Beachbum 68
At Chandos in 62' four of us caught smoking by a prefect, we just knew what was coming the next morning at assembly, wearing two or three pair of shorts under our trousers, (they didn't help) we sat there waiting, the office door opened and those assembled parted like the red sea, Mr Marsh strode down the aisle, cane in hand, he said," the boys know who they are, come to the front", we got of lightly, just two strokes. Commo 1,292
BHGS involved detentions which,as mentioned elsewhere was a problem for those of us who lived a long way from school, and if the bas##rd games teacher Watson was involved it was a cross country run. What fun (not). Junior school was bad, Ruddington Endowed Boys, as most teachers were trained by the Japanese during WW 2. In Std 4 we had a mental arithmetic test every Friday and if you got less than 5 out of 10 the plimsoll was applied to your bum, but more humiliating was that it was administered by the kid who got 10, and if it was one of your friends, the severity of the whack was monitored and if it was perceived to have been held back, the teacher, Jack Hall would take over and both kids would get it! hippo girl 1,995
Commo, did Watson the cross country fiend teach geography at BHGS ?
Commo 1,292
H/Girl, Willie Watson was just the games teacher, I don't think he had any academic ability whatsoever.I detested him.
Commo 1,292
H/Girl, are you perhaps thinking of Mr Cunnington? He was geog with a penchant for playing rugby and I liked him only slightly more than Watson.
hippo girl 1,995
A senior moment Commo, thought he taught geography as well as games......Cunnington I remember was geography but not as rugby.....
benjamin1945 16,225
GOT the strap on a regular basis at Padstow,I once got it for laughing at the drama teacher who was reciting shakespeare on the stage,he had a real passion for it,and in the middle of his rendering he fell off the stage on to the piano before breaking wind and landing on the floor, next to me.
