As I said in my previous post, goats milk from carefully fed goats is lovely - if they are allowed to browse on cabbages etc, then it’s a different matter! And it’s only the billy goats who smell bad, especially when they are getting interested in nearby female goats…… The females have a mild distinctive smell, the same as all animals do. I find it fascinating that horses and dogs especially have a lovely distinctive smell - probably cats as well but I’ve become ‘nose blind’ to them.

I love goats and used to regularly milk 3 of them when their owners went away on frequent holidays. My reward was I could keep the milk (and eggs, cos they also had chickens).
Because the goats were fed only on special goat feed and grass, the milk was delicious. Their field was kept free of any weeds etc that would adversely flavour the milk. The owners also kept a smelly billy which I wasn’t too keen on. I kept him in his large shed, quickly providing goat food and water (before he put his head down to charge at me)

We look after our son’s dog and have been told this trick….
put some dry rice or pasta in a small empty plastic bottle (fill about third to half full) and screw the lid back on. When the dog does something unacceptable, say “no” VERY firmly and loudly while shaking the bottle vigorously near its ear. If you do this consistently, it works !!! Of course being consistent is the key and all the family need to be on board with it.
It doesn’t take many days for the pooch to learn, and sometimes just seeing the bottle will stop them in their tracks.- 1

Just not your (or your wife’s) day, Trogg. I hope her wounds will soon heal. How old is the dog? Puppy training classes may be a good idea!
btw, hope your blocked parotid gland is now better x

We took on 2 cats 16 ish years ago. A mother and her son. The previous owner said the mother was only 7 months old when she had her 3 kittens (our son took on the other 2 kittens). The mother seems quite fit and healthy as are her grown up kittens. She is still the boss of her son and pushes him away if his food looks better than hers! She is quite small compared with all her offspring - perhaps she stopped growing after giving birth?

Ben, You are a very resilient person and a role model for those of us facing big problems with our health. If you can come through smiling, then so can we! God bless you, Ben x

Ben, I expect you called it jelly lake because it would be full of frogspawn in the spring?
Good on you for trying to stop bigger boys harming the frogs x

We went blackberrying this morning down our village paths. Collected an ice cream tub full, so we . We some with apples in a crumble for lunch and froze the rest. Love the country life.
We are looking after a friend’s puppy while they are on holiday this week so are being kept busy as she craves attention for much of the time!! She is lovely, although our two cats disagree with that…..

That’s a terrible sight BK. Sometimes, fields catch fire near our village but nothing like the fires that have been out of control in other countries

I’m not a fan of cut flowers. I love seeing flowers in the garden where they belong

It may not be that Nottm centre no longer has a vibrant atmosphere - it might be that we older Nottstalgians are no longer vibrant ourselves? We all like to think that things were better when we were young, when we were full of life and hope for the future.
I dare say that were the centre to be magically transformed overnight into how we remember it, the young people would moan that it wasn’t as good as it used to be!
or am I wrong ?

Happy birthday to Alex.
I think we’ve had better weather here in Cambs than in Nottingham as I’ve been sitting outside in the garden some evenings until 10 ish. We are looking after a friend’s dog and she likes sitting with me in the garden when it’s dark, watching the bats zooming around. As we live in a village it’s fairly quiet here which is lovely- 1

Only just seen this, trogg. I hope the problem with your salivary gland will soon be resolved. Keep sipping water to keep your mouth moist and I’ve read it’s best to avoid citrus fruit and spicy
food for now…. Thinking of you xx

I still go to the optician every year, but they always tell me there are no lenses they can prescribe which will improve my eyesight I occasionally get new frames with the existing prescription just for a change or, like in your case Col, one of the arms drops off or a lens drops out! I only buy the cheapo glasses ……

I just keep telling myself that our sheds and garage aren’t anything to do with me! I never go in there. What finds it’s way into the house is a different matter, though…

@plantfit you are such a good husband with all you do in the house - cooking and cleaning etc, I’m very surprised if your wife’s pupils aren’t permanently dilated !!!
Having a thoughtful husband like you would certainly be the way to many a woman’s heart……
I’m pleased that she decided to have the cataract op - when the eye drops are completed, I hope she’ll be delighted at the difference it’s made.

I have eye drops put in my eyes every time I go the hospital eye clinic - every 1 - 2 months. The drops are atropine to dilate my pupils and they do sting unless you ask for some numbing drops first! Some of the nurses do put the numbing drops in automatically but some don’t - a cost cutting exercise perhaps?
I always come out of the clinic looking like a ‘little black-eyed Susie’. It is supposed to look attractive having dilated pupils (I’ve read) as when a person looks at someone they fancy, their pupils naturally dilate !!!! Don’t know if that’s true
….. or perhaps people think I’m on non -prescription drugs !

Lovely photo. Perhaps one of the meet ups next summer could be a trip down the river on a boat? I expect it would be too expensive to hire one though! At least one of the Carlton le Willows reunions have been on a boat but I didn’t go because my friend wasn’t going: I’m not always very confident with people I don’t know . (You lot are OK though because I feel I know you through our communicating on the forum)
