  1. Not being picky but, mods and rockers were products of the 60's, and the next post mentions 80's, so why are they in the 70's bit?
  2. Wasnt the original Welbeck a berni anyway? or at least took over from a Berni already there?
  3. Living not far from the brewery (Northgate) i remember the horses delivering the barrels to a beer off opposite my house. It was Bob and Sadie Cartwrights, where my grandad would sometimes send me to fetch him a half in a jug, obviously sampling the delights? of the brew as i bought it back! Back home, (not bought it back as in puked!! ) My grandad would also scoop up the "road apples" for his garden, and very often on the way down to school, my mates and i would often pop into the brewery yard to look at the horses.
  4. How many more coincidences can be dug up? I did the inaugral ball at the Royal when it first opened, and also many more over the years supplying Radio Trents "Electric Gramaphone" for lots of doos, i wonder if yours was one of them?
  5. I'll second that Den. The adverts, repeating every few minutes or records really does me 'ed in. Can't stand local radio now for that very reason. Give me Terry's Togs anyday. Saga's not too bad - if only they would drop the boring adverts. Do these people really believe that we get brainwashed into going out an buying the products just because we heard them over and over on the trannie? Oh, and while i'm on the soap box - can't stand female jocks - the high pitched voices, innane dribble and false laughs just go through me Frank, youre missing the point of the ads, they actually finan
  6. You went during "the good old days" pre GWR takeover, when it was a truly local station. Steve Merike came back from Oz, took a job as a car salesman, then returned back into radio, ultimately changing from Trent to Gem, and currently onto Saga 106.6 fm, where most of our old colleagues from the Trent days reside, in fact, a lot of people say its like Trent was in the good old days! You should check it out, its on the web.
  7. When did you go to Oz? i ask that as it might have been before the dreaded GWR (now combined with the Capital group to become GCap,) got their grips on it. Many people, myself included believe they have totally messed up the Trent so many loved, and furthermore, if you only get the night time shows, none of them come from Nottingham anyway. In fact you could listen to any station in the group, and heaven knows there are so many of them , and you would still hear the same show as its networked from bristol! How local is that??????
  8. Should have mentioned above........VIP Radio is actually owned by Kev Roberts.
  9. Wasnt the name spelt Karl and the Heidelbergers? I worked with the band at least a couple of times....cant remember where tho'! For a long time they were resident at The Bier Kellar in Nottingham. Carl was totally mad on stage, as previously noted, a cross between the mannerisms of Ian Anderson, and Joe Cocker. I also remember him sticking on a fake tongue, which added to his " madness!"
  10. I was born there, well the City Hospital to be exact, and would like to hear from anyone who lived there, or on any of the streets around there, Palm st, High Church st, Monsall St, Egypt rd, Eland st, Haydn rd etc.
  11. Yep, even im ion there, as for Chris Ashley, heres a couple of things, firstly, hes on VIP Radio, sky 0196, every saturday evening with a show called The Mod Squad, and, back in 1980, he was responsible for me not being able to walk for 3 days!. Basically, Chris decided i should join him and Graham Knight on a charity walk from Langley Mill, to Market Square in Nottm. We arrived ready for the leisurely walk at 10..00 am, but Chris did his arithmetic and timing, and concluded that if we walked, the pubs would be closed by the time we arrived, and so decided we would run the 11 or so miles. Now
  12. Ooworreeweeworreeweeissen? Was he on his own?
  13. Might be a rare Elt single, but it only raised a fiver.......
  14. Not so many grannies there now, as i say, in fact, theres been quite a few girls of teenage years,......
  15. I actually bought Boogaloo Party from Rob at the Coop in 1966, and yes, hes still heavily involved in the northern scene, as i mentioned elsewhere Mick, amongst other venues, hes regularly at The regency Rooms in Ilkeston, for Kev Roberts big soul night( i start there too this month!) plug plug! PS, ta for the info re the calendar for gigs etc!
  16. Currys didnt take Dixons over, they were both part of DSG, as is woolworth ( or were) and PC World. They merely decided they needed a change of strategy as far as "branding" was concerned.
  17. As said previously its Currys now. The guy whos the manager there was a colleague of mine when we were both young lads at Dixons on King st in Nottingham. One day ill tell you the story of some cling film, a removed light bulb, and the ladies toilet there! !tony!
  18. Mick Knight do you mean? no, hes been retired a few years now, and yep, the old Palais as was, but with a few million quid thrown at it. As for the ages of the ladies, there seem to be far more younger ones than the last time there was an over 25 night held there, Honest! If you do come down, make sure you say hello too!
  19. Rob is still going, and as far as im aware will still be in the line up for the Regency, and how many more coincidences can we get here, but during my 11 year stint at the love shack at rock city, i was in the 70's room (le freak at the rig) and Rob for around 8 years (maybe a bit less ) was in the 60's room. He still has his record shop just off Parliament st,...... sod! .... is it Hurts yard or Byard lane.?..its just gone out my head! no im pretty sure its Hurts yard!
  20. And unless im mistaken, driven by Terence McCann, actor Dennis Waterman, i interviewed him once, when he was nursing a hangover, not pleasant at first, i can tell ya! but he did improve.......
  21. Flippin eck!! so many coincidences on here! I worked at The Babel for Zak and Kurt in 1979 and 1980!! I had recently joind NJD, hoping to do their mobile work, but they insisted i was better at being a club jock, and ,i guess as im still doing it, as well as having 25 years in radio under my pseudonym, i reckon they were right. I also did the club at the Bridgford, wasnt it called Toffs? i remember being told not to play punk music there, but was asked for it so many times i did,and had the whole place pogoing and gobbing allover the place! Speaking of clubs, dont forget me, and another forme
  22. Mick, the link on your post has a recommended book by Kev Roberts, who as any Northern fan will know is something of an ikon in this music, now, according to Kev, it was me who brought him into radio, when back in 1980, i had just taken over Kenny Hagues show on Radio Trent, and i had 2 guests, both called Kev, one was kev Thomas, from Arcade records as was, and the other was Mr Roberts. I had no idea of this fact until recently, when, as a guest dj at Kevs 50th, at the Regency in Ilkeston, i was heralded as "the guy who got Kev into radio" More coincidence, and a plug, i will be joining the
  23. Mick, was your ex brother in law called Jan (Yan)? way back in the Dungeon days, Stu knocked around with Jan, who became a butcher, at least for a short time, around 1967, and yep, the Dungeon became, 8 till late, and The Big Apple, but werent the Ad Lib and Kool kat in the Lace Market? And getting off the 43, which went on to Trent bridge, at the stop near C and A, what was the name of the pub opposite? i know a lot of the Dungeon regulars used it, as well as the Children, Sal, and the Trip.
