A very sad looking Police Station at Ransom Rd.St.Anns Well Rd.junction.
  3. 1979 was an unusual year..i was leaving Mansfield that Summer. Apparently it was the most diverse year ...musically in the pop charts. I went to work at Boots...but there was a haulage strike...all the stock and orders were delivered in Taskers..16ft trailors pulled by small Custom Cab Fords. The bin strike was on- bags piled sky high outside my Brothers flat in London.Bread was short...i do recall sitting in a queue at Alan Pond Garage at the bottom of Nottm Rd.for yonks. Went to Ireland for a holiday( the Pope Mobile) was all the talk. Boots rang up ..pleading me to go back..as the lorry drivers have gone back to work...talk about overtime! 6am - to 9pm. Earned enough over a period of time to escape to Holland.Knock on Wood by Ami Stewart rings a bell...no..that was Anita Ward.

Many years ago( early 70s) Ace Records was on Mansfield Rd..just above Richer Sounds but across the way- great for sixties US garage and surf punk...he relocated to Wollaton Street. ..he was a Ted..next to Stockwoods Cafe and Scamps. He is now in West End Arcade!

    Record & Music shops

HSR..when the Stones had had enough of Decca..they were obligated to provide one more single before their contract ceased. Jagger & Richards did so..Sir Edward Lewis in Decca House played the tape...and choked on his cigar!! (Have a play on YouTube.) too rude for me to paste on NS...craftily the stones reserved Brown Sugar for when they set up their own label..marketed by Atlantic.
