  1. These days definitely. I'll probably change oil and filter again next year, but that's about the limit.
  2. Just a 'swap out' as I understand it Dave, though when I thought one of four had 'gone' on Mrs Col's car the dealer price was ludicrous. Fortunately it was something much less costly in the end.
  3. I really don't miss carburettors.
  4. I have no idea either Lizzie, but the HA ones were square and boxy... The HB ones were a bit curvier. The HC followed and as I recall morphed into the Firenza or somesuch tripe, but I'd lost interest by then and bought a Simca. More fun.. even more rust..
  5. Entirely understandable Brew. Nobody can be expected to immerse themselves in geopolitical and sociological theories and developments at the same time as learning the Highway Code. As I recall, I consciously suspended my study of the futile, yet damaging nature of successive Moral Panics as they relate to the Paranoid Style in American Politics ( Richard Hofstadter 1964) whilst boning up on Braking Distances.
  6. As you all know.. I'm not one for having the last word... ..but my second car was a HB Viva. Cost me £140 from Ormskirk Auctions. It was a very educational vehicle. I learned how to do a full cylinder head job. How to adjust valve clearances weekly. How to replace a drive shaft joint., wheel cylinders, assorted brake pipes, a water pump, brake pads and a voltage regulator which was rusted in place on the inner wing. Oh.. I also learned a lot of new swearwords. Nice gearbox though..
  7. Never, I hope. Or maybe we should be apologising to Germany for our appropriation of 'Burger' (though curiously not usually 'Hamburger') Interestng how Keith Valentine Graham, better known as Levi Roots has appropriated his own culture to change his name to something more 'ethnic' and the name of his Reggae Reggae Sauce away from its jerk seasoning origins. Sort that out
  8. Of course if everyone was really becoming a homosexual I too would be worried for our future. Thing is everyone isn't. It's just that those who are genuinely homosexual are no longer hidden, as they were for centuries previously. There is also absolutely no, none, zero, zilch evidence that homosexuals 'want everyone to be gay'.. Govt. statistics say that 1.7% of the population identify as LGTB. There is no evidence that these orientations are increasing, they are just more visible. From my perspective, there are far more dangerous, socially damaging and urgent probl
  9. A 'straight' son or daughter having a relationship with a homosexual would make them at least bi-sexual of not homosexual. They certainly wouldn't be straight. But you wrote 'Transgender', which is very different to homosexual.
  10. Mike, you're entitled to your views as expressed. I agree that 5 is far too young for children to 'choose' a gender. I don't believe in God so I also don't take anything from the bible as the literal truth. It was written and edited by men. But you have the right to your faith.
  11. How did we ever get onto the topic of Homosexuality in this thread?
  12. Full agreement with you on that Brew. But for real cultural appropriation.. check this out. The girl is Polly Brown.. the very White Caucasian former lead singer of Pickettywitch, pretending to be black in 1974.
  13. The difference of course being that homosexuality is legal. I doubt very much whether overt sexual acts in public by homosexuals or heterosexuals would be tolerated and there are many laws which could be invoked. (Public order, Breach of the Peace. etc...) Theft isn't. legal, in public or in private.
  14. The term Gay is just the latest one used to describe homosexuals. There have been many others in the past. I've actually noticed that the term 'Queer' is making a bit of a comeback among the LGTB community. So should we strike out all references to The Queen in case that confuses youngsters? Or maybe we should get somebody to remove the word queer from all printed sources? Maybe we should stop reminiscing so fondly about the Faggots we so enjoyed outside the chippy in Arkwright St? What will people think? Fairy stories should definitely b
  15. Don't think I was being disingenuous about the PC Brigade Brew. It wasn't me who introduced the term and I'm not the one complaining that the 'Brigade' (Whoever they are...) are 'stifling' free speech. I simply asked who this 'brigade' were. Nobody can tell me. You are of course correct when you say that there is no such brigade and I agree that we all to some extent allow our behaviour and utterences to be 'modified' by more enlightened social conventions, but I think there's a qualitative difference between a developing set of social norms, and plain old PC bullying. The limi
  16. Possible Fly.. Or maybe the 'P.C. Brigade' censored me.... :)
  17. I just wrote, then lost, a long reply. Some here might be relieved.. However, what I'd really like is for someone.. anyone.. to provide me with two things: 1. Evidence of any shadowy organisation which constitutes, or is behind, the 'P.C' Brigade'. 2. Anything which does not break the laws of Libel, Slander, Incitement etc., that anyone here would like to say, but feels they can't say. PM me if you like, I won't tell anyone what you said. Just because some idiotic 'P.C.Rule' is reported in the papers doesn't mean it really exists. Even if it does
  18. I'm interested to know who the PC brigade are Mike? What have they stopped you from saying?
  19. Brew, The DM knew exactly what message they were sending. This happened at the height of the wave of Tory driven 'moral panic' about 'Benefit Scroungers'. There are certainly thousands on benefits. That should be a source of shame for Govts, that so many need to claim. But, there are not 'thousands' who would sink so low as to risk their own kids to further profit from the benefits system and it has been repeatedly shown that Benefit Fraud is very low overall and much lower than Tax fraud. So 'Benefit Scrounging' is, in a real sense 'Fake News'. It's not really an issue, yet even as
  20. Under present UK law, I believe that 'free speech' is only really limited by the restriction of 'Hate Speech', 'Incitement to violence' etc., and of course Libel, Slander and Defamation laws. I think there are also restrictions based on 'National Security' (D Notices etc.) Personally, I am far more concerned about the way that certain sections of the Press can seemingly get away with complete fabrication with impunity. Classic example. When that £$%^ from Derby burned his own children to death. the DM stated unequivocally that there were 'thousands more benefit claim
  21. Just found this. Whichwhat were one of Nottm's 'top' bands in the late 1960s. We booked them into the 360 Club numerous times. They also 'covered' Gimme Gimme Good Lovin' which was a big hit for US band Crazy Elephant. I recall it getting one play on the BBC Sunday afternoon chart show. I think it was just for a change as the US version was in the Top 20 for a while. Whichwhat also did a pretty decent version of 'Why Do Lovers Break Each Other's Hearts?' which if I recall correctly was first done early 1960s by Bobb B Soxx and the Blue Jeans, but didn't chart here. When Whichwh

  23. .. ON KITES, PLANES, ROCKETS and STUFF...... ...Cont'd ... Rockets.. Two parts to this I suppose. The 'easy' bit was playing about with firework rockets. I think I've talked about this before so I won't drag it out. Basically, those firework rockets which have a 'star' or whatever, tend to shoot it out of the top . You can use this to light the fuse of a smaller rocket mounted on top. If you attach the smaller rocket with a single turn of Sellotape, this is usually blown or burned away so you get 'Separation Stage One'. The best we managed was three stages.. th
