  1. Sadly things are not getting better for Forest even with their new manager. With a third of the season gone they are still languishing in the relegation zone. I despair that it will get better. According to the pundits, apart from last years teams relegated from the EPL they have the strongest squad on paper. Somebody needs to tell them that the game is not played on paper.

A snack food company in Adelaide claimed it was the states largest builder as it made hundreds of gingerbread houses at Christmas.

They often used to moore up at Fiskerton overnight for a beer in the Bromley Arms.

I often used to fish from the sandy bank that used to be at the end of the flood wall upstream from the Bromley Arms. If the fishing was quiet we used to go for a beer at the pub at lunchtime but always left one person to mind the tackle and the keep nets in case one of John Harker's tanker barges came past as you had to move the baskets way up on the bank and hold all the keep nets and move in and out with the draught to stop them being washed away.

Strange what you remember but the Bromley Arms was a Kimberley Brewery pub and as I did not like their bitter, I drank the mild, the only mild I ever drank.

Oz, my husband had both eyes done a couple of years ago and doesn’t need reading glasses

We have private health cover too, the best part is no waiting for this sort of stuff just set the date, go in for day surgery, and the job is done.

I will only need glasses for really close work, reading a paper of a computer screen is no problem

    7 hours ago, loppylugs said:

Not scared of the surgery now, it was nothing.

The surgery is very quick, twighlight anaesthesia so no problems, just itchy eyes for the first evening and no pain

Follow up apptmt with regular eye doctor next week to see about the left eye and keep using the drops.

Hang in there Loppy it will be well worth it in the end.

I have had both mine done, a month apart and then like Loppy had to have drops, antibiotic ones to reduce the risk of infection for ten days and anti inflammatory for 4 weeks. Now all good, everything as clear as a bell, driving at night is so much easier now. Just got to save my pennies for some new reading glasses.

  7. We are out of our ultra strict "circuit breaker" lockdown as of Saturday midnight.

It now appears that one of the two prime origin cases had deliberately told lies to the contact tracing team that ultimately led to the decision to lockdown the entire state. Strangely enough there are no penalties for misleading the contact tracers?

Still awaiting a formal announcement of what we are allowed or not allowed to do as of midnight Saturday.

I've just spent some time reading PFM political content, regretably it's time I won't get back. After the umpteenth  page of puerile blather, misinformation, 'fake news' and conspiracy theories

I spent a little time reading the comments and like Brew I gave up after a couple of pages of utter garbage and infantile commentary. I did not see any humour in the content or any thing that would make me return for my further education on anything.

  9. I'm pleased you sorted it all out Albert and if it all goes well then on-line shopping is fine.

If however it goes belly up I wonder how many people factor in the value of their time to sort it out and then add that to the price they paid on line to see what the real cost was.

With Covid he came across as the ultimate pragmatist, a man totally devoid of empathy when he mooted the "herd immunity" theory. It was quickly shot down but it was not originally his idea, it was first suggested way back in the 1920's. Faced with an unprecedented situation it was inevitable, and indeed sensible, that all possible scenarios and solutions, however unpalatable should be considered.

The "Do Nothing Option" is always one that should be considered in every scenario plan.

One thing that is apparent, the UK and the rest of the world cannot continue along this stop/start, open/close path we have chosen to combat this pandemic for both social and economic reasons. I am therefore rapidly coming to the conclusion that we need to change tack and use all means possible protect the vulnerable and let everyone else get on with life.

Bye the way what does "briefing against" actually involve?

  11. That is good news nonnaB

From being almost normal here on Sunday and us planning to go to a country race meeting and stay overnight this weekend. No-one in the state is going anywhere. Unless you are an essential worker, only one person in the home is allowed out once per day to shop or go to the doctors or chemists, No other outside activity is allowed. Where you were at midnight last night is where you have to stay for the next six days.

The only things open for the next six days are supermarkets, petrol stations, chemists, doctors surgeries and essential services such as water, power and telecoms and food transport and agricultural/food processing facilities. All other factories are closed except those with continuous process such as steel mills and foundries. Schools are closed this time too and you cannot have a wedding or a funeral.

This comes about as a result of a covid cluster in the northern suburbs of Adelaide where they believe the means of transmission were contaminated surfaces. In total there are 23 confirmed cases with another 7 suspected positives.

They say this strain has a short infection cycle of three days and it started by a cleaner working in a medi hotel where returning travelers are quarantined caught it and passed it on to their family. The amazing thing is that they were not regularly testing workers in these medi hotels. They have decided to put in place severe restrictions for six days and then a reduced level for 8 days after that if things are controlled by then. The village idiots are out hoovering up supplies of toilet paper and dry goods as if the world is ending.

The thought process behind this "circuit breaker" lockdown is to go hard and go early and stop this cluster in its tracks

I am rapidly running out of jobs to do around the house but as today is forecast to be 35 deg I won't get much done anyway.

    Stay safe and well everyone.

  12. There are lots of right geezers in Caper Films, probably my favourite film genre.

Michael Caine starred in a lot of caper movies, the best being The Italian Job, 1969 version, he was good in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels too. Other good ones include Going in Style and of course The Sting.

Who can forget one of TV's greatest geezers Arfur Daley, the late great George Cole who also played Flash Harry, a geezer/spiv in the St Trinians films

tripped over a root and landed heavily on my right hip and shoulder in the mud!

Sounds like bog snorkeling could be your next outdoor pursuit.

Something from Scotland will make the pain go away if it doesn't drink some more.

Take care, the bruises will fade.

  14. My advice is go to your local hardware emporium and handle the tool. pick the tool up, see if it feels comfortable in your hands, see if it's not too heavy and unwieldy, that changing the battery pack is easy and the same goes for any other attachments. Check availability of spares, service and warranty. Chose a reputable brand and buy it there. It might cost a few dollars more but you know what you are buying and if anything does go wrong you know where to take it back to.

It also highlights the question of should over the counter sales of fireworks be allowed.

Bangers , crackers and explosive fireworks were banned from sale in Australia in 1974 all other fireworks were banned from sale in 1982 with the exception of a single day in the Northern Territory and under tight controls in Tasmania. Despite this you can often see and hear them being let off locally. There is a thriving black market in illegal fireworks and strangely enough they can be bought easily on t'interweb via gumtree and facebook even though the are banned.

I'll admit to having a lot of fun with 3d cannons as a kid and tying 1d bangers to the rocket stick hoping that the bang and the rocket burst would happen at the same time.

monthly sweep with a shovel full of kiln dried sand does the job.

Just come in from doing that to my driveway. I use a polymer sand product called "Pavelock" it literally runs into all the little gaps, sweep the excess off and water with a light mist and its good for another six months.

  17. After no cases of community transmission in South Australia for 7 months we wake up this morning to 17 cases of community transmission in the northern suburbs of Adelaide. At this stage it is believed that the origin point is one of the medi-hotels that house people coming from overseas in quarantine for two weeks and from there in to a large family group. It has been acknowledged that health authorities had not been routinely testing those that have been working in these medi-hotels. I find this an amazing oversight.

It was a failure of procedures in a medi-hotel that led to the recent prolonged lockdown in Melbourne.

Did we become complacent due to the long period without community transmission, unfortunately the answer is yes. As I go shopping only occasionally I can see that people using the hand sanitisers that are at the entrance to most stores has dropped of to around a 10% use rate.

The battle with this virus is a long way from being over and it looks like it will be with us for a very long time if not forever, much like the common cold and flu. After a few days of it being announced that we can freely travel to WA, Tas. and the NT we now have to undergo quarantine there. We are awaiting NSW, Qld and Victoria deciding how to respond. Strange that a few weeks ago we were excluding them all from our state.

To all mentioned on here that have been affected I wish you a speedy recovery and to all others stay as safe as you possibly can.

    For me cash is king

I agree Phil but if you are in business I would add one word "Cash Flow is King" I have seen many businesses go broke withe excellent P&L statements but they did not have the cash to smooth out the lumps and bumps that come with running a business.
