Beefsteak 305
Well for years (And I do mean years) it was "The Town Arms" I have a feeling that when it was 'done up' (Circa 1990) it had a conservatory type thing added making it look a bit 'Aviary like' I can only assume that is why it got the name. taxi ray 170
I can remember going there in the mid 80s and it was called tha Aviary then, I cant remember it being called the town arms, it is now the Riverbank, and was also the casa for a while. How many other pubs have had 3 or 4 name changes?
darkazana 1,736
I remember going to a jazz night at the Town Arms in the 70's.
Cliff Ton 10,466
Wasn't it called The Aviary because it was a place to pick up birds?

systema 13
I worked at Town Arms in the 70's on Football Saturday's when it was run by Steve and Gail Hodgkinson. It was absolutely crazy but never seen a pub empty so quick at closing time, so quick infact we could get it all cleared up and be at the match before kick off time. Cliff Ton 10,466
Seems to have been called the Town Arms for its whole life apart from the short diversion to The Aviary in the 80s/90s. And it's surprising how little the building has changed over the years. Developers haven't been allowed to ruin it too much. http://www.picturethepast.org.uk/frontend.php?action=printdetails&keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;NTGM008576&prevUrl= http://www.picturethepast.org.uk/frontend.php?action=printdetails&keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;NTGM006558&prevUrl=
