Whilst on the subject of cars, I've just washed mine.
I want one of those cars like they have on the TV ads. Driving up the mountain they go through streams, dirt roads and muddy tracks but when they get to the top of the mountain and the camera pulls back to see the view with the car in the shot it is absolutely spotless.

I should have said RUMMICUBS
Doesn't matter that you got it wrong, I've never heard of that one either.
Looked it up and it seems it is a cross between rummy and mah-jong.

I notice with dismay that yet again the shirt sponsor of the Reds is a gambling company "Football Index"
Looking further I found that in the Championship 17 of the 24 clubs have gambling sponsors.
In the Premier league 10 of the twenty clubs are sponsored by gambling outlets.
I wonder what this is doing to distort young fans minds allowing them to see gambling as the norm.
Only one of the sponsors of Premier league clubs is owned by a UK registered corporation.
An Australian owned finance/stock trading company sponsors Sheffield United to the tune of 3.5 million pounds.

I think it was a bigger motor than those two Oz
Just possible it could have been a 186 cu in, 3.049 litre or a 202 cu in of 3,298 litres
To be one of the larger motors it would have been from around mid 70's until 1980
For some reason the Stromberg or Bendix/Stromberg carby's were often subject to leaks or blocked jets but as you say easy to fix by the side of the road.

play rummikins and scrabble.
What is rummikins? I have never heard of it. I googled it and nothing much came up to explain it other than a game with tiles.

I used to have a Holden station wagon when I first moved to Oz
Ayup, would that have been the "red motor" either a 149 cu in. 2.45 litres or the 179 cu in. 2.95 litres?
That motor was practically indestructible it and its derivatives was used from 1963 until 1980 simple to work on and maintain.
The "three on a tree" linkage had its fair share of problems.

Don't know if Robin wore tights but he Maid Marian
Didn't Patricia Driscoll play Maid Marian? I remember her from Picture Book.
She is still alive aged 91

Most cars here are automatic, not that often you see a manual gearbox.
Just taken delivery of a new car, an auto with a CVT which if you use in manual mode has ten "fixed" ratios.
There are 19 buttons on the steering wheel?
When in cruise control it has radar controlled autonomous braking and lane guidance which gently steers you back into the centre of the lane if you start to drift out. When on high beam the headlights can dip automatically when it senses another cars lights coming towards you.
The forward facing cameras can identify road speed limit signs and warn you if you are speeding. I do like the blind spot monitoring in the wing mirrors, very useful. However the bloody thing is always beeping at you or chastising you if you go too fast or drive for too long and warning you about something or other that you don't really care about. The manual for the command module is 3/4 in thick and the car even has apps?
What it really needs is a really large STFU button that negates the need to read the manual to learn how to turn things off.

I'm sure it will get back to cricket eventually!
I can't wait for the ashes, watch 'til lunch on the box and then fall asleep with it on the radio.

I believe auto stop start is now a requirement on all new build cars and has been around for some time.
Given that the starter motor was used once for each journey and now theoretically can be used many tens of times during a congested journey. How long is the starter motor and ring gear going to last. I think I can see a few warranty claims on the horizon

Two brilliant efforts by the Kiwis in the semi and now the final. The game played in the way it should be. England won but the overall winner was the game itself. It did not finish 'til around 4:00am Monday local time here. A quick kip, breakfast and then a slow snoozy day here.

So if anyone can throw any light on the 'Robin Hood C.C.' and could put me in with anybody connected to it
There are a number of cycling clubs in North Notts that may be able to help. North Notts Olympic and Mansfield Aces were active at that time and someone from Mansfield Road Club or the Sherwood Cycling Club nearer the city might be able to help.

What years? The Leader of the Opposition went there. PM if you like

Yes RB that is strange but for some reason they don't think it gets cold in winter here or hot in Melbourne in summer. Ducted reverse cycle air fixes most problems but you have got to keep an eye on the running costs.

I just gently pick (any size) spiders up and carry them in my closed cupped hands outside.
You would not try that here Margie. Until around the late 70's we did not have an antivenin and the bite from a funnel web spider invariably resulted in death. The White Tip Spider can often cause severe damage to the skin and flesh and not to forget the good old Redback in the outdoor dunny. On this photo of the Funnel Web you can quite clearly see the fangs and they can be aggressive little bu**ers.
Here is the song to remind you of the Redback Spider Many a bloke was traumatised

The funniest series of books that I have ever read are the "war memoires" of Spike Milligan. The series began with "Adolf Hitler My Part in His Downfall"
Absolutely hilarious. The "Leader of the Opposition" banned me from reading them in bed.

Beinn Dearg summite cairn looking at Beinn Eighe:
Brilliant photos Compo thanks for posting. I particularly like the one with SWMBO on it with the two rivers that flow into the lake or is it loch? A person in the frame gives you an idea of the scale.
When I used to fell walk and climb in the late 60's and early 70's it was the custom to add another stone to a summit cairn when you reached the top, is it still done? or have all the local stones been used up and you have to take one up.

I’d be really angry if the removal company had lost our chairs when we moved house
We spent the first 9 months of our time in OZ with two bean bags, a cheap table/chairs, a TV, a fridge and a bed, as the company that was shipping our furniture went bust and we had to pay again and wait for our stuff to get here. When we eventually got our stuff two of the dining chairs were damaged and had to be repaired.

Hi Radford Boy, my wife and I are 10 pound poms too.
Having worked in the automotive supply chain in Oz for 40 years I know Melbourne quite well and managed a company in Ringwood for a while.
I won't make the usual jokes about the weather in Melbourne but there are some days when it is not too different to Blackburn in the UK.
It was easy to make the decision as we had family downunder. I was ready for a change and the timing was right as at the time I could only see the UK going down hill.
I know this is not a political thread but given what is happening to the fabric of the UK over Brexit and other issues over the years I am glad we made the move.

Hi kj792 From you interests I'd guess that you are in either NSW or Qld but it doesn't really matter, another Nottstalgian in Oz to add to the gang downunder. Welcome

I honestly can't remember the last time I wrote a letter it must have been decades ago.
I have absolutely no idea what a stamp costs.
My mum and dad both had copperplate handwriting even late in life, whereas mine has got steadily worse over the years so like DJ360 it would be better written on a keyboard
