  1. I could indeed but it’s an off road electric bike so it would give me no excercise. Once our hay meadow’s been cut and baled I can get all the excitement I need on my quad bike - and nobody can prevent me!
  2. The idea was to get some gentle exercise, not to tear around like a madman. They are illegal on the streets anyway and I wouldn't want to tarnish my hitherto unblemished record!
  3. I detest all cyclists as they impede my car journeys. Now that I can't get my leg over my new electric bike I hate them even more!
  4. I've got to confess, as a 'gadget man' I like all the bells and whistles too. I did see a Morgan parked outside my local as I drove past today and it did evoke a certain yearning though!
  5. It’s the same over here but there are so many hoops to jump through before you can it’s not worth the hassle. Plus, of course, there’s the potential devaluation of the property for your heirs. We’re running out of burial spaces and cremation appears to be the preferred and cheaper option. We do have a natural ‘woodland’ burial site at nearby Oxton which has proved popular.
  6. I do have reservations about electronic handbrakes. These require the action of servo motors to bring the brake pads on or off. It’s one of those gizmos that’s done just because it can be but it’s something that could fail and will be an expensive and complex repair and no doubt will fail after the car is out of warranty. Cars now are unnecessarily complex and are loaded with pointless gadgetry which we’ve managed without for years. Am I becoming a Luddite?
  7. Thinking further about it I guess that’s why there is an on/off switch. It’s good to turn the engine off for a longer stop (unless you need the aircon.) but only a complete idiot would keep letting it stop/start in a slow moving traffic queue.
  8. I gather it increases the number of starts by a ratio of 50:1. Sadly I think the failures will occur after the warranty has expired. I just turn it off after starting.
  9. Yes, my wife suggested a mounting block - for the bike, not for her obviously. I made one to get on the Fergie so I’ll give that a go tomorrow.
  10. There was a horsey lady in nearby Fiskerton who was buried in the corner of one of her paddocks some years ago. The JCB dug very deep though so I doubt she will ever be disturbed..
  11. I had many years of enforced religion years ago. Some of sticks although the quotation is not verbatim!
  12. A bit of a turn off for prospective buyer though.
  13. We all come from dust and will return as dust!
  14. I'd like an older classic, just as toy for nice sunny days. Nobody likes gadgets more than l do but it would be great to drive a nice simple sportscar without all the toys. Having said that I've just taken delivery of an electric bicycle but with my arthritis I'm having difficulty in getting my leg over. Make of that what you will!
  15. The astronomic rise in costs of funeral services in the U.K. is under investigation by the Government. Costs have risen by double the rate of inflation over the past fourteen years. Have you ever seen a poor undertaker or a poor bookmaker? The odds are always in their favour!
  16. C'mon. How did we survive without air conditioning in cars? It was the prime thing I specified when it used to be an extra. Plus automatic of course! On our first Mini the heater was a £12 extra!
  17. Yes, we have that in both of our cars. One of them starts beeping as well. I don’t need the facility as I never drive close to the vehicle in front but my wife activates it on occasions!
  18. I believe auto stop start is now a requirement on all new build cars and has been around for some time. Allegedly it’s to stop air pollution and to save fuel. I always switch it of when I get in. On my latest car an extra firm push on the brake pedal puts the car into hold with the engine off and the brakes on. It starts up again when you press the accelerator. I use this facility when I know I’m going to be stopped for more than a few seconds.
  19. Straight to crem. for us. No service, no wake. Minimum cost. Funerals are a total rip off!
  20. Same here. I was hauled back in Stockholm, many years ago, for crossing the road on the red man even though there was no traffic. Very disciplined people some of the continentals. May have been the Germanic influence. “You vill obey!”
  21. I realise low battery voltages can cause this problem but the battery readings have always been over 12.5 volts at rest. Being out in the sticks all her journeys are of at least 10 miles. I think on her particular model there isn’t a second lithium iron battery and the boost for the restart comes from a capacitor. Certainly on my last car, also a Jag but a different model, it did have two batteries, a large main one and a much smaller lithium iron one. They were connected through a ‘gateway module’ which twice required a reprogram. I do try to buy British but I have reverted to the Germans onc
  22. First thing I always do is to turn off the auto stop/start. It can be very irritating if you're crawling along in a traffic queue. It's stopped functioning in my wife's car which is great but as it's still under warranty I suppose I'd better report it at the next service. The trouble is it's not a DIY fix and requires the dealership's diagnostic kit to reprogram.
  23. What? You didn’t come to Bleasby! I worked in Basford for 25 years. Loved every minute of it!
  24. I knew Liverpool well back in the swinging 60's. My girlfriend had given up nursing and had embarked on a teacher training course at Kirkby Fields college in Liverpool. She occupied flats in various areas including Penny Lane, Anfield, Catherine St., and Huyton. I regularly went to the famous Philharmonic pub which was noted for the most magnificent gents' toilets in the land! The Liverpool people had a strong sense of humour and I presume it's still the same today. One of my memorable experiences was visiting the Anglican Cathedral which was still undergoing construction back then. It was an
  25. My wife suggests 'Pie Thorn' hill. The fruit of thorn bushes from which you can make pies! Is there a prize for the winner?
