Armstrong's Mill

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if the old textile mill in Ilkeston called Armstrong's Mill had a name before the JB Armstrong company moved in? Or has it always been called that and is there a tie up between the company and the original owner?

Didnt Armstrongs Mill start on Ilkeston Road/Norton Street?

Was it J.B.Armstrong?

The mill is listed as a 'hosiery mill' in old maps, and a hosiery manufacturer for Ilkeston Junction is listed in Kelly's as JB Lewis & Sons Ltd.

Very interesting... and it looks as though the JB Lewis you mention went on to become Meridien...

I used to work there in the 80s, even fell down those stairs and broke my arm oops. The JB stood for James Barry and remember it was owned by a suave gentlemen and a bit of an idiot son called Keiron Armstrong who was the manager.
