  1. My day just got better. Just logged in without the need for any VPN nonsense. Somebody somewhere must have fixed something. Whoever it was.. Thank you!!
  2. I have just logged in without the aid of a VPN. I claim a miracle... :)
  3. Yebbut.. I can get on here with my phone. I can get Freeview. I still have a TV aerial on the roof with a booster amp in the loft feeding three bedrooms and the lounge. I'll always be able to find some rubbish to watch so long as they keep transmittiing to 'air'!!
  4. Don't mince your words RR. Say wot ya mean!! I've got a smart TV in the lounge. but I don't see how it would do anything other than deliver terrestrial channels without connecting to a Virgin or similar gizmo via W-Fi or ethernet? And recording? On what if I bin my Tivo/V6 OK I'm sure I could 'pair' my TV with some local unsecured wi-fi source.. like next doors except everybody round here is wise enough to have their netwrok secured.
  5. Wi-Fi Dentistry. I have an electronic Toothbrush which can connect to my phone via Wi-fi so long as I get the 'Oral B Toothbrush' app. Apparently it will tell me if I'm brushing my teeth properly... I think I'll pass on that one..
  6. Just got a new Virgin V6 box for the telly. The old Tivo box was clunky, slow and rubbish, but the V6 is much better. So this got me thinking about how to connect a TV upstairs using the old Tivo Box. No way I'm running an 'ethernet' cable upstairs so it seems the solution is to use .'Powerline'. This has been around for a while. Involves an adapter which you plug into a mains socket. You can then plug an ethernet cable into it. The signal is routed via your mains wiring. . to another 'Powerline' socket, which can be connected via Ethernet', to another device. Fa
  7. Just a few rambles on my latest adventures. I've been watching these adverts for 'Alexa' and other 'Hubs' that you can now buy to control assorted gadgets in your home. Being used to an earlier generation of technological 'convergence', I was assuming that having 'Alexa' dim the lights would involve wires everywhere. but no... The actual light bulbs are now 'smart'.. in that they have wi fi inside and can be controlled by it to dim. Flippin'eck!!! Not cheap though at about £30-50 a bulb. On bulbs. Most of my house is now lit by LED lamps. They typically claim a lif
  8. Watched a 'prog' tonight about how Canadian researchers have found John Franklin's flagship, from the ill fated mid 19th C expedition to find the North West Passage. There are many versions of this song but this is my fave. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysFKjWG_W54
  9. I watched a documentary this evening about how Sir John Franklin's Flagship from the ill fated Arctic expeditiion of 1840 summat or other, was finally found. Fascinating stuff and it reminded me of this song. There are many versions, but this is the first I heard and still my favourite. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysFKjWG_W54
  10. Welcome Sue. Where from in Bestwood? I was raised round the corner from Benjamin on the old original and genuine Bestwood Est. But my Dad's lot were 4 generations of miners at Bestwood Colliery. Hope you enjoy the site. We seem to be having a few 'software' issues at the moment and posting can be a bit erratic, but 'hang in there' I'm sure it'll all get sorted. Col
  11. This is weird. Anyway. I'd suggest downloading a 'Free VPN' I can at least get on here with one and not at all without.
  12. Can't even post with VPN now! Or at least a much longer post wouldn't send. Test. ttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
  13. While I'm on a moaning roll.. "You.. Col? .. Moaning?. Surely not?..." We have Virgin Broadband and TV. The broadband is pretty decent but the TV with the 'Tivo' box is rubbish. Very slow and clunky. 'Catch Up' services often don't work and their version of 'catch up' for BBC channels is just to connect you to iPlayer.. except it takes ten times longer than going direct via the smart TV. Trouble is Mrs Col set up the account and could never find passwords etc. She got through to somebody on the phone who was useless. Then another guy who was worse. I requested a new 'V6
  14. It affected my daughter, who uses Giff Gaff. Part of the same group as 02 I think. But she was able to use whatsapp via wi-fi to contact me. I had an 02 phone from Tesco very briefly a few years back. My first Smart Phone. The phone was one of those horrible Windows based things and and O2 just has drwadful signal round here so I took it back. Told them they'd sold it to me knowing full well where I lived and what the signal was like. They gave me a grudging full refund. Next up they tried to charge me a tenner for the calls they said I'd made while I had it. I got that back smartish
  15. I have a truly horrific pic of me and my late Sis Pam at Co-op Santa. It's too gruesome to put online. I might get banned. Then I feel half banned already what with this logging in issue.
  16. This PC has three separate user accounts. Mine, Mrs Col and an Admin one, although we all have admin 'status'. I've just asked Mrs Col to let me try logging in here using her account. She uses a different browser. I use Firefox, she uses IE. Made no difference. Still can't log on. The PC only has the one IP addressas far as I know so I'm convinced the problem is at the site end. It's not resolving my IP address or something. This all happened suddennly a couple of nights ago when I was trying to post a reply the Margie in 'What are you listening to?.'. I saw something change, my pos
  17. Hang in there Loppy! Glad things are improving. Lizzie, My bother has AF. One lot of ablation cured the atrial fibrillation, but he also has a similar condition. I think it's Atrial Flutter. It's managed with meds.
  18. I currently use Glary Utilities and Adwarecleaner. I've also been into 'Control 'and deleted all cookies etc. I've also checked all internet settings including things like DNS and so on. I have literally tried every single thing suggested by numerous friends, experts and online sources. The fact that I can log in via my phone, and also via a VPN (which in effect just presents the site with a different IP address) clearly shows that there's something about my true IP address which is either not recognised, or is 'rejected' by the site software. Non of the Admin/Mods I've contacted have be
  19. Still can't get onto here without using a VPN. It's not a good situation.
  20. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IM3weosOTY See if this works? Still seems to be 'saving' the Youtube link I tried to post above. This is all very weird... Anyway. Stuff to do. Back later.. one way or another...
  21. Well that clinches it. With the VPN disconnected I still can't log in. Dunno whether that means I'm banned or wot...?
  22. Well here's a surprise. A friend advised me to try getting a free VPN (Virtual Private Network) to see if that helped. The idea is that a VPN connects you anonymously to the site, so that if the site doesn't like you for some reason, it doesn't know it is you and therefore can't 'reject' you. Anyway, after a lot of faffing and not being even sure I've correctly installed a VPN, I just logged on as normal and.... here I am!! I shall now switch off, or disconnect the VPN to see if I can still log in..
  23. Still can't log in via PC. And now the text controls aren't properly functioning.
