  1. Before any uncouth remarks......the big red moon is usually turquoise.
  2. Well we went outside at 9.30 and waited and waited, couldnt see anything. The night before the moon was really bright but I couldnt remember what time it was or in which position it was so we waited. Eventually we saw it but it was already covered. I'd been chatting to the grandchildren and hadn't thought to look beyond the trees But although we didnt see it all we got to see it . It was a bit faint though as there was a bit of cloud.

  6. Salame piccante maybe. We got a better one of it. Will post later..
  7. After all this rain lately we have loads of mosquitoes . More than usual . Last year we couldnt swim because of the invasion of wasps. But have noticed too that fortunately we havent had any mosquitoes or wasps round the pool . ?. Is it because the pool is salt water? Strange but it may be true. Going to sit out tonight to watch La Luna Rossa with the grandchildren. Citronella candles at the ready as well as the Autan..
  8. Same here we have loads of ticks. Living in the middle of grape vines is lovely but with our 3 dogs plus my daughters dog it's a daily inspection of fur. They are treated for prevention of everything going but the occasional tick gets through I heat up a sewing needle place it on its body, out comes all the legs and head so with a quick pull with a tissue it's out. Never fails. We have cat loving neighbors and apart from 3 cats in the house they have at the moment 8 strays. So far fleas haven't been a problem, thank goodness. Our problem is zanzare ( mosquitoes) they can cause filaria in anima
  9. Spent the morning waiting for the electrician to come and finish his jobs. The electric gate suddenly wouldn't open or rather would open only on one side, the sensor outside needs replacing. The alarms need to be reinstalled and a powered point needs replacing. It's being held together with masking tape. Doesn't it make you mad when they don't turn up.
  10. Big problem here too but a while ago a tv programmer was pinpointing the scams towards the elderly. Advising the elderly to watch out for tell tale errors in their approach. It gave them a very clear indication what to look for. These pointers were enacted in little scenes along with an elderly handicapped man and a very attractive girl. As a lot of elderly live in apartments they were advised on all sorts of security's. An extremely useful bit of advice towards the O A P's
  11. Swept all the dust and grit around and hosed down all round pool. 2 1/2 hrs. At 9.30 got in and just let the water soothe me. Light on and it was heaven. Just a few strokes and a couple of excercises and I was so relaxed. Temperature 27 c earlier was 35 c Next door neighbours uncle gave me another tray of courgettes and tomatoes. Looks like being a busy day preserving them tomorrow.
  12. Its hiding here Ian, no shade anywhere. ( we face south) 6.30 in pool this morning . 20 lengths and excercises done. Starting to feel its doing my back a lot of good. Water is still warm at that time , I dont get that initial shock of cold water when I get in. Tiling almost finished, just a bit more grouting and we'll be able to sunbathe in peace.
  13. He has cardiac amyloidosis. He is into the first week of a four week screening to see if hes suitable for a clinical trial to test new drugs that are being used in USA , canada and Europe. Failing that a bone marrow transplant. Either way its not pleasant. Thankyou once again Margie. Xxx
  14. My last 2 days has brought some sad news for me. A cousin in Australia sent me an email telling me he may only have a few months to live and today heard from a nephew that he has to have a kidney transplant. Its left me feeling so sad.
  15. So sad Ian . There are too many fights or arguments that finish badly.
  16. Years ago when we lived in Radcliffe a colleague of my husbands came to see him. He seemed quite normal and we sat chatting for ages. He eventually left to go home or so we thought. He went to visit all his friends and then committed suicide in the most horrific way. This was because father of the girl he loved didnt think he was good enough for her. ( the father is or was a famous figure in Nottingham) Cant think of a bad enough word to express what I thought of him. A couple of years ago my mums husband ( deceased) granddaughter committed suicide. She was bi- polar and had tried it on
  17. Heres something if you have a glut of courgettes or too much fish in freezer. The other week I got some fish out of the freezer and as it was hot at the end I didnt fancy eating. So not to waste them the next day I marinated them. Flour and fry fish and put aside. Wipe pan out so theres just a veil of oil left, if not add just a little. Fry a garlic clove and a sliced onion leaving still slightly crunchy. Add some rosmary or sage and add half glass of white wine vinegar and half glass of dry white wine . Add a tbsp of sugar and bring to boil for a couple of minutes then pour over your fish tha
  18. DJ360 now dont think I've slipped another disc. The pain comes and goes and I know I try to do too much. When I go to see mum I have to pull up a chair thats the other side of the room and have to lean forward to talk to her as she refuses to wear her hearing aids. When I stand up again it takes a while to get straight. I have to have a regime doing all my exercises and walking. With 4 dogs to take care of in the mornings its not easy to do everything I want to never mind what I have to do. But from tomorrow its exercise, walk, exercise , walk etc and of course swimming. can't do much at
  19. Compo hope everything turns green again. Driving around here the other day I marvelled at the vivid greeness of the vines and trees. We've had too much rain and we have underground streams so I think thats helped. We have everywhere that pales a bit in the summer but its always green but this year its exceptional. But would you believe theyve reduced the water pressure and every now and again a helicopter flies over presumably to check we're not using hosepipes or they are controling the vineyards.
  20. Yes Catfan I escaped the shark but now we're getting a Dolphin to put in it.
  21. Loppy And Jil sorry it made me laugh too. Scratches of any kind are painful. Peveril P The antics of the kittens are exactly the same sort of thing my pups do. Cant find socks ? Look into their beds. Slippers the same. I bring the washing in put it on the nearest chair because the phone rings when finished I look around and most of the washing is on the floor. Loppy some people have just bought the house next door but one to us as a holiday home . They have a Beagle and for a while now we've heard this weird sound every so often. My daughter said that beagles have a strange sort of b
  22. Compo, you should have said before that you'd had no rain. I couldhave had it bottled and sent to you because we've had a glut of it.
  23. Didn't see one Catfan. Maybe a lizard or a few dandelion clocks but no shark.
  24. getting ready for evening swim water a bit murky . the filter was just switched on .It is clearer now
