That probably would be `Coopers' a family owned brewery in Adelaide, now a huge concern,-several of the really big boys have had a go at aquiring it,without success. The main shareholder is quite interesting. His dad told him there was no future in brewing and to get a proper job!

He attende d Medical school in Adelaide, trained to be a specialist in UK,-lots of qualifications, then thought he would like to join his father so did a MSc in wine/beer making science in UK. He is on the way to becoming a billionairedue to his shareholdings. My son likes his own brew(Dr. Tim`s-after

Tim Cooper) ;)

...thanks for the info Limey, I and my sons will certainly give it a try and let you know how it is today.

You would not recognise Port Adelaide now. All the great and good are moving there and buying million dollar properties being built. Some of the old port still stands. thumbsup

One thing I liked about the chip shops in OZ and NZ was the way they would cook your food fresh when you ordered it. None of this cook it in bulk then keep it warm till someone buys it.

"Ready to order Mate?"

"Thank you Bruce...I'll start with 4 Oysters Kilpatrick, then a Medium Beef Oscar.

Won't be able to speak by then so I'll have Sticky Date Pudding for sweet, washed down with a bottle of Peter Rumball Sparkling Shiraz"

"Right Mate, would you like an ambulance to follow the sweet?"

"Yes please Bruce, many thanks, will they allow my unemptied Shiraz bottle on board?"

"Too right Mate, they'll help you finish it.............."

Cheers

Stan: I will be interested to hear the results of your trip! I was there about 15 years ago and clearly at that point Port Adelaide was on the verge of "taking off". On our second trip, we stayed in Brighton which was the "happening" place at the time!

There was a bakery/restaurant in Port Adelaide run by a Frenchman and he would make breakfast for us (breakfast places were hard to find). We went there one evening for dinner as he agreed to cook Kangaroo for us - it was delicious!

I enjoyed Adelaide - bought a gold pin there for my (then) lady friend - it was a gold manta ray with an opel on it - an "Opel Manta"! We found it a great city - and very friendly folks - maybe I'll go back one day!

Quite a coincidence! We have just purchased a house at Brighon to retire to. If you are in Brighton again you will be most welcome. Also have booked at the pub you recommended for my birthday next week. Where did you say I had to send you the bill? !rotfl!

Just got back from my jollies in Cornwall and have to add to this

Whilst I was there I got in a spot of sea fishing and amongst other things I caught the first Black Sea Bream to come out of Newquay this season ( about 3 1/2 pounds!!!) When I got back to where we were staying I collared the chef and asked him to cook it for me.He duly obliged and seved it up with a delicious creamy tarragon sauce and game chips ,the best Fish and Chips i've ever had !!!

  • 1 year later...

Yes, have to agree...went a fortnight back, excellent.

Even better carvery value is the revamped Muston Gap, just beyond Bottesford - get there early!

One to avoid 'like the plague' is the carvery on the Colwick Loop Road. Normal procedure is try serving previously rejected meat on a saucer size plate, followed by overcooked vegetables and insipid gravy. Otherwise...

Cheers
