  1. Both Notts and Mansfield seem to have lost out to poor refereeing today. Notts should have had a penalty and Barrow should have had a man sent off when Jodi Jones was scythed down as he closed in on goal. Overall it was a very frustrating game as Barrow resorted to anti football with lots of niggly stuff and time wasting which the ref let them get away with. Barrow had a very underhand tactic when they had a corner with the Notts goalkeeper being blatantly impeded at least three times all going unpunished. On balance a draw was a fair result with Notts struggling to find much fluency
  2. Hi Jill, I've been enjoying the school photos that Lesley posted and can maybe help a bit more. First photo: back row third in from left looks like Keith Brown. Third row from front seventh from left is David Jepson (directly in front of Alan Allcock) On the front row third from left is Paul Sheasby and fourth along is Jonathan Platt Second photo: Definitely not David Jepson on the back row! Front row third from left looks like Paul Sheasby. Until I read your post I didn't spot Alan Steele or Paul Sheasby. They are both on Facebook BTW.
  3. Jill, Lesley Allen (nee Webster) has posted a couple of nice school photos for Berridge on the Nottingham Lost School Friends Facebook page. I think you're a member so can view it OK. One of them features lots of my school friends at Forest Fields Grammar including Alan Allcock, David Jepson, Nicholas Clark and Keith Brown. I've only seen a dark photocopy of this class before so it's great to see the original.
  4. I think Forest had the beating of Brentford this evening but ran out of steam after their energy sapping midweek FA cup replay at Blackpool. All very unfortunate as they really need the points if a points deduction is in the pipeline. They had looked the better team until Ryan Yates went off injured but started to look tired afterwards. There's a video clip on Facebook showing Toney moving the ball just before his free kick that produced Brentford's equalizer. I didn't spot it at the time but it should have been picked up and Toney booked. Very unsporting but apparently he has a repu
  5. Oz, Seems the standard of the half time bacon rolls is going to remain unchanged. The Viking I predicted to take over at Notts is staying put and the National League's hottest property has resigned his job and is coming to Notts full-time. Maynard's appointment is very typical of the Reedtz bros. modus operandi. The departures of Ian Burchnall and Luke Williams both yielded good returns in the form of compensation payments for their services. These guys are pretty shrewd operators. They usually but not always get a decent return on their investment. Stuart Maynar
  6. An excellent win for Forest tonight on a bitterly cold night in Blackpool. A weakened Forest side were well in control at 2-0 up but then lost their composure to let Blackpool draw level and force extra time. Forest took control in extra time and grabbed the winner with 10 minutes remaining. A fitting reward for the 2000 fans who travelled from Nottingham and sung their hearts out. I hope their return journey is uneventful on a very cold winters night. Tonight's game must have taken a lot out of the Forest squad and I think they may have picked up one or two more injuries s
  7. I couldn't agree more Oz. There's a real prospect The Reds could be facing Derby again next season in the Championship. The Forest directors don't seem to come out of this with much credit and I have huge reservations about the owner particularly when you check out his record with the authorities in Greece. I guess it will all come out in the future but short term Nuno will have quite a job on his hands to keep Forest up if they are handed a points deduction. I think Notts are close to appointing their new manager. Jose Mourinho has just quit Roma but my money's on Morten
  8. Forest looked so much better last night. Nuno has put much more emphasis on attack and it's been very effective. United look a shadow of their former selves and I think Ten Hag might have to go before things improve. Gibbs- White's winner was excellent and I admire his commitment and passion but I thought he was very close to picking up a red card at one point. Turner went from zero to hero very quickly but a new goalkeeper is surely on Nuno's shopping list after United's goal. I think Mr Marinakis fired Steve Cooper just in time.
  9. Notts County were fantastic last night. They were just sublime to watch as they swept aside a tired looking Morecambe. A new midfielder has arrived from Fleetwood with probably more to come through January. It looks like the Notts blip is over and they’re starting to look really formidable. Mansfield are starting to wobble and Forest need to now beat Manchester United to show they have turned the corner after that great win on Tyneside. I still think Nuno has a real job on his hands. The owner needs to let him get on with it. There's the problem because I fear he
  10. Oz, Notts played very well last night against the league leaders. Stockport were very physical and had to defend for the majority of the game. The first goal should have been prevented but to be fair Stockport's second came from a Notts defender slipping over leading to a penalty. I was very encouraged by Notts performance and they deserved at least a point having given a very good account of themselves. If Notts can perform like that for the second half of the season they should manage the playoffs. Forest's game today is going to be very interesting. Will N
  11. Correct Jill, High sugar containing products like jam, honey and golden syrup have a low water activity and don't undergo microbial spoilage although they can go mouldy. There's plenty about water activity and food spoilage on the internet. Best before dates spook people into throwing away perfectly safe products. Use by dates are a different proposition and should be respected.
  12. I think the owner is the problem but how do you get rid of him? The Bournemouth game is going to be very telling. I think the new man is going to have all the same issues that Steve Cooper had to endure.
  13. Nuno Herlander Simões Espírito Santo You heard it here first.
  14. Notts were woeful yesterday and never seemed to get going. They have looked a totally different side to the one a few back. Palmer is badly missed and nobody in the squad seems to have the quality to replace him. I'm not looking forward to the Stockport game on Friday. Notts might spring a surprise but current form suggests they won't. I'll be hiding behind the sofa watching it just the same. Forest are in trouble. Cooper is such a nice bloke and is very popular with the fans but his tactics just aren't working. The teams below them in the table have started to pi
  15. I think Steve Cooper is a decent bloke and lots of his players (who he probably didn't sign) are taking the p**s. The great spirit in the club when Steve got them promoted has now evaporated. The expensive overpaid prima donnas are now dragging the club back into relegation territory. Do they care? Of course not. They've all got very lucrative contracts that have made them very wealthy even if they're fired today. I feel so sorry for hard working genuine players like Ryan Yeats who put in a shift every time they play. Steve Cooper has been badly let down by his players
  16. A bad day at the office for Notts and Forest this last few days. Both lost at home with worrying performances. Notts got knocked out the FA Cup with by gifting three goals to the opposition (Shrewsbury). Their defence performance was unbelievably bad. Playing out from the back has been a feature of Notts game for a while. The problem is their defence seems to lack the quality to manage it. Notts have a formidable strike force and midfield but the defence is shocking. The rumours are for two new defenders coming in in January. I bet Luke Williams is counting the days. W
  17. Phil, The good old days of community spirit.
  18. Beekay I've followed Notts since 1959 when my dad first took me. Gerry Carver was a loyal servant for Notts in the early to mid 1960s. He was an excellent captain in those dismal years. Back then Notts would only get attendances of two or three thousand it was very grim until Jimmy Sirrel arrived. I had a wretched time at school as Forest were doing very well back then in the old first division and nearly all my school chums followed them.
  19. I think the title of this thread says it all Beekay. Oz probably needs a break after Forest's recent displays. They slipped down to 15th after Fulham's late win last night. Mind you Notts didn't really get going in South London on Saturday. They went 2-0 down before half time then hauled it back to 2-2 before giving it away and finally losing 4-2 to a team of Wombles! To add to Nottinghamshire woe Mansfield lost their unbeaten record at Swindon. Derby got a win to climb back into the playoff positions. Both Notts and The Stags have a chance to redeem themselves to
  20. Apparently Sir Walter Raleigh came up with the idea for the chopper whilst he was in the Tower of London awaiting execution in 1618.
  21. Jill, I remember Colin Spick from when I lived on Russell Rd. in the early 1960s. IIRC he lived towards the bottom of Burford Rd. There was a younger black lad who lived close to him known as Junior. He was a brilliant footballer. I think he went to Stanley Rd boys school. I often wonder if he made a career out of football he was that good.
  22. I think you're nearly right Jill. That does look very like the old High Pavement/Forest Fields Grammar school. You can see the rectangular wooden sign in the top left hand corner. I remember this reading Forest Fields Grammer School (sic) in the early 60s when I was there. It was corrected around the mid 60s. So that would make the cobbled street behind the railings Stanley Road. The shelter the kids are in would be part of what I knew as Forest Fields Girls Primary School when I lived in the area (1961-73).
  23. https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1834443/national-trust-christmas-easter-woke Shameful. I used to be supportive of the NT but now I'm having a rethink.
  24. Oz, It might be time to get some money on Mansfield. They are looking quite formidable. They're third with a game in hand and are playing very well (in the league) Notts have slipped a bit in the last few weeks and the last minute penalty they conceded at Crewe yesterday was extremely disappointing. A draw would have been fair but football continues to confound the pundits with alarming regularity. Notts have certainly missed John Bostock but it looks like he could be on the bench next Saturday. Palmer is a huge loss but getting Dan Gosling on loan is a great move and should pay divi
  25. Notts missed several chances in the first half and paid the price in the second half. Wrexham's goalie was very good but Mullin should have been sent off when he kicked out at Jodi Jones who had an excellent game. Wrexham had to put three men on him and he still got away to put in his trademark crosses. Wrexham's Lee was a real handful. His goal was a deflection BTW. A draw would have been fair. Phil Parkinson has got his team well versed in the dark arts. A fully fit Matt Palmer and John Bostock would have got us the win but we're still second and there's still a long
