Michael Booth 7,364
My wife came across this book, which she's had since the 70's, and the contents look interesting.

BilboroughShirley 1,120
I agree, this looks like an interesting read for reflection on social history. How times change! In those days feelings about the use of fur and ivory were not as strong as they are now. Thanks Michael.
carni 10,094
The book look very interesting Michael, I bet there are some really good recipes and money saving tips in there. I always like to read about the old cosmetic treatments, far cheaper and just as effective as the modern expensive ones. A lot of the skin creams that were popular before we were born, are still on the shop shelves. What better proof. Your wife did well to keep it.
Michael Booth 7,364
Here's one for cleaning wallpaper. Cut the crusts off a 2 day old white loaf. Then gently rub the wallpaper with the loaf, using downward strokes only. Start at the top and slice off pieces of bread as it gets dirty. These grandmothers knew what they were doing....didn't they? BilboroughShirley 1,120
Yes they did. My mum said that my grandmother used to put vinegar in the water when she cleaned windows. It made them shine. I use supermarket "basics" vinegar to get lime scale off taps. Same idea. All about acid plus carbonate and a lot cheaper than Cilit Bang!

Ayupmeducks 1,730
We soak the shower head in vinegar, water is verrrryyyy hard here, straight out of limestone measures. I wipe out the new S/S kettle every couple of days to clear the lime building up, a lot easier to get off while still a "film".
