  1. Any chance of some nice grey socks for chrimbo Gert - size 8? And if you've got time a nice blue willy warmer - size XXX wouldn't go amiss as winters coming on early this year
  2. Shippo's Mild - Used to think it was a girlies drink until I started mixing it with the bitter on the odd occasion when we used to visit other shippo's pubs on darts nights. Of course, I only mixed it when the bitter was not kept well by mein host - don't want you thinking I'm some sort of wuss who can't take straight Shippo's Bitter (even if you did suffer in the little room after ). Had a short period of drinking mixed (maybe 2 years) right up to the time Shippo's was bought out by that Midlands Company (Wolverhampton Brewery???)
  3. We must 'av been posh 'cos we ad black ones. Used to wear it on me paper round. B)
  4. Speaking to the other 'arf. Mentioned about how we used to have to go down to the wool shop to fetch Mum (bless her soul) a few bundles of the wool she had put aside so she could finish the latest knitting project. (yes, I did have to wear some of them ) Looking around, we notice that knitting seems to be a dying art - so to speak. Only one of our 'younger' generation in the family seems to knit whereas years ago, every time someone was pregnant the old knitting needles used to come out to make the booties and bonnets. Or Christmas presents Is it a dying pastime? Is it cheaper for the
  5. Tamworth Road has a small pedestrian arch at the side and it's still standing
  6. I've got some great pictures of the flats during demolition but they are on Cibachrome (slides) so I don't know how to post them. Looks like I went to William Crane after you lot !tanning! I was 1963 to 1967, leaving before taking the GCSE's as we needed the money. I recall the lad on Sherbourne that lived next to the Co-OP but can't for the life of me remember his name. Went out with a gal on Allendale - Wendy Peach, and others from around the area. Had a few illicit beers in the Offey at the Beacon and the Cocked hat (now flats/houses) Teachers at the Boys school from memory were: He
  7. Happy Birthday from me tooooo. Hope you have a HANGOVER tomorrow
  8. The old VIC or Lecano is now the GALA Bingo club - so the other half says. One of 3 in Nottingham and 280 nationwide (I do a lot of work for them) The wife's brother was the Manager at the Brittania Bernie Inn for a while in the 70's. Since knocked down and turned into a new high rise accomodation complex.
  9. Sorry it's a late response but being a newbie, i'm viewing old threads on a regular basis to catch up. Looks like we've crossed paths in the past then Mick as I used to visit the Slipper above the Co-oP in the early 70's - despite being married at the time As they say, small world.
  10. Geez With all that booze I'll have a mega hangover tomorrow Many thanks for the best wishes. I feel like family already. Just don't ask me how old I am as I can turn Nasty !laughing!
  11. No Mick - that was a good few years previous. I remember catching the trolley bus down to the terminus on Berridge Road and then having to transfer to a 'normal' Bus for the final leg of the journey I also remember getting my first pair of long trousers in 1963
  12. I'm not sure at what time, but the terminus for the 16,16A,32 and 62 was moved to Maid Marion Way from Chapel Bar/Granby Street. When I was courting - many moons ago - I always used to catch the last bus home to Bradfield Road from there and not Chapel bar. Late '68/69. Around that time the new buses were also being introduced where you used to board via the front doors (as you do nowadays) and not the open back.
  13. Sorry, try this one http://www.imageresizer.com/
  14. Granby Street rings a bell but I can't place it? Did a search on http://local.live.com/ but it failed to find Granby St. Give us a clue then
  15. If you want a free Image Resizing program have a look here. A friend of mine in Israel posted me the link and I've been using it with success for quite some http://www.mihov.com/eng/ir.htmlime.
  16. I agree, Bluecote School looking from Aspley Lane outside of the Players Social Club - now David Lloyd Fitness If I'm not mistaken, that's the number 16 bus as well on it's way to maid Marion Way
  17. Nice site - that JOHN47 seems to be popular can anyone who is intending to be an ex-pat soon post? and join in the active discussions? Meduks
  18. Yeah - started off in Carlton near the First Frame Snooker club then bought/rented a place on the corner of Little Tennis Street. When the Co-op "outsourced" the fridge side the lads all left and started up on their own and really carried on as they always did - working for the Co-op I don't know where it all went wrong but in hindsight, non of the lads were businessmen and when the Co-op work dried up - well you can guess
  19. Ay, now com'on seeing topless barmaids is ok when they haven't reached 30 But I draw the line when tha nippl's are nearing the 'nee's B)
  20. Small World eh Mick Pete lost both legs and was confined to a wheelchair but it didn't damp his spirits. When they set up RGR Refrigeration he handled the office side while Mick and Simon did the site work. They did some sub-contracting for me in the early 90's. Simon's some relation to my brother in law
  21. I know some of the lads that were there, Pete Robinson, now passed on bless his sole, Mick Greenwood, Simon Redgate. The started up their own company later on when the co-op changed tactics.
  22. Got to ask Mick - after Shippo's did you spend a lot of time in the 'little room' ?
  23. Me too Mick. Member of CAMRA. Love nothing more than a good hand pull (sorry) hand pulled keg bitter at 12 deg C. mmmmmmmmmmmm The only beer I like cloudy is Wheat Beer !cheers!
