  1. You're more than welcome ma'am.
  2. Wonder what Steak and Kidney pie with spaghetti would be like? Or maybe egg, chips and Tagliatelle.
  3. Annswabey, this is where your Aunt lived. It was lower down the road from us, (it's the one with white door). We lived on the opposite side.
  4. Hello Annswabey, I'm not aware that you've asked the question before, certainly not to me. I lived on Kennington Road from about 1957 to 1965, when I got wed. That road must be close on half mile long and we lived right down the bottom, next to the railway. The name seems vaguely familiar, though I cannot ask any of my family as they've all passed away, (my older brother and two younger brothers). I remember a few names from down there so don't give up on me. I'll get back to you as soon as I can. A pity you can't recall your Aunts house number. Take care. B.
  5. I worked at Raleigh with Wally Swift.
  6. Some lovely memory joggers on that link CT, thank you.
  7. Looking at your picture rings bells, but looking at your link means absolutely nothing to me, I've never seen any of those buildings before. Going back to your picture Stuart, there used to be a cycle shop just above where the hoardings are. Not only that but Camms coaches had a little office cum shop about there too. I once tried to buy a cycle at the bike shop, put me deposit down but when I went back a week later I had turned down for HP as I was only 17. Never did get a bike until I was 68.
  8. Where was this AA garage Phil. Can't say I remember a garage opposite the White Horse, I would have passed it on me way to school. This would be up to 1958. I left that area when I got married in 1965. NB.Had a Google walk down Kennington road, another area totally changed, although did see me old house. That area was known as "Sodom", never found out why. Noticed the allotments had all gone too.
  9. Thanks CT. Just had a Google walk down Salisbury street down to Faraday road. All totally unrecognisable. Would be really confused driving round that area.
  10. Morning Dave, in reply, not quite sure whose coal yard it was. I assumed it belonged to the gasworks. It was just round the corner on Faraday rd.,on the opposite side to the White Horse, probably 50-100yards down. Once fetched a bag of coke, after staying off school and while waiting for a 39 trolley, who should pass me on his bike, but our class teacher, Jim Sullivan !! Incidentally, there was a bloody lovely chip shop next door to the 'Hoss.
  11. You're more than welcome. You're correct about the gasometer, although it was over the bridge, on Triumph road, can't remember if there were two. I do remember opposite this pub, there was a place where you could buy coke or coal. I often used to go there and buy a 28lb bag of coke when I was about 12/13, this would be about 1956. When I was a bit older and we had moved to that area from a slum clearance up Denman street, I used to drink in that pub. This would be about 1961, it was either that pub or the Midland hotel, (just over the bridge). They a lovely crowd in the "White Hoss", I us
  12. First sign of Spring for me is 'er indoors starts looking at Christmas cards and pressies for so and so !
  13. Climb up on yer roof Phil, and take your your vintage tractor with you and I'll send me helicopter to come and lift you off.
  14. Finally !!! It's come at last. I have been invited to attend, ( invitation mind you) for my Covid jab at the Meads, Uckfield, a week tomorrow. Just hope the bloody place is not flooded. So Carni, if you're watching, tell your bloke he can go ahead of me if he wants. Despite being younger. Will this mean I can go around meeting all Nottstalgians?
  15. StuartC, nice to hear from you, thank you for your message. In reply to your query, I started in 1962 as a 19 year old conductor and when I reached 21 went into the driving school. Was a driver from 1964 until 1967. After initial training at Carter Gate (Parliament street), then moved up to Bilbotough depot. Bearing in mind there were thousands on NCT, can't honestly say your mates name rings a bell, (if you'll pardon the pun). Said it many times, they were the best years of my working life.
  16. Hi Col, if you stood outside the Odeon and looked up Chapel bar towards Derby Road, you would be able to tha ABC Cannon. I would guestimate about 150 yards up on the same side, across mount street. I can remember when I was a bus driver, we used to drive down Derby Road, around Co-op island onto Chapel bar and turn right onto Mount Street at the cinema and go up to Granby Street (that became Maid Marian way eventually), So, yes, it was just above the Odeon. Cheers mate.
  17. What is the website link please Lizzie?
  18. Carni, I'm in the same boat as Chris, heart attack and diabetic. As a matter of fact, I've had my diabetic care nurse visit this afternoon. It seems I have to go onto injections, ( one a week, not insulin) because the tablets I'm are lowering my kidney function. Still think he beat me to it. Take care, both of you.x
  19. Go on, rub it in why dontcha. All the grub and I've had me name on the waiting list for ages. Still luv ya Nonna.x
  20. There's been a Haggises birth explosion since March last year Phil. The authorities are developing a vaccine against them. Be careful mate, they are aggressive little buggers.
