    The old oil cans where you tipped the can pressed the bottom to lubricate things like bicycle chains and the pedal crank when they had a lubricator on them.

    Still got one, like the little one on the left and it is still used to oil bike chains, gate hinges, mower linkages etc.

  2. Good away win against fellow promotion hopefuls Brentford now leaves them two points off an automatic promotion spot, A couple of difficult games coming up, home against Leeds and away to WBA. A couple of games that may just make a difference to the outcome of their promotion hopes.

    "Come on you Reds"

    Sadly The Stags continue their slide towards the relegation position.

  3. Ah yes, the dreaded ferrous oxide weevil. It manifested itself around the top of the struts, side sills, bottom of doors, front and rear sub frames, in boots and bonnets, and around windows, in the wings, in fact everywhere. I cannot believe that the auto manufacturers did not know how to cure it. I suppose as everything it all comes down to cost.

  4. Yes it was Brew, one lobe of the single camshaft operated two valves. The inlet valve was operated directly by the cam and the exhaust valve by a rocker arm off the same lobe. Revolutionary in its day. There were 4 valves per cylinder in the 1998 cc motor.

    As with many cars of the era it had a cast iron block and an aluminium head and unless a rust inhibitor was used corrosion led to blocked radiators, overheating and ultimately a blown head gasket.

  5. Yes Waddo understeer was a major problem although I understand that they improved this in later versions. Although beefed up on the sixes the suspension did not handle Australian road conditions that well.

    According to my specifications manual the Dolomite Sprint clocked 0-60 in 8.4 seconds

  6. The much maligned Morris Marina was also built here at Zetland in the south eastern suburbs of Sydney. Starting in 1972 with 1.5 and 1.75 litre engines. The cars came in CKD kits and used many local components

    In 1973 the Morris badge was replaced with a Leyland badge and in 1974 a six cylinder version of 2.6 litres that could do 0-60 mph in under nine seconds.

    When production ceased in 1975 just over 30,000 had been manufactured.

    What about chitterlings or testicles

    OK I'll admit to having to look up chitterlings

    A definite no to both of those

  10. It is going to be a bl**dy awful two weeks here.

    Week 1.  The Tour Down Under. A cycle race that takes competitors around the metro and near country areas of Adelaide. The real problem it brings out MAMIL's (Middle aged men in lycra) who try and emulate the pros by riding the routes a few days in advance. They clog up the roads and the local coffee shops ordering their Grande, double shot skinny latte made from Tibetan yak milk, garnished with orange peel and cinnamon with a shot of hazelnut syrup. If they continue to ignore all road rules, stop/give way signs and traffic lights I might well have a new mascot on the front of the car by the end of the week.

    Week 1 and 2. The Australian Open Tennis. Surely the only sport that takes 9 or 11 officials to judge a game between two or four players where most of the time nothing is happening. The incessant grunting by mostly female players with names like Martina Gruntlikova and Anna Gruntlaudavitch when hitting the ball. Spoilt brats of players who regularly abuse officials. The governing body of the sport should get some new balls and disqualify them, and for repeated offences ban them from the game.

    Woke up late this morning. My daughter sent me a message to ask if Id heard or felt the earthquake.

    The local media is reporting a serious earthquake of magnitude 5 in Bullwell last night, apparently it caused 20 million pounds worth of improvements

  12. I do wish that nothing bad befalls them, but sorry I just don't care where they go and how they get there and what they do afterwards. I am sick of seeing "stories" most, I suggest, made up about them,  even in our media.

    Brexit was/is far more important than Megxit.

    They might all become ten pound poms and move in next door to you.

    I doubt it Loppy as we have a points based immigration system, I think Boris is planning one for the UK too and these are the criteria

    •
    • English language - you should have sufficient ability in the English language to work in Australia (at least at a competent level);
    •
    • Nominated occupation - when you apply you nominate a skilled occupation, which fits your skills and qualifications. This occupation must be found on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List;
    •
    • Skills assessment - before you apply, you must have your skills assessed by the Australian assessing authority designated to assess your nominated occupation (which will usually have specific qualifications requirements);
    •
    • Health assessment - you should be of reasonably good health and all applicants must have their health assessed by a panel doctor and undergo a medical examination; and
    •
    • Character assessment - you should be of good character and this too will be assessed.

  13. The landlord of the Aidensfield Arms has finally called time.

    Bernard, Jim and Sir Humphrey are up there now telling God how to run heaven properly.

    A long career that included cameo's in many shows. His skill will live on as these timeless classics are re-run.

    Thank you Derek
