Cliff Ton 10,505
Severns building was a wine and spirit merchants situated on Middle Pavement; in the early 70s the whole building was relocated to near the castle. Recently on a Skegness Facebook page, a photo appeared of a pub in Skegness owned by a Mr Severn. It seems that this Mr G. Severn was previously a ‘Victualler’ - basically an off-licence - on St Anns Well Road. He moved to Skeg and started a new business. As it’s a fairly unusual name, he’s probably connected to the Severn Brothers (John and James) who ran the business on Middle Pavement at the turn of the 20th century. Thanks to DAVIDW for some of the information.
philmayfield 6,222
There was also an excellent restaurant upstairs where I had the pleasure of dining. That must have been in the early 60’s.

Did it not become a Nottingham lace Shoppe later on? I have memories of seeing it when taking pupils to Nottingham Castle for educational trips.
philmayfield 6,222
Yes, it was originally a Lace Centre when it was opposite the castle.

It does look like a G on the old sign but think its a fancy C ? Also Charles Severn was licencee of the Napoleon Inn on St.Anns Well Rd up until 1903 (the same year he opened in Skegness) . It may have had an off licence but appears to be an alehouse from mid 1850s certainly up till 1949 and probably beyond .
