 Euro for eating them.

Before anyone arcs up, Guinea Pigs or Cuy are bred specifically for human consumption in Bolivia, Columbia Ecuador and Peru

  17. Forest - Luton were smashed 1-5 at home by Brentford so even if Forest lose at home to Manchester City today, as I predicted, their position will be unchanged, still one point ahead of Luton. Hoping for the best but expecting the worst.

Don't know what made me put Manchester City when of course they are away at Everton. I must have been thinking of their last home game. I put this one down as a draw giving Forest a very welcome away point.

    DOH!

  18. County - As I predicted a 1-0 home win against Colchester United in  front of just over 11,000 fans brings Notts County's home season to an end. Despite indifferent form in the last third of the season kudos go their fan base for turning out to support them. After Colchester almost took the lead early doors it was pretty much all County. It took that man Macauley Langstaff, who scored his 28th goal of the season in the 54th minute to break the deadlock and keep the Magpies in 14th place. Colchester are still under the threat of relegation. County away at already relegated Forest Green Rovers next Saturday.

Stags - Their last home game and they almost fell a goal behind in the first 30 seconds of the game, but Timothee Dieng missed the chance by heading over the bar. Stags were dominating the game but Dieng put the Gills ahead in the 19th minute when from a tight angle he squeezed the ball past Christy Pym. Stags dominated the second half and had several good chances but had to wait until the 77th minute before Keillor-Dunn scored his 22nd of the season. Stags went ahead three minutes later when Stephen McLaughlin smashed a screamer into the top corner of the net. Stags missed out on finishing their home season with a stoppage time goal when the Gills 'keeper luckily saved a shot from Quinn with his knees. Away against play-off contenders Barrow next Saturday.

Forest - Luton were smashed 1-5 at home by Brentford so even if Forest lose at home to Manchester City today, as I predicted, their position will be unchanged, still one point ahead of Luton. Hoping for the best but expecting the worst.

I remember that, but it's not one which comes to mind when anyone mentions The Animals.

The Animals are touring in their Farewell Tour in Australia during May and will be at The Gov in Adelaide on 28th.

John Steel, one of the original band members along with Danny Handley, Bobby Ruiz and Barney (Boogie) Williams.

The Gov is a pub on the fringe of the CBD that is one of Adelaide's best live music venues.

The bill was just short of £1000

What happened to the days when you could just open the boot or the hatch, pull back a bit of the carpet, take off a cover. twist the bulb out and pop in a new one. A few quid and away you go. Ease and cost of assembly of the vehicle trumps serviceability every time. Quite often the visibility of the modern light clusters is a lot less than the older cars.

  21. County - In front of 11,656 fans, no doubt many from Stockport saw the Magpies thumped 2-5 at home against Champions, Stockport County. Paddy Madden scored a hat-trick in the first half to put the game beyond doubt even at that early stage. His second goal was a penalty after Cowley's handball. 5 minutes after half time Stockport went further ahead with a goal from Antoni Sarcevic. The Magpies eventually opened their account with a goal from that man Macauley Langstaff in the 61st minute and two minutes later Dan Cowley bagged another for Notts but all too late as Etham Pye hit Stockport's 5th, 6 minutes from time. Stockport missed a second penalty after Louie Barry hit the post. Pathetically l had more faith in Notts as I tipped this as a draw. Home against Colchester United on Saturday.

Stags - Promoted after a 2-1 win at Field Mill in front of 7,942 fans against Accrington Stanley. A low cross from George Maris was deflected into the Accrington net by Leigh in the second minute set them on the path to promotion. Boateng was denied a second a few minutes later by a fine save from Accrington's 'keeper Vitek. Stags went in at half time being comfortably ahead even though the score line did not reflect that. Stephen Quinn scored the Stags second in the 63rd minute. Accrington pulled one back with a goal from Tommy Leigh in the 85th minute but the result was never beyond doubt. A measure of Stags success this year has been met by Clough's selection of League Two's manager of the year and having three players named in League Two's team of the season. Home against Gillingham on Saturday. I tipped this one correctly.
