The first people who should have taken this seriously were our Govt... yet they have utterly failed on so many levels. They STILL have not apologised for getting the early stages so wrong.
New Zealand is a prime example of what could and should have been done using the maxim " Go Hard Go Early" and to some extent even though a little later our government has done similar things.
I cannot believe that the UK is still letting people come into the country without medical checks or quarantine. We and NZ have totally closed our borders no one is allowed in and when our government organises "mercy" flights to bring stranded Australians home they are taken from the airport they land at and put into compulsory quarantine for two weeks with daily testing. Only then, if clear are they allowed to go back to their home states.
I fully understand that NZ and OZ to not have the population numbers or the population density of the UK but early lockdown and continued social distancing appears to have worked.
I wonder if someone will really take the UK government to task particularly on the total fail on testing and sourcing of PPE for health workers.
To an outsider it looks like criminal negligence.

As we approach Anzac Day the day when Australia remembers those that made the supreme sacrifice the phrases that often appear on war memorials are the most haunting for me.
"No Known Grave"
"An Australian Soldier of the Great War … Known unto God"
I just cannot imagine the absolute grief of those left behind not knowing where their loved ones lie.
It will be a very strange Anzac Day this year with all public attendances at commemorative services banned due to Covid 19
There is a groundswell of community activity for us all to go outside our homes with a torch or candle at 5:55 am, dawn, on Anzac Day and pay our respects.

Sarah is the Melbourne court reporter for the ABC (our version of the BBC). We only get to see her in Adelaide when Victorian court cases are of national interest. Her most recent national coverage was following the acquittal of Catholic Cardinal George Pell of child abuse charges. very competent she was too. Why is it that most female reporters/presenters are most often more articulate than their male counterparts.
There are times when Australian states and Territories act like 8 different countries and can be very insular. You would think the road rules would be standard but you'd be wrong.

Taken from one of the best films of all time.... Monty Pythons' Life of Brian and I think it sums up this discussion.
Strangely enough it was shown of TV again a couple of nights ago
Brian ….. "Look you've got it all wrong. You don't need to follow me. You don't need to follow anybody. You've got to think for yourselves. You're all individuals"
Crowd, in unison.... "Yes we're all individuals"
or
The Irish comedian Dave Allen's closing line "May your god go with you"

I went off those doors a bit, aged 11 to 17, due to the Coop school uniform department being directly behind them!
I remember that too! Mum used to use the divi to buy our school uniforms.

They're all down the pub drinking Fosters.
First point of explanation. No self respecting Australian drinks Fosters, you can't find it in many pubs here.
Second point. The other religions all other groups e.g. Islam, Hindu, Buddhist, etc. but many recorded Jedi which was ignored by the census agency as not deemed relevant. Mostly people taking the pi$$?

Hi Rob.L Have they done anything to improve the road to the north of the White Post or Kirklington Road roundabouts as there were many deaths and accidents on the three lane sections of that bit of road. The turn off to Bilsthorpe near the Limes Café was notoriously bad.

We have the same problem with the Squirrels.
What would the squirrels be looking for under the mulch, do they eat grubs, worms and insects?
-
Bl**dy Blackbirds, they spend most of their time in my garden throwing the pine park mulch around. It is amazing how far the little bu**ers can throw pieces of bark. It is a full time job putting it back on the garden.

Hi Radford Boy,
Where did you live in Adelaide? We got to OZ in '75 and moved to Adelaide in '95
Strangely enough I managed a company in Ringwood for a while regularly travelling between Sydney and Melbourne. If memory serves me correctly Ringwood is about 10 minutes from Blackburn

I don't think that religion is a 'taboo' subject on NS
I don't think it should be either as long as we respect others viewpoints. I am an atheist but respect that others need a belief system. However like DJ360 I have no tolerance for anyone who wants to push their faith at me. We will get along fine if we hold our own beliefs and not try to impose them on others.
DJ360's post made me wonder about the religious beliefs of our Prime Ministers in Australia since we came to Australia. The summary is as follows
1 Atheist, 1 Methodist, 1 Anglican, 1 Pentecostal, 2 Agnostics, 3 Catholics
The last census identified the Australian population as No Religion 30%, Catholic 23%, Anglican 13%, Pentecostal 1%.
Strangely enough this is a reasonable reflection of the populace.

The death of Joe Brown aged 89 has been reported today. I know that many including myself and Affergoritt will be saddened by this news.
To say he was a natural was an understatement, like all those who were the best at what they did he made it all look so easy.
He was the first to climb many routes on Froggatt and Curbar Edge.

Just curious, why?
If you really have to do this then there is little point in doing ground preparation or any paving.

i remember that joke now from school days there were other jokes like that but i can not remember them do you know any more?
One very irreverent joke. No offence intended.
A bloke walks into a pub and says, "The lady that played Pussy Galore in Goldfinger has died"
"Honor Blackman"?
"No on a motorbike"

Just been reading the British newspapers and if the behaviour of the so called "covidiots" is as bad and as serious as the press portrays it then I would like to propose a 3 step process to address the problem. I have zero tolerance for anyone that continues this behaviour and ultimately puts everyone at risk.
Step 1 Anyone caught disobeying to social separation guide lines should be fined and then "named and shamed" if the privacy laws prevent this then change the laws.
Step 2 Anyone caught a second time is put on a register to be denied high level care i.e. ICU and ventilators should they catch Covid 19
Step 3 Unfortunately some may die but this will ultimately improve the IQ of the population.
I know that some will see this as controversial but there really needs to be a real consequence of this stupid anti social behavior

The sad death of Chelsea great Peter Bonetti has been reported today.
Sadly pilloried for one mistake in the 1970 World Cup Final against West Germany in Mexico whilst standing in for an ill Gordon Banks. The blame rested entirely with Alf Ramsey and his substitution of Bobby Charlton.
At the time England had an enviable choice of world class goalkeepers, Forest's Peter Grummitt among them.

Well said nonnaB,
I hope there is some form of worthwhile insurance scheme that takes care of those that are left after the hospital, medical and emergency services staff have lost their lives in battling to save ours.

Yet another from the video tape of my youth gone.

My last real memory of Stirling Moss was in 1976 at the worlds' greatest motor racing circuit, Bathurst, when he teamed up with Jack Brabham in a Holden Torana V8 unfortunately the engine let go and he did not finish the race.
Someone said he was the best driver never to have won a world championship.

Christ was crucified on the Jewish Passover feast.
If the above is correct and we know the age of JC when he was crucified then we should be able to calculate the exact date for Good Friday and therefore hold Easter on that date every year.
14 hours ago, Stuart.C said:Easter is linked to the Moon , vernal equinox it was the only way of recording the actual time of the event.
Strange that we were able to come up with an exact date for his birth?
