  2. All this talk of 'Headlice'' causes a memory or two of a girl who sat next to me at school......she came back from seeing the Nurse with her hair wet thru and told she had to sit at the back of the class by herself .....i felt really sorry for her and told the teacher she should still sit next to me......the Teacher asked me if i wanted ''NITS'' AS WELL?.........Told her i didnt mind it won't Kill me will it''..........my request was Granted........

A few years later i bumped her down the Palais and she recalled that day and  thanked me.........i was very touched....then she turned me down for a Dance..........

  3. So many memories of ST Albans road playing field from school boy days in the 50s........

Football redfearn cup cup final....kicked off by 3 Forest players Bob Mckinlay...Jack Burkitt and i think Jim Barratt...

The Pitch rose up down the left wing(still does) and always recall our Football Teacher teacher Mr Barnes calling it the Nob ....as in ''Hit it hard up the 'Nob'''

Also the only time my mother came to watch me play....it was against Highbury school 1956...she was there with my brother in his pram.......i got kicked in the ''Goolies'' and she ran on the pitch pushing the Pram...to see if i was ok......took some living down did that...lol..

He was also a Laryngectomee ....difference was he couldn't speak...so had reason to count my blessings....mind you he had found a way of expressing himself with  sign language...but most importantly he didnt stop smiling and silently laughing...God bless you Roger....

  7. Although ive lost alot of interest in todays Cricket mainly due to the 'White Ball Games'' which to me are just a slogging game..........Test Cricket will always fascinate me............to anyone who doesn't understand the longer game or Cricket in general its very difficult to explain it....especially some of the terms used.........

Short leg...long Leg...or even square leg.......

    Silly Point...cover point...

    A slash outside the 'Off-stump''...

    Leg break...Beamer...declare before lunch...

    Stroke thru the covers''

    Back foot shot'' Forward defence''

And so many more.......just off now to 'Bowl a Maiden over''

  8. This 'Ashes' series is certainly causing much interest......in a way only Cricket can do...........

The Aussies play to win......and why not?

The next 3 Tests will be interesting to say the least.....

Just watched the incident and Bairstow can only blame himself....

Also reckon the MCC members in the 'Long room' were out of order.....

Remember its just a game ...or is it?.........even the Prime Minister stuck his 'Oar' in...................

  9. Its much easier to commit Adultery if your'e Married''''

Yes...a big favourite of mine......'''RUMPOLE IS BACK''

Love the series...watched it last night....

    '''Is that you Rumpole ?

'' No..its the local 'Blacksmith...come to read your Gas Metre''

  10. Thanks CT...........just enjoyed 'Public Eye'......one id not seen before from 1969......Frank didnt put the Kettle on......but it did go into detail of him preparing for a wet shave''..........filmed in Brighton one of my favourite places...spent some time there a few years ago...brought back some 'Magic Memories''..........

  11. Good first test.....almost re-kindled my love of the game........i know i'm in the minority but i grew up thinking to bat-out the last day of a test and save the match was terrific..........

Going in to bat knowing you had no hope of a win....meant bat the day out with a good defence......and so draw the game........from school days up to nearly 50 my best batting achievement was 59 not out batted all afternoon and made a draw out of what seemed a lost cause.....felt even better than a win...lol...........The match was played at highfields and i was playing for ABGibsons Peterborough v. ABGibsons Nottingham..........Most of the players wanted the game over and done with.. and go for a Pint or back to  Peterborough including the EX wife......she didnt go to another game of Cricket with me..........it even got a mention at our 'Divorce''

My problem was i grew up being a great Fan of 'Trevor Bailey'''....you older Cricket fans will know what i mean......

PS.........I was never popular with my team mates in Peterborough ..so much so when we played mid-week 20 over games  i was always number eleven when it came to the batting line-up.......

Yes @MargieHthose people may well be the nicest people imaginable but that doesn’t mean we need to see them dressed inappropriately to their body size/shape.  I like to see men in shorts (in warm weather) so long as they have good legs, I’m a ‘leg’ person.  I think too many females leave the house without looking in the mirror, bare flabby mid-riffs, big bottoms, short skirts with awful fat legs.   Myself, I am happy to wear shorts because my legs are still good, but the shorts are just above the knee, not up the crotch.  But I’ve got scraggy arms and won’t leave the house in sleeveless gear.  It’s all about pride in your appearance isn’t it?

Agree entirely Lizzie........despite what i say about men in shorts......if they are clean and have good legs good luck to em......its the scruffy generally older men who i can't be doing with...especially if showing 'Ugly feet''........i believe in looking smart...makes me feel good anyway....and my ''Bobby Moore's'' still look good.......
