One in particular 'Dance to the Music' I remember being blasted out at one of those BAR B Q's that were around at the time, it was situated at Colwick Hall, and the disc jockey was Stuart Henry, one of my favourites at that era.

whatever happened to BAR B Q's btw? perhaps they need re-inventing!

I was living in the Medders when that lot were about. 1968 I was 21, finished my apprenticeship with the NCB at Cotgrave just after Clifton had closed. Used to work part time for Barry Price as his head barman at The Sir Richard Arkwright on Arkwright Street.

Left Cotgrave Colliery November of 68 to work for J.Jones Rewinds up Daleside Road.

Met my first wife about December of 1968..... Lots happened to me that year. Recall 99% of the songs, have most on CD's.

  • 2 months later...

Sittin on the front doorstep of 168 Waterway Street, listening to a new record called 'Good Vibrations' being played on Radio One with my left ear and the methodically measured crashes of members of the victorious away darts team being thrown clean through the 6ft plate glass windows of 'The Griffin' public house with the right ear.

Whoever was up first on Saturday and Sunday mornings in those days would then always get out and follow the trails of blood around Waterway and Lammas to get the best pick of all the dropped change from the pockets of the combatants.

We got to see the debut outing of Nottingham's first panda cars there.

No wonder the Brits are the calmest under fire.
