  1. That's a fascinating clip. Spent many hours as a kid watching the trains go over that bridge on Haydn Road - we used to get chased off the platform by the station master who obviously didn't want children littering the place.
  2. Thanks for that. Page 4 of the April 2008 contains an interesting article on some of the older (and lost) pubs of Nottingham.
  3. Slightly off topic but the new Elvis Costello album is being (or has been) released on vinyl only.
  4. That's a comprehensive list! Some of those are new to me - amongst those I've never come across are the Little John and the Lounge Picture Theatre. Fascinating list.
  5. The front part of the building, the really modern bit, became Stumps - they were like Meridian further down the road and manufactured clothing - used to pass it every day on my way to Haydn Road School. From the photograph it looks like the older part may be separate premises - there is one entrance on Haydn Rd and one on Cameron Street.
  6. In that case I do go in there occasionally, it was a handy little venue when you lived in the Vic Centre. We sometimes used to meet up there on a Saturday night, they also used to put bands on occasionally.
  7. Used to go swimming there. It also used to be home to Northern Swimming Club.
  8. I wish they'd do something with 41 Pilcher Gate - it's been boarded up for years and would be stunning if restored.
  9. Which road was this on? The only Empire I remember is the pub that was on Mansfield Road, which has also been demolished.
  10. Sounds just like my old school, Claremont - that also had a reputation for being rough.
  11. Athlete are pretty good, they did have a number 1 album a couple of years ago.
  12. There was also an independent cinema on Carlton Street - Midland Group seems to ring a bell.
  13. It was Walton House on the corner of St James Street / Maid Marian Way - now a hotel with, I'm led to believe, a swimming pool in what was the car park. The hotel opposite was the Albany - no idea what its called now.
  14. I didn't go there but vaguely remember the building but not the exact location, anybody know what's on the site now?
  15. I'm pretty certain the building is still there but it's just an empty shell - the new IBIS Hotel and associated offices go right up to it.
  16. Of the pubs you've listed, the QE is closed and has been for a long while, the Lion is an amusement arcade and the Princess/Parliament is a sandwich place - Langtry's is still going strong and I still head there prior to any concerts at the Concert Hall / Rock City.
  17. Used to go to the Metropole quite a bit as a kid - Saturday matinees and, to me, they always seemed busy. As I got older I still visited but less often as the likes of the Odeon and the ABC seemed to have the better films. After the Metropole closed we tended to use the Futurist when we didn't fancy going into the city, normally followed by a quick pint at the Fox. The Metropole building was demolished last year - a Somerfield store is now on the site.
  18. It's good news - lucky perhaps but it still counts. I didn't expect it.
  19. Still in Nottingham, in fact still in Sherwood - now married with 2 daughters and patiently waiting for the day when I no longer need to work (don't think I'm alone on that one!). Discarded by BT after 35 years I now work for a small company in the Lace Market. Still heavily into music and photography. Dixons seems so long ago, my first ever job - the year of the miners strike and power cuts! To be honest, I don't think I'd recognise Kerry, Phil and the others.
  20. !clapping! Aye-up mate - long time since those days on King Street.........
  21. It got demolished and then re-built. Towards the end of it's life it had become a bit down trodden and dare I suggest, one to avoid.
  22. Never went to the Dungeon - I think that was closed by the time I looked old enough to go in! My particular haunts, early 70's onwards, were The Boat and The Gosvenor plus the usual pub crawl stops of the Flying Horse, Mortimers etc. Also went to the Sandpiper occassionally.
  23. Of all the stations that came from the Mi Amigo, I've always liked Radio Seagull - still broadcasting from a boat. http://www.radioseagull.com/ Can sometimes be picked up on 1602MW but the net feed is good. Now back to the Dungeon........
  24. Just a quick note for Pete C - Andy Archer has a great site which features his offshore days, http://www.adroberts.net/andy/ Last I heard he was on Radio Norwich. Tony Allen passed away a couple of years ago.
  25. I'd read somewhere that the final scene was shot in Wembley, they just added a few local builders signs - that might be right because I don't recognise the hill they're on. The following might help, http://www.britmovie.co.uk/forums/location...g-location.html
