  1. Your right Margie, I was 15 in November, 1958. Was in 4a at boulevard school. Missed the august leaving so had to stay on till Christmas. Who would have thought it, left school on Friday and started at the pit on following Monday.
  2. All I did was click on choose file, picked the one I wanted then you get the choice to crop then drag into this quote box. Heaven knows how I got it right.:)
  3. Ugly bugger ain't I ? This was taken up at Thoresby Hall last December when I came up to Notts with my wife Tina, to visit relatives. We try and do this every year. Cheers Jill, enjoy your day
  4. Whoopee!! managed to change my pink B to a picture. Pity I've not aged well since leaving school in 1958. Don't suppose anyone will recognise me now. Anybody on or near Denton street, off Denman street? (Anyone remember 'Kingy').

  9. That's the problem, I don't know what I'm on about. I try and look up things and find myself going back to the same page and reading the same stuff over and over again. Not sure about topics, threads etc. But I'll keep trying as its great to reminisce about my early years in Radford. Happy days!
  10. Thank you Jill Sparrow, next question, how can I put a picture on instead of a capitol B in a pink circle?
  11. How do I find people's replies to any message I have sent? I see on my screen notification ' you have two responses, but I don't know how to find 'em. I suppose that's the price for a new subscriber who's way out of touch with his home town !!
  12. It's an affectionate name for Radford boulevard secondary school. I was there 1954- 1958. B.
  13. I had a bit part as an extra in that film. All I had to do was follow Albert Finney out of the bike shed in the opening shots. Got paid more for twenty minutes than a weeks work in Raleigh. B.
  14. Sorry Cliff, I completely for got about Baldwin street. My route would have been, grant street turn right onto Baldwin street down to Ilkeston road and over to Douglas school. Apologies for my foggy memory. B. NOW I do remember it and the fence round it!

In answer to PP the trolley bus at the side of midland bank, top of pevril street was in actual fact doing a 'u' turn, having just come up alfreton road from Bentinck road traffic lights. This was a turning point for trollies not going on towards city centre, probably heading back to bulwell depot. Hope this helps, ( I worked on the buses 1962_1966). B.

Re- bobbers mill area. The nearest pit would have been Radford colliery. The river Leen ran passed the pit and passed the padding pool at the bottom of Denman St., it was pretty shallow there too! As kids we used to walk down and play in the pool ( noted for its ' bloodsucker's'). In warmer weather we used to walk by Radford pit and splash around the colliery outlet where warm water ran back into the Leen. B.
  17. When I lived in Denton street I used to walk up grant street on my way to Douglas road junior school, ( Ilkeston road). There used to be a leather factory on grant St./highurst St. corner, opposite was Pearce's ice cream factory, as kids we used to sneak in and try and pinch some pieces of dry ice or 'hot ice' as we called it. I went to Douglas road until 1954, then moving on to Radford boulevard. I can't say I remember a nursery on highurst street though, ( first nursery I ever saw was on Radford ' rec next to the bowling greens. B.
  18. Hello Jill Sparrow, nice to hear from you. Not quite sure what I'm supposed to do or how to find my way onto Nottstalgia. Left Nottingham in 1987 and moved to East Sussex. Went to boulevard school, which was only a short walk from Denton street. Will come with more info once I've figured out what I'm doing! B.
  19. The public baths were in fact on Thackeray street. I lived just round the corner on Denton street until 1957. " Happy days"
  20. I lived off denman street on Denton street until 1957. Went boulevard school and was in the same close as Barry more, joey nelson etc. Left school Christmas 1958. I don't remember any shops by the name of King, ( which is my surname). Would love to hear from anyone of that era.
