Compo 10,328
Is anyone here a member of www.forces-war-records.co.uk or similar group? I would like for find out a little about my grandfather Charles Lamb who fought during WWI. I think he was in the Royal Artillery but not sure. He was born in Arnold Nottingham in 1897. The Pianoman 1,535
He would have been the same age as my mothers father George Cropley. He was in Royal Horse Artillery
annswabey 599
I wouldn't bother with the Forces War Records site - they have very little original material. You need to search for his service records on either Ancestry or Find My Past, but bear in mind that lots were destroyed so they may not have survived
BilboroughShirley 1,120
#1 Many local libraries have Ancestry library version that allows you to look at records for free. I tried this out before we subscribed to Ancestry. The military records on Ancestry are good but as annswaby says there are some missing. Not many libraries have Find My Past. I hope this helps. broxtowelad 175
#1 Sometimes these ancestry sites offer free access to their records for 24 hrs or more so it's worth keeping a lookout for one of these sessions.
