  1. Right on Oz..do you remember Devon Ice Cream on holidays years ago?...that type..not milky white stuff... Yummy.
  2. This song and album in fact i suppose were a basis for teenage love and it's making.Didn't dig ice skating and my long blonde curls wouldn't have got me over the threshold of Bali Hai.Anderson-Bruford- Howe..i miss Squire.
  3. Yes and Yes..didn' t the fella from Ocean City own the one on Wollaton? The Himalayan?...where was that?.. The Curry & Swill was my first adult venture...leaping over the pavement pizzas. Kashmir until 6:am when i worked at camelot. Curry, beer and a rubber of cards.
  4. Thanks for that Mess...Lizzie M on here worked there..Thorn EMI? Hendrix used WEM.. or HiWatt? Pedals and such..make up for my poor playing. Hall Reverb...thats me!
  5. Cheers Colly..i think Ewan Hooper starred also in The Witchfinder General. Hunters Walk captured an era.'Pooley' the copper..later Stan in Dinnerladies. Great theme too.
  6. XTO 245. But it's not just the buses...even the colour of this still makes me feel like it was a great time. The Cresta, Zephyr and Humber ...all from a time when i knew a motor purely by the sound of it's engine. Those white saddlebags..some had reflectors near the buckles- a trip over Trent Bridge meant you were going somewhere..Gem, Melton, even Wilford Hill. This side of the river the lamp posts were white & green..and the asphalt was just a bit posher!
  7. Images of some of these iron posts ...dotted around the area.1933. Two at Standard Hill.1933, Bramcote.1877.Bulwell.nicely painted.1869.
  8. Never heard that one before! It was a lovely time in my childhood going up to Mansfield on the Trent bus.It was a 'sensitive' area as ..on my Dads side..they had remarried due to losses in the war. I still am confused between Uptons and Tindalls.I poked me nose in and just got used to visiting there. Also with a family friend Grahame..who took me to matches. Some nights...i was back late and got no supper. When i returned as a student..i felt great..nobody knew me..and i revisited all the pubs i was taken into...but minus lemonade + crisps this time.
  9. Epic pieces like this, have stayed in my life since i first discovered them. Suppers Ready or PFM would soothe my ravaged brow at exam revision time. I dated the Ceramic Teachers Daughter...which at first didn't go down well! My LP collection brought him 'round. The album and it's sleeve is impeccable- no one else seems to get that sound from a strat guitar. Many memories...but not postable. "Overhead the albatross"....
  10. Nice memory Compo. Some place in Ambergate some years ago had this steak gimmick also. Out with some friends i ordered the 64oz steak with two fried eggs and a bottle of dry red. I finished it..and only paid for the wine..wasn't able to move much after though.
  11. troops at Wollaton Park.
  12. Yes they seem to have butchered Mansfield too.Change i suppose - Mansfield when i lived there seemed fairly self supportive..shoe factories and bakeries, pop factories and pits..metal Box and Mansfield Brewery and do you recall a large slaughterhouse? Unemployment was low ,the Town had indiviual shops for bread, meats, cheese and draperies...this to a large extent was wiped out in Nottm.
  13. Uriah Heep really were an excellent band..i saw them live on four occasions- lots of the audience had been drinking..not me i wanna hear David Bryon and Kerslake , Hensley and Box! This is 'their' Child in Time. July Morning...Bronze or Vertigo?
  14. In 1915 Sue there were lots of these marches in Nottm, Gedling ,Wollaton and Mansfield..to encourage enlisting. On one day near a Colliery in Mansfield..370 men volunteered. Brave men.
  15. Oz..thanks for that..nice to see my old College. Principal was Mr.Lamatrae. Used to go to the nearby cafe for hot sausage rolls..or tea and those Pennywise biscuits.Think Peveril used to attend Mansfield Market, it had 2 great record stalls..much cheaper than Syd Booths up the road.Still have many Mkt albums.
  16. The title Notty just says Hucknall Central Railway Station...no year mentioned..
  17. Sherwood Foresters marching down Radcliffe Road..according to the site i loaned this photo.. shortly after this was taken..there was a storm which wrecked the Pavillion...1915.

  22. Jonab..was this the photo mate? It is undated..maybe you can help.. Ian.
  23. Aerial shot of Rolls Royce and the aerodrome. Don't know when RR closed but do recall hearing engine testing for a good few years.
  24. Alas this isn't the Notts & Derby Regiment or the Sherwood Foresters:This photograph represents WW1 soldiers paying tribute to horses used and lost in the conflict.
  25. Samuel Morley was a very special man. Son of John- who was no stranger to good deeds himself.Morleys Factory(.Manvers St.area?) Samuel Morley funded Childrens Libraries and helped the poor. A Luddite sympathiser and Reformist. His statue( that broke!). Is in our Arboretum.
