  1. County - Continue their slide down the ladder, now see the bottom half of the table in 13th place after going down 1-3 at home to promotion hopefuls Crewe. The visitors opened the scoring in the 5th minute and extended their lead in the 19th minute with a penalty. That man had a shot well saved by the Crewe 'keeper but the game was relatively quiet until Crewe went further ahead in the 77th minute. County got somewhat of a consolation goal when O'Brien scored in the 83rd minute. A look at the match stats indicates Notts have some fundamental issues to resolve. In losing 1-3 at home the stats for Notts looked like this possession 72-28, Shots 14-9, Shots on target 6-3 and corners 9-4. The problem appears to be converting superiority to goals. All is not lost as they are only 4 points from a play-off position. Home against bottom club Sutton United on Tuesday night.

Stags - Their goalfest continues with a 5-1 home win against Salford which sees them at the top of League Two on goal difference from Stockport. Stags opened their account in the 18th minute, Salford equalised just before half time but Stgas went in 2-1 up after a 45+8 goal from Cargill. Stags scored again in the 57th minute with Keillor- Dunn's 17th goal of the season. Stags put a further two past Salford after Vassell received a straight red card in the 73rd minute. Away at Newport County next Saturday.

Forest - Villa opened the scoring in the 4th minute and a brace from Douglas Luiz saw them go in 3-1 at the half time break after Forest pulled one back in time on in the first half. Forest scored again soon after the second half started but Bailey made the score 4-2 in the 61st minute to claim the points for Villa. Somehow to survive they must stop leaking goals. At home against Man U on Wednesday in the 5th round of the FA cup and given United's recent form I think this one may just be winnable. Then back to the more pressing issue of survival when home against table topping Liverpool on 2nd March. Does anyone know when the decision of rule breaking will be handed down.

Politicians rarely lie they obfuscate, present details in ways that can be difficult to understand. smoke and mirrors. Alternatively they simply refused to say anything.

The recently bankrupt Nottingham City Council  yesterday refused to say where £5 million, granted by the government, and designated for the homeless in the city has gone. Commercial sensitivity they claim which is absolute BS. What is sensitive about providing a service to the homeless. Is it true? if they say nothing at all are they lying?

On matters of national security I can accept some things should not be in the public domain, but a council? what are they doing that we are not allowed to know about?

Do you really believe that politicians of all persuasions were not blatantly lying over Brexit?

If I were a TV or radio interviewer or a newspaper reporter and a pollie obfuscated or didn't answer the question asked I would immediately end the interview and tell the public why I had terminated the interview. As for hiding behind "commercial in confidence" they are spending taxpayers money and unless it is a matter of national security then it should be public knowledge.

Interestingly in law a liar can be accused of perjury whereas someone who misleads cannot.

The national broadcaster here, the ABC, regularly engages in fact checking our politicians for their media releases and speeches and runs articles on how well the pollies are tracking to their election promises. Of 66 promises made by the current government upon their election 22 have been delivered, 36 are in progress, 6 are stalled (not on track to be delivered but not yet a broken promise and 2 have been broken either by not being delivered by the promised deadline or not legislated or relevant acts amended.

  3. The more I read this thread and experience "politics" of all persuasions at all levels of government here the more disillusioned I become.

It is way past time that laws are put in place to have "truth in politics" to prevent blatant lies being told particularly in the run up to elections. A recent example here was that prior to the last Federal election both the PM and Defence Minister came to Adelaide and announced that nine new warships were to be built locally. Last week the number was reduced to six. Bearing in mind the last election was only two years ago then surely defence planning extends for more than two years and they should have known what and how many they needed well before that given the procurement lead times of capital ships.

At a local level our council has spent a small fortune on "revitalising" our main street using pavers that are prone to both sinking and lifting, improving street lighting and removing parking places when the street was perfectly functional as it was. Our State governments bestowing many millions on privately owned sporting clubs and tempting sports promoters to hold events here and not even disclosing the cost, hiding behind "commercial in confidence" clauses in contracts. This is public money being spent on politicians vanity projects when, for example, our hospitals and ambulance service cannot respond in a timely manner and spend thousands of hours a month ramped at hospitals because there are no beds for the patients they are carrying.

Our State government has recently announced a AU$100,000,000 pre feasibility study for a desalination project to deliver water for primarily mining companies in the far north of our state. It conveniently forgets that we already have a desalination plant in the metro area which is hardly ever used. Just run the pipes from there and utilise this facility and not build a new one

A message to all politicians "Get your priorities right"

You’re in summer Oz we’re in winter and near the alps so in theory it should be cold , cold as in at least 10-15 c below.

Our weather has been so changeable this summer, today's forecast of 30c got to 32 and tomorrow it's forecast to be 19 after a cool change blows through. 10-15 below is not a temperature anyone should live in.

I honestly meant to put the Morning Star in the above comment but wrote socialist worker for some reason.

Some of the more "red" labour voters in the village I delivered paper to took the Morning Star

  6. Iron sulphate is a really good moss killer for lawns and can assist in fertilising the lawn. During winter we have about six feet of lawn that gets only late afternoon sun and if we get a particularly wet winter the moss thrives. Iron sulphate soon fixes it.

I dont even like plastic shopping bags with shop logos on them.

I see that Lyles are changing the logo on their Golden Syrup and Treacle for the first time in over 100 years.

I thought it was a lion having a kip with some flies buzzing around it. Apparently not, it was a dead lion's carcass with some bees around it using it to make honey. It is based on a well know story from the bible. Not surprising that that I haven't heard of it as I have never ever read the bible and we don't have one in the house. The rebranding, including plastic bottles shows a happier faced lion. the classic tin logo will remain unchanged

What we have with Water is that various companies have not only failed to deliver, but are unable to fund their own improvement and so are demanding increased costs to customers for a substandard service while shareholders continue to 'rake it in'.

I see Severn Trent Water has been fined more than 2 million pounds for illegally discharging 240 million litres of raw sewage into the River Trent from the Strongford waste water treatment works near Stoke on Trent. This following the failure of two out of three screw pumps at the facility.

Luckily it was at a time of high flows in the river otherwise it could have been an environmental disaster.

Elizabeth used to chase us off her land for scrumping when we were kids, but after she returned to her new house she said we could take as many apples as we wanted.

The best place to scrump tasty apples in our pit village was the mine managers house with its massive garden and orchard. I often got caught by the local copper and was not too bothered about that but when he said "If I catch you again I'll be telling your grandad when I see him in the Black Bull tonight). That scared me, not enough to stop scrumping but to make doubly sure he didn't catch me again.

  10. For those of you that read my ramblings about being near to deaths door when I was in ICU for 12 days late last year. I have something to add. My wife inadvertently let slip that early in my stay I had to be resuscitated as I had "died".

I have news for you all there is nothing on the other side, no blinding white lights, no choirs of angels, unless I was bound for the other place, no awareness of living then dying, just nothing. Also there was no awareness of being alive again.

What did I learn from the experience? Life is precious but oh so short, enjoy what time you have as I will be doing as soon as I am fully rehabilitated and fit again.

    G'day Oz,

When I was younger, on odd occasions,  we had tripe with onion sause for dinner. Tripe was disgusting. It is only now that we could have, just as easily, been presented with French onion soup and fed the tripe to the dogs.

Alpha, that reminds me of the song Bob Platt by the Fivepenny Piece

Bob Platt weren't a temperance fellow
in fact he'd a liking for beer.
But he ne'er used t' go beyond limit
Except once or twice during t' year.

His wife ne'er used to wait up for him
Who'd leave him his supper all set.
And when he came in from "The Wheatsheaf"
He managed quite well you can bet.

One neet he were later ner ever.
He'd come all t'way home with Jim Wood.
So he gobbled up all that wur gooin
And turned in as quick as he could.

"Did you like youre meat pie?" said his mississ
"Ah sees no meat pie", replies Bob,
"So I've had all that tripe for me supper
    As tha'd left i'that basin on't hob".

"Thi pie wur in't th'oven you clout yed!
It's a wonder tha didna choke.
Dust tha know what tha's just bin and etten?

  12. County - Lost away at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground to a 20th minute goal by Steven Fletcher in front of 12,532 fans. The defeat tips them out of a play off spot and they are now 9th in the table. McGoldrick had an equaliser controversially disallowed. Notts had three quarters of the possession but could not convert it into goals. Home against 4th placed Crewe on Saturday

Stags - Missed the opportunity to go top as early pressure by them failed to realise goals at the Bescot Stadium in Walsall. Bad misses and good saves kept the game goal less in the first half in which Stags should have been up at least 2-0.

Three goals in twenty minutes saw Walsall run out winners 2-1. Stags remain 1 point behind Stockpoint who were thrashed 4-0 by Tranmere and 2 points ahead of Wrexham who have a game in hand. Home against Salford City on Saturday.

Forest - Relegation pressures were eased a little, for now, by a 2-0 home win against West Ham. Strangely both goals were scored in time on at the end of each half Taiwo Awoniyi in the 5th minute of time on in the first half and Callum Hudson-Odoi in the 4th minute of time on in the second half. He was cautioned one minute later in a game which saw four yellow cards to Forest and five to West Ham, one of which became a red card in the 71st minute to Kalvin Phillips. Forest could have had two more goals but a penalty appeal was turned down and a goal by Danilo was ruled out due to offside by another Forest Player. Away at Aston Villa next Saturday

    Can you explain this please.

Isn't it a re-birth of Screaming Lord Such's Monster Raving Loony Party?

They stood in many constituencies between 1983 and 1997and failed to gain a seat. They scored 4,2% of the vote in Rotherham in 1994
