  1. Beastie. Hi mate. Thanks for the info, good to hear that (strewth - all in our 70's now as well!). Give my best wishes to them when you see them
  2. Hi Graham Edward, yes you could be right - I remember the name but very little else unfortunately. David Goodall originally asked if I remembered who it was so I expect he'll comment in due course. I think Dave Beardall was in Schweitzer House, any memories?
  3. No, not me. I spent most of my 3rd year AWOL but never actually got barred/banned/expelled/suspended. Wrote a few thousand lines "I shall not smoke" (or words to that effect) over the years though after being caught on school grounds by prefects or teachers
  4. Hi David, you're right, I don't think H & S existed in those days though I don't remember anyone getting seriously damaged! Can't remember Chemistry teachers, it was never my strong subject (not that many were) but I remember Dr Jones and Brian Thompson from Biology, both unforgettable characters. Pupils - of those you mention, I remember Pete Pelling (Paling?), Colin Humphries (celloist) - a good friend at Bramcote Hills Grammar School, though our paths diverged as we got older through ACHS, John Hearson - yes, Ian Fraser certainly (great Billy Fury and Eddiie Cochran fan), Alan Motters
  5. Yes,, that's me! Got into bad habits at an early age, finally gave up the cigs about 30 years age but the damage had been done. 10 years down Calverton Pit after I left the Army didn't help either. I remember some of your chemistry escapades, including you coming to school one day with what looked like a five-o'clock shadow aroung your mouth after you investigated the power of a vacuum? Great days. Best wishes. Gall
  6. David Goodall? Yes, I believe so. Didn't you live on Rolleston Drive/junction of Eaton Drive and have a great interest in chemistry? You may remember me as "Gall". I lived on Surgey's Lane.
  7. Re Fox R post: Colin (?) Humphreys - yes it was Colin (or "Humph") - played cello ? Tanner - John Tanner - still owe him 10 bob - how much is that worth now? ? Wilkinson - Colin - was at Bramcote with us ? Wright - David - as I remember Was in touch with Trev Stainforth for a while a year or so again but he never replied to my email. Lives in Melbourne Jim Briers was my French teacher, great bloke but I was a hopeless case with languages! Anyone remember Mr Salmon - taught English?
  8. Good to see Wilf and Beasty (amongst others, of course) on here now. Wilf, I remember you particularly from the Smoke Room at the rear of the dutch barn, and Beasty because of his sheer size!! - apologies old friend! I wondered if anyone remembered Dave Wells (Ryder-Cheshire house) and Dave Beardall (Schweitzer, I think)? Like myself, both were local Arnold lads around this period (59 -63) and both seemed to have disappeared off the radar many years ago. I see also that TrevS hasn't posted for a while. Is he ok does anyone know? I PM'd him some time ago but he never replied, th
  9. Peter Cropper has added the Programme from the November 1963 School Prizegiving at the Albert Hall, Nottingham to the FRU ACHS site. Well worth a look,, just wish I knew how to print it off!
  10. Hi Pat's sister, Welcome and thank you for that programme. I remember the play being performed in the school hall and also many of the names. Regrettably, my problem nowadays is putting faces to them. I think your brother and friend may have been the year above us, as were quite a few of the cast, and I can't quite match faces to them, sorry. I think the year must either have been my last, or penultimate at ACHS - either 1963 or 62. I'm sure it was after the play at St Mary's church (1961). My promotion to Ticket Seller from Scene Shifter is mind blowing - eat your heart out Trev S !!!!
  11. Commo, just looking back on your post re BHGS classes and streaming. There were two years, 1958-9 was my First Year and there was a Second Year there. I think there were two classes in each year but that's as far as my memory goes. Dr Higginson says in his book that ACHS began in 1959 with 393 pupils (on page 3) and 360 (on page 5). Split that between three years of which the First Year at ACHS was a new year, 120 in each, divided between two schools, BHGS and Eastwood Tech - and my brain has just turned to jelly!!!!! Best of luck in your research! He does say in the book though that tha
  12. Hi y'all, Just a quickie, have to shop and then visit the doc's to check my pulse. Lizzie (and Trev) you may be right about the caravan resident, but I could have sworn that Thompson lived in it for at least the first couple of years, and I'm sure someone mentioned it on FRU some years ago. No probs, my memory isn't what it was. The art work of Hlil .............oh yes, I remember that well Trev, but not sure I dare mention it on a public site! Something closely associated with the Profumo scandal, yes ? and the boys loos near to Aylward House ? Oops, giving away too much. Jones actuall
  13. Hi Trev, good to hear from you. I've re-enlisted to FRU and added the other smoke room photo's and the Aylward House one on to that site. The dates may be wrong - but it's gotta be between 59 and 63. I spent the remainder of yesterday rummaging thru' old box files looking to see what photo's and articles I had. Most are what my old mum (RIP) had saved, she even kept my old school books which will be fascinating to read after 50 years (?) Could not find the "Nottinghamshire Today" mag with the article on Carl Beeson and his micro-brewery but I live in hope, things like that are just not
  14. Yes, you're right - he mentioned it at the re-union and a few months later there was an article in the "Nottinghamshire" magazine about him, pictures too. Wonder if I've still got it, must have a rummage
