Ravi Shankar....R.I.P.

Recommended Posts

The sitar virtuoso, Ravi Shankar, influenced many Western musicians from the 50's onwards. I became aware of Ravi Shankar when the Rolling Stones released 'Paint It Black' in 1966. Brian Jones played sitar on this recording which, in my opinion, made it one of the best recordings of all time. The Beatles, especially George Harrison, were greatly influenced by Ravi Shankar and many fans and musicians around the world will mourn his passing at the age of 92.

:) There was a time back in the 60's when Ravi Shankar and his music influenced many pop groups around - especially 'The Beatles' - like a GOD he was to them.

The Indian influence was felt very strong back then, such as: the Maharishi, transcendental meditation and the musical instrument the sitar - as played by Ravi.

It was a good age that Ravi lived to.

PS: His daughter, Norah Jones is blessed with an extremely lovely voice. :)
