  1. I see that a couple of my photos have gone. All the trouble it took to finally get them there as well...lol
  2. Pixie, I see you collect tatty teddy bears and it made me wonder if you watch Antiques Roadshow on the TV. People have taken their old teddy bears onto the show and found they've been worth hundreds of pounds and on odd occasions into the thousands.
  3. RGR, I agree with everything you put in your descriptive post. I've been a couple of times now and find that the Americana show is a fantastic day out.
  4. Yes, Cliff Ton. I was going to put two Trent Bridge Boys School class photos on. My son sorted out Photobucket for me and wrote the instructions down for me to follow. Following his instructions I downloaded the 'Mighty Fine' photos without any problem. I tried to put the school photos on yesterday but when I right clicked to 'paste' I just got the list of instructions and not the 'paste'.
  5. Thanks, mick2me. I've been trying to put a photo of Mighty Fine on and I've done everything I did before but when I right click to 'paste' I can't. I've tried to put two Trent Bridge class photos on as well but failed.
  6. I hope your quote regarding laughter comes true, jackson. I would hope that I'd see you there also. mick2me, I've heard that Mighty Fine had a conductor called Gladys but I can remember there was a conductor called Dennis. If it's the same one that you refer to then it's the one I used to see on the late bus from time to time. They used to call it the 'Paddy Bus'. He was a really nice guy, always laughing and joking and when he was with my dad it was like a double act. Having said 'double act' I'm beginning to wonder if he WAS Tommy Trinder doing a second job on the side...lol
  7. I've had such a laugh at all your comments, they've all been so funny. I don't know where the photo was taken jackson because It wasn't my photo. Last year I decided to download all my photos onto my computer. I got the box, bags and anything else they were in and downloaded the lot. I then asked my sister and brothers to let me download any photos they have of my deceased parents and any old photos they have from my childhood. They all responded well and I saw lots of photos that I'd not seen before, not just my parents but my grand-parents. There were also lots of photos of myself at a young
  8. My youngest son has helped me to put the two test photos onto the site. I've got all the instructions written down so hopefully I'll be able to get some old photos put onto the site. My dads name was William Arthur Booth but everyone knew him as 'Mighty Fine'. I remember,as a kid, taking my dads 'snap', which he'd forgotten, to the bus terminus on Victoria Embankment. I was asking drivers what time Arthur Booth would be there but nobody knew him. As I was about to walk away I mentioned that people called him 'Mighty Fine' and suddenly everybody knew who he was.
  9. Michael's Dad 'Mighty Fine' when he was a driver.
  10. This is my dad Inspector Booth, commonly known as 'Mighty Fine' in the City centre. http://i1160.photobu...orBooth1962.jpg
  11. I agree, jackson. I think that when it's Mother's Day, or any other anniversary, people would sooner recieve a card or gift that has been made with love and care for that person. It just makes it a little more special.
  12. I'd forgotten all about Fred Frost's grocers. My eldest brother John was telling me about when Jim went on holiday to Codnor Park. He thought it was in Scotland. I've not received your e-mail, Deeps. I was going to send you some photos of Grainger St. and Meadow Lane.
  13. Compo, I was looking at your photo of the Dansette and I remembered that I have one in my loft. It's in mint condition but not been used for many years.
  14. I have spoken to my eldest brother and he says that John Cumberpatch had the fruit & veg shop. There was also Ron, Mick, and George Cumberpatch.
  15. On the left side, towards the end was a snooker hall which was upstairs. I think that a police station was also there.
  16. If I remember correctly, the Ariba cafe used to be on the right hand side of this photo, just past the red van.
  17. It would be nice if people celebrated St. George's Day with the same fervour..!!
  18. Was CS Gant the engineering place? I think the place on the other corner was quite a few things in it's time, cafe, bookies etc. I remember the Cumberpatch family and think it was Ron who had the grocery, fruit and veg shop. I also remember George Cumberpatch. It's strange how I can't remember the faces of people I knew really well but I can remember the face of the guy in the fruit and veg shop.
  19. I've just checked and there is nothing there from you Deeps. Try re-sending it and hopefully I'll get it. Regarding H.M.S. Hogue I just typed the name into the search engine and clicked on Wikipedia.
  20. I never knew their names, just the house number. You have a good memory, Deeps. I've been thinking of the row of shops and can vaguely remember these... on the corner of Grainger St. was a sweet shop, then a wool/clothes shop, the chip shop, another, then the cafe on the corner of Brand St. I think the cafe was a bookies at some time but not sure.
  21. Deeps, knowing of your interest in the Royal Navy I thought that you may be interested in this. My dad's brother Sto. 1d. John Booth served on H.M.S. Hogue. It was a steam ship built in 1900. On the 22nd September 1914 it was attacked by a German submarine, U-9, and sunk. John Booth lost his life. I have a photo of him and also the Scroll from the King to commemorate his sacrifice. This morning I have been looking for information on H.M.S. Hogue and have found a photo of the ship being attacked. It was sad to see the photo knowing that my relative was on the ship.
  22. I did a paper round for the papershop on Meadow Lane, the one between Grainger St. and Brand St. My round was close to the shop I'm pleased to say. Meadow Grove, Holme St.,Grainger St.. Brand St. Freeth St. and Moreland St. I then had to go all the way along Daleside Rd. to the junction of Trent Lane to deliver to one house. I know it wasn't far but it seemed like miles when I was a kid. I used to walk along reading their newspapers and magazines.
