Jadire 0
Hello, Would anyone know if there is a map available showing 5, Melsonby Place off Malt Mill Lane in March 1893? My 2nd great grandmother died there and I’m trying to find out if it was a private residence. Any help would be very much appreciated. Take care Jayne
Cliff Ton 10,569
Welcome to Nottstsalgia Jayne. 5 Melsonby Place would've been a classic back-to-back terrace; almost certainly a private residence but owned by a landlord, and rented by your gg-grandmother. This shows where it was. The road horizontally across the top is Narrow Marsh / Red Lion Street The map is before the railway was built through the area, and Melsonby would've been right in the firing line, so it may or may not be on this photo, approximately at the arrow.
Jill Sparrow 10,417
Love the street names. Pear Street, Currant Street, Peach Street. Don't you wish you had a time machine?
Cliff Ton 10,569
The names are picturesque, but I wouldn't have wanted to live there. The council ran through a whole collection of fruit when they were naming the area....but look at the one at the top. Now we know where Ben was born.
Jill Sparrow 10,417
Indeed...and he's caught many in Marsden's! Possibly courted many there too!

Cliff Ton 10,569
I suppose I can't really put a 'like' on it ... Unfortunately, the person who posted the original question hasn't yet returned to Nottstalgia to see the replies. 2
