mick2me 3,033
Some very interesting pictures, thanks Ash The foden Garage looks brand new and purpose built with chimneys for the extraction of smoke. I bet the place was in a bit of a state after it had been in use for a while.
Cliff Ton 10,488
You forget how common a sight Shippos lorries were around Nottingham. And if you keep going through that Flickr collection, there are some fascinating old family/portrait pictures of people from Ilkeston & Nottingham
mick2me 3,033
Shippos lorries yes, 'Eddie Stobarts' of the day... but Foden! How old der yer think I am
Ashley 288
I assume Shippo's went from horse drawn drays to steam lorries then petrol/diesel ones, not surprising really as a hell of a pull for horses to at least one pub they had in Skegness! however of course they kept some horse power, Looks like they had quite a fleet of those Foden Steamers? wonder if any survived? and what MPB (miles per bucket) they did? Limey 242
You can still get Foden trucks - but they are owned by PACCAR - the same people that build Peterbilt and Kenworth here in the States. - They also own the brand names for Leyland and DAF!
