  1. I was the same as Cliff Ton really easy to book in and second appointment was also made at same time. At centre the girl at the desk I was sent to took some details, then a nurse came and spoke to me, both asked if I still wanted to go ahead with the jab, then the person giving the jab came and it was done. Pfizer so had to go to another room and sit for 10/15 minutes to make sure I was okay and then home.
The person giving the jab looked like a nurse but I must say it was quite painful think she needed more practice. No particular side effects except for an aching arm.
It was all very efficient and quick. Great respect for all those volunteers making it so.

  2. Loved when he did Formula 1 and his “Murrayisms”.  I can remember when Nigel Mansell had a big lump on his forehead and he was pointing it out and ended up jabbing it with his finger. Priceless.

  3. Happy memories? She told me that long hair was dirty. Told me mum what she said, mum was suitably unimpressed and threatened retribution!

Can you remember when she complained to Peake about us and he used to stand outside the classroom door watching us? Someone put a note in the register which said snitch. I can remember the lad who did it, was his surname Hook?

  4. I don’t walk around thinking I am going to get attacked at any moment just try not to put myself in a position where I might be vulnerable. When I was in my teens it wasn’t a thing I even thought about, at that age you think you are  invulnerable, but even then there were things you just instinctively wouldn’t do.
Think it first really hit home when the Yorkshire Ripper was at large. I lived in Doncaster then and had gone out with a group of girls from work, there was one that lived near me and she asked me to share a taxi with her as we would be late home. I said okay and she said better safe than sorry because of the current situation, I must say I had never really thought about it before then it was just something you read about in the papers.
Brew asked if the fear has always been there. I wouldn’t say it is exactly fear, it’s not something that is on your mind 24/7. But at certain times you try not to put yourself in what could be a bad situation. I don’t think that every male is going to be an attacker but do sometimes have a “creep radar“ which makes me more wary. Perhaps being on my own now makes it more prominent I don’t know.
I think Annswabey is right it is just a thing women get to know and take the necessary action usually without thinking about it.

  5. Gentlemen whilst it is a rather an over the top idea from a female point of view I can understand where she is coming from. I have also seen, can’t remember where and which country it pertained to a suggestion women should have a curfew in the evening so they don’t entice men to attack them!
So let’s look at this from a female point of view.

    1) We have to be careful what we wear especially as it can be seen as provocative (by males) as it can give the impression we are “fair game” although to us it is just fashionable.

    2) Be careful how much you drink or ditto the above.

    3) When you are out alone always be aware of your surroundings and people around you.

    4) When out, especially at night, try and keep to main roads, avoid badly lit streets, short cuts through parks etc. and, again, ditto no 3 or stay in a crowd.

    5) Be careful about taxis, make sure it is a reputable firm and do not flag one down on the street.

    6) When out walking your dog on your own try and go where there will be other people about as well. The bigger dog you have the better!!

No doubt there are other things I could add but these will suffice as an example.

It must be nice to be a male and not have to worry about these things, take the short cut thru the park without having to worry about it etc. but we ladies have to be aware of these things. We shouldn’t have to but we do.

I have had an old key safe on the door to my side room tampered with last week. Someone forced it and took the insides with them obviously thinking there was a key in it, which there wasn’t. I have spent a few nervous nights since them, I have barricaded the door so they can’t get in, although if they do there is still another locked door to get through, wondering if they know I am on my own especially since I lost my boys. Would you be as anxious about it as me?

We deserve the right to be able to go where we want when we want, dress how we like and get drunk if we want without being judged or harassed by anyone. So although the curfew proposed is, from your point of view, over the top I can see where it is coming from.

Perhaps you should all have ankle tags so we can keep track of you or all ladies should learn karate:huh:

  6. I went to BGS with Stephen Blatherwick, he joined the police force from what I can remember, his older brother was in the 6th form as well. Also Raymond Wheat was in my class. Knew a Margaret Buxton, she had a sister whose name I can’t remember. My mum knew. Mrs Reville as well can remember her name being mentioned.
Hey BK wonder how many times I travelled on your 56 or 60 bus when I was going into Nottingham for work or going to the pubs/clubs.

  7. I can vaguely remember a Brenda Thompson from Glenbrook Girls Junior. Also knew a Chambers family with a lad called Mick but they lived on Huxley Close  for a while before they moved to Bulwell I think. There was also a Tommy, Beryl, Hilda and Margaret in the family. There was an older brother but can’t remember his name and a younger brother who was called Terrence I think.

  8. My mums was 109067 and they used to put it thru on the tills with sliding handle thingies (technical term) on the top of the till. I can remember going somewhere in town and queuing so she could withdraw it. Was it possibly at the big Co-op in town?

You have a plastic card now BK that they swipe through the till.

  9. Last night I put a deposit on Ripley (named after the heroine in the Alien films although he is a boy - hope this doesn’t give him gender issues!!) who is a 2 day old black cockapoo. He weighs in at a hefty 380gms at the moment. It was a bit of a hairy moment as it was done by bank transfer and I  had never done it before, had visions of the money disappearing into the banking system never to be seen again, but it arrived safely and I got a receipt in my email. If for any reason I decide I don’t want him (very unlikely) then I will get my deposit back when the pup is resold which is fair enough, a lot do non-refundable deposits.
I was a bit hesitant about doing this as normally you would go and see a litter when they were running about but there is no chance of that at the moment with the insane demand for puppies so have taken the plunge. I have been in contact with the seller who is licensed and has sent me videos and  pictures of mum and dad before she gave birth and have received the same of the pups over the past couple of days.
I have noticed that over the last couple of weeks the prices of puppies are going up, average seems about £3,000 now with some £4,000 or more which just seems crazy. The amount I am paying is eye watering but nowhere near that and below the budget that I set by £250 which will pay for his first couple of vet visits and the other things I have already brought. No doubt there will be something I have forgotten, it is over 10 years since I had a puppy.
Just waiting for the restrictions to be lifted so I can get to actually see him in the flesh and have a cuddle. Then he will be coming home on the 24th April, the day after my 2nd jab and the house, no doubt, will be in chaos for the next few weeks. Can’t wait:)

  10. 11 hours ago, AfferGorritt said:

Saw (again) on the midlands news that in Leicester takeup of the vaccine amongst the asian and black communities is considerably lower than amongst the white population.

Explains why they are continually around the top of the “league” table of cases and not coming down much.

  11. I got £4 working in Boots offices on Station Street where I trained as an audio typist which was the new thing in the 60’s. I was there for a year but hated it, got fed up of being told how good Boots were and the supervisor of our typing pool (do they still have them?) was a b***h so I left and went to Cavendish-Woodhouse for the princely sum of £4/10/0!

  12. The poodle mix means they don’t shed hair apparently so are okay for people with allergies I am actually allergic to dog hair, it was always bad when my two boys were moulting but my spray and tablets controlled it and they were worth the occasional sneeze and sniffle.

Don't mind a dog or bitch, aren’t bitches supposed to be more faithful, just will have whichever one picks me.

We went for a walk the other day, headed towards Wollaton Hall via Old Coach Road and had a wander around a newish estate that has been built. Found some more dog walking paths around there with woods and fields so he/she will have plenty of different walks besides bluebell woods to explore with us. We have been going to Bramcote Hills Park as well, there are no end of people with dogs there it is like a dog park. It does feel strange going for a walk without a dog along with us.
I do miss my boys especially with the lockdown but am looking forward to having another companion although he/she will never replace them. I must say of all the dogs my husband and I had they are the ones that just took my heart the most.

  13. I haven’t seen my monster spider for a long while BK, don’t know if she is still hanging around somewhere in one of the sheds in the side room. I do have a more normal sized one that keeps appearing occasionally on the wall of that room but we are ignoring each other at the moment.

I have never had a cage before, not that keen on them to be honest but it will only be used for him/her at night and when I have to go out. The rest of the time he/she will have the run of the house and garden. I will leave the door open on it whilst I am in so the pup can go in and out of it if it wants. As he/she gets bigger It won’t be used unless they want to.
It’s been such a long time since I had a puppy, when we got my two boys my husband was here, so it will be the first time I have done the training by myself. Fills me with a bit of trepidation as I can be a bit of a softie, just wish the puppy training classes were running at the pet shop at Wollaton but there is stuff on the internet to help. I have looked up the breed on the internet, it says they are intelligent and very easy to train (we will see) but can suffer from separation anxiety (but then so do other breeds). Just hope I don’t get a howler!!!
